ColourPop Aphrodisiac Super Shock Cheek
ColourPop Aphrodisiac Super Shock Cheek ($8.00 for 0.15 oz.) is described as a “soft beige brown in a matte finish.” It’s a muted, medium brown with subtle, warm undertones and a satiny sheen. Urban Decay Video (P, $26.00) is a powder. MAC Scone (LE, $25.00) is a powder, darker, less shimmery. Tarte Park Ave. Princess #2 (LE) is a powder, warmer. MAC Liberating (LE, $21.00) is a powder. IT Cosmetics Warm Radiance (P, $34.00) is more shimmery, powder. Surratt Beauty Grisaille (P, $32.00) is cooler-toned, powder. MAC Bronzer (LE, $30.00) is lighter, powder. MAC Aphrodite’s Shell (LE, $33.00) is warmer, powder. MAC Sculpt (P, $16.50) is darker, matte, powder. NARS Paloma Contour (P) is powder. Kevyn Aucoin Natura (P) is rosier, powder. Tom Ford Beauty Terra (P, $65.00) is lighter, warmer, powder. NARS Madly (P, $30.00) is powder, darker. MAC Harmony (P, $21.00) is more matte, darker, powder. Burberry Earthy (P, $42.00) is rosier, darker, powder. bareMinerals The Close Call (P, $22.00) is pinker, powder. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
The Super Shock Cheek formula is a cream-based product that feels more like a clay texture, as it malleable without feeling really emollient or creamy like a traditional cream blush. It has a velvety, thinner consistency that goes on the skin more like a powder, but it has the superior blendability of a cream. I like to apply it by skimming the edge of my fingertip across the skin with very light pressure, which distributes the color evenly while blending it simultaneously. I also like a duo fiber stippling brush and patting it in three or four pats across the cheek and then blending together. Despite this seeming to have a sheen, when applied, it looks mostly matte or “natural matte,” where skin looks like skin, rather than dull and flat, but it doesn’t really look shimmery or dewy. I think this could be used to contour on fairer complexions. It had semi-sheer, buildable coverage with a brush, and mostly opaque coverage with a fingertip (which is in line with what the brand says). The blush wore well for nine hours on me.

I’ve been all over cheek colours like this for the last 6 months. I’ve got Grisaille on the way and the vast majority of the comparison products in stash. I think I’m covered. I think. It’s rather like my taupe compulsion.
Oooh, I am curious to hear how Grisaille works for you.
Love, love, love! Balances the eye look out so well too! Adding it to my next CouluorPop order list. I know I have said it before. But, ColourPop blushes are quickly becoming one of my favorite blushes!
I’m so glad you’re able to work with them now, Nicole!! 🙂 I feel like there is a learning curve to application, but they’re really great once you figure out the technique that works for you!
What a pretty and natural looking shade. I have only tried Rain so far but I am really impressed so I am looking forward to getting some more colors!
Happy to hear you’re liking Rain!
I didn’t read this properly at first, and thought it was an eye shadow, haha! So when I scrolled through and saw the photo of your eye shadow I was like, where’s the brown? Then I went back and re-read it. Can I say that I love your eye shadow colors here? Just beautiful and so fun for spring/summer/anytime-because-why-not. This cheek color is very pretty on you and looks natural. Sometimes I steer away from shades like this because it looks like dirt on my face, but your review of this one makes it seem like it’d be okay for a pale girl like me! Happy Saturday to you. 🙂
LOL! 😉
Thank you so much!
OH! I like that!
Yay!
Looks very pretty on you!
Thanks, Katherine!
Oh, I really like that on you! But, I do not think this would show up well on my C4.5-5 complexion very well though, huh?
Probably not really well!
It’s light but I like it!
Yay!
Didn’t think I’d like it much but I do! The texture sounds so interesting.
And that EYE LOOK!!!
The texture is very blendable!
Hmm.. I wonder if I am fair enough to use this as a contour stage. I am N2 in the L’oreal Tru Match line. Are there any other shades in the line that would be useful for cream contouring?
I don’t think the range has a lot of contour-like shades quite yet!
