ColourPop Honeymoon, Over the Moon, Perilune Super Shock Cheek Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Honeymoon
ColourPop Honeymoon Super Shock Cheek ($8.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a very light, bright white with iridescent shimmer that shifted from aqua blue to violet. It was very, very glittery, and on the skin, it looked like sparse glitter that applied with little rhyme or reason. I felt like there was no real sheen or highlighting effect, just random sparkle. The texture felt smoother than it looked, and it didn’t seem like it was going to have such a translucent, barely-there base. There was definite fall out during the day, though what little “sheen” I saw lasted for eight hours.

Formula Overview
$10.00/0.15 oz. - $66.67 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have "buildable" coverage and can be applied with fingertips (which will yield "higher coverage") or a brush (for sheerer coverage). It's a cream-based product that has a subtle, "wet" feel to it but never has the thickness of a true cream-based blush.
It goes on with the smoothness of a cream formulation but diffuses and blends (without lifting up one's base) more like a powder product. The product sets to a powder finish, so the product won't slide around during the day.
On me, the wear tends to be between eight and 10 hours. Most shades have medium, buildable pigmentation with some being semi-opaque to opaque on occasion. They are typically blendable, easy to use, and long-wearing.

Over the Moon
ColourPop Over the Moon Super Shock Cheek ($8.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a very light lavender with a cooler, white base and flecks of pink and lavender sparkle. It had sheer coverage that wasn’t buildable, and it did not seem to matter whether I applied with fingertips or a brush–it was always sheer. The base seemed to be nearly translucent on the skin, and the effect was mostly glitter/sparkle with little sheen. Some of the “sheen” lasted for eight hours, but a lot of the sparkle had migrated or gotten lost during the day.

Perilune
ColourPop Perilune Super Shock Cheek ($8.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a light, greenish-gold with warm undertones and a sparkling sheen. This shade had a stronger base color, though it was still sheer to semi-sheer (even applied with fingertips). It also had less larger sparkle, so it produced more of a noticeable sheen and actually highlighted the skin. The texture was soft, lightly wet, and blendable on the skin and did not emphasize my skin’s natural texture. This shade wore well for eight hours with some sparkle that had migrated over time.

How sad! I was considering these since I missed out on the Anastasia pallette that had some more unusual highlighters 🙁 the makeup geek ones look more promising though, but pretty pricey (for me)
The MUG ones aren’t cheap for sure!
hmm. I wonder if these would perform any better if layered over another highlighter, like Over the Moon could add extra ~sparkle~ over UD Aura or Looki Goddess.
You’d get more out of them that way, I think, but the sparkle might still fall out over time.
I have all three of them and I use them patted on top of another cream highlight like Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops or Love Luxe Beauty Dramatizer Drops.
Yeah that was another thought as well, layer them over another cream. I also use a sponge to apply cream blush/highlighter and someone else said that using a damp sponge gets them better coverage and less fallout.
I’m also looking at Shiro Cosmetics new cream highlighters. I had a bad experience with them, but that’s been 2 years now so I might give them another try, since those highlighters look awesome.
Oh, this is sad! I would *love* these colors if they performed well! Colour Pop usually does so well with cheek colors, why do they have to fail when they try to do *my* colors??!!
Awww!
I held off because I was trying to decide between these and new MAC highlighters, so glad I did. Looks like I will go with MAC Beaming Blush instead. I have Monster from ColourPop –it’s a bit too light and pink for me in summer, better for me in winter, but the quality is much better than these.
I think the MAC ones are better; even Beaming Blush with its more sparkly finish still has a stronger base color, IMO.
Your reviews are spot on, as always. I bought these right when they came out and don’t really know what to do with them now. They’re just glittery. I did find that if you layer them carefully over eye shadow, they can add a pretty sparkle effect. But you will get glitter fallout all over. They were good for Halloween and that is about it.
I get such little sheen beyond the sparkle, so they end up rather subtle… but glittery, if that makes sense!
Stupid me. I bought Perilune a few weeks ago without waiting for your review. I’ve only worn it once. It looked BAAAD. Like I had put an UD Moondust on my cheeks instead of a highlight! Yuck!
Awww!! Maybe try it patted over a lipstick? 😉
Glad I didn’t by these as I was tempted by their descriptions. I bought one of the holiday highlighters so hopefully that’s more in line with what I typically experience with this formula.
I think these are the first real misses in the cheek range… I believe I’ve had a handful of more matte shades be drier/harder to blend, but the shimmery ones are usually quite nice.
These are really pretty, but too chunky to be worn alone as a highlighter. I could see myself layering a little over a better highlighter for some sparkle, though.
I think that would work better!
Your lipstick is gorgeous ❤️
Thank you!
These highlighters were marketed as being “glittery” when they were first released. When swatched I agree they are quite disappointing, but for cheeks these are gorgeous applied with a damp sponge. I didn’t notice a ton of fallout, either. I was also able to build them up with the sponge. The effect, however, will not be desirable to someone who doesn’t like an extremely in-your-face metallic highlight.
Just to clarify… I don’t have an issue with them having glitter – the issue is more that they have no real base color and the glitter migrates/falls off the cheeks (for me).
Ok, I got ya. Just trying to offer a different method for how to apply them and get what u came for (or at least a better result!) ☺️
Appreciate it! xoxo
I use a Real Techniques contour sponge to apply cream blush & highlighter, so that’s good to know!
(I’m also someone who likes really stand-out metallic and glittery highlights 🙂 )
I don’t think these are really good products, no one wants fall out on their face because of a cheek highlighter.
The glitter migration/fallout was annoying for sure!
Lovely in theory, but way too glittery. Pity really, it’s so much fun with unusual colours.
I wish they had a stronger base!
It’s funny, because I seriously considered ordering one of these when I placed my Hello Kitty collab order, but the only swatches I could find seemed really sparkly and not very pearly. I can handle a little sparkle in my highlighter, but more than that & it’s a dealbreaker!
I bought Anastasia’s Moon Glow kit earlier, and I love it (I’m actually wearing Lucky Clover right now!), and I picked up the Fair Trio from Makeup Geek’s new highlighters, which are also lovely. I’m so happy to see that I’m better off with what I have as far as “unique” highlighters go for my very fair skin! Thanks for your honest review as always, Christine! 🙂
These are definitely sparkly/glittery, so you made the right choice! 🙂
I have Perilune, and I like it! It appears to me far more green in the pan than it does in your photos. I think it’s a really neat color. It’s definitely glittery/sparkly, but I don’t mind that so much on certain days. I personally didn’t experience fallout.
Happy to hear you’re enjoying yours, Allison!
Hmmmmm… the pigments used looks more like the larger spark mica than the finer one. My favourite is still my loose Naked Cosmetic Ivory Collection stack of pigments that can be used on the skin and eyes. They are 15 each though or $10 each in the collection so it’s not as cheap as colourpop here.
Definitely some of the larger particles I’ve seen in ColourPop’s cheek products!
If it’s that very very glittery it’s an obvious pass for me.
Yeah, I’d say you have to love your glitter to get these! 🙂
Sometimes I jump on colourpop products right away without waiting for your reviews, but for some reason I decided to wait on these…even though I’m all about crazy fun colors and duochromes. SO glad I didn’t impulse buy them now!!! Thanks Christine!!
Phew! I think there are better ones out there if you want a real shift!
Your reviews are consistent with the way these looked to me on the CP website. I’m glad I passed!
Phew!
:/ I was super skeptical of these when I saw the swatches on the website. They looked like utter glitterfests. So glad to have waited for the review so I can buy the Looxi highlighters of similar colors!
Yeah, these are definitely glittery ones without much base color!
I don’t care for any whitish highlighters, don’t find them flattering on any skin tones.
I have both Over The Moon and Honeymoon, and I do find they both work best over the top of another (usually powder) highlighter, in my case Nyx Strobe of Genius. I find myself using them more for inner corner highlights and browbone on normal days, but on Halloween I caked those suckers on and looked like a glamorous sparkle-fairy!
I do REALLY wish that the duochrome was stronger with these though. :/
