Coloured Raine Vivid Pigments & Eyeshadows Reviews & Swatches (Part 3)
Purp Smurf
Coloured Raine Purp Smurf Vivid Pigment ($6.99 for 0.06 oz.) is a bright, medium purple with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It was slightly drier in consistency with a thinner feel, which made it on the dusty side. I found it had a tendency to cling to any dryness/texture on my lid, so I had to really buff and blend it out, and even then, there was slight patchiness. This particular shade would work better over primer and possibly over a translucent powder. It had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single layer, which was buildable to full coverage with a second layer. This shade stayed on well for nine hours but left a faint stain behind, which disappear following my morning shower.

Formula Overview
$6.99/0.064 oz. - $109.22 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to be "highly pigmented, long-lasting and blendable." The majority of the shades were pigmented and long-wearing with some being very blendable and others requiring a little more effort, though they were, generally, workable and easy enough to use, particularly give the more matte finish and intense coverage/brightness. A few shades felt drier to the touch, almost grainy, which isn't uncommon in more red/pink-based shades, but this didn't seem to change the application. Most of the shades were lightly to moderately powdery, so I would recommend applying these prior to doing base makeup due to some fallout during application.
The caveat is that several shades are "not intended for use around the immediate eye area," and these shades are: Crushin', Splash, Sauce, Party Drip, Bossed Up, Cute, Vibez, Level Up, and Purp Smurf (which makes Neo Blue the only one not on the list). Most products labeled "Pigment" but look like eyeshadows include color additives that are not approved for usage on the eye in the US (see FDA's additive list here) but other regions (typically Canada and the EU) do allow these ingredients on the eye area. In this instance, the Vivid Pigments can contain Red 6 Lake, Red 7 Lake, and Red 27 Lake that are shown as a "no" for eye usage per FDA.

Vibez
Coloured Raine Vibez Vivid Pigment ($6.99 for 0.06 oz.) is a medium-dark lavender with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The color coverage was nearly opaque in a single layer, which was definitely buildable to fully opaque coverage with less than half of a layer on top. The texture was slightly dusty in the pan, but the color applied evenly and smoothly to bare skin. I didn’t have any issues diffusing and blending out this shade. On me, it wore well for eight and a half hours and didn’t seem to stain.

Bossed Up
Coloured Raine Bossed Up Vivid Pigment ($6.99 for 0.06 oz.) is a rich magenta with cool, blue undertones and a matte finish. There was almost imperceptible micro-shimmer in it (I couldn’t see it in person, only in the close-up photos I took), which seem to be included to improve blendability in some matte shades. It was richly pigmented with a soft, slightly powdery texture, but it blended out well on my skin and lasted for nine hours. This shade stained very slightly on me, but it came off after my morning cleanse the next day.

Cute
Coloured Raine Cute Vivid Pigment ($6.99 for 0.06 oz.) is a bright, medium lavender with warm, pink undertones and a matte finish. The texture was soft, somewhat powdery, but it blended out easily and applied evenly to bare skin. The eyeshadow sheered out a bit when I tried to work with it as a lid shade, but it didn’t turn patchy or darken too noticeably without primer. The color stayed on well for eight hours on me before it started to fade noticeably.

Wow! What striking colors! I think I want Vibez and maybe Cute.
Aptly named Vivid, eh?!
I’m definitely going to grab the set and matching palette, probably around Black Friday. It looks like Coloured Raine truly hit it out of the park with this set. I’m so shocked that everything rated nicely. Even that one C+ shade is a great rating considering the shade of the shadow.
Yeah, the ones that are weaker aren’t wholly surprising… and certainly not the worst I’ve seen (more workable with the right bases/tools).
What a fantastic collection of purples! Coloured Raine did a great job with these
They have!
Purples are my kryptonite. Not kidding. However, I think it’s safe to say that having UD Electric Palette, Nyx Brights, and some vivid bright purple shades within other palettes, I may only pick up Vibez? But Purp Smurf is calling me, too!
Sounds like you do have quite a view brights already!
Like you Nancy, I figured I have quite a few brights or neons colors and wouldn’t need much of these, but then Christine did that stunning purple, blue and pink eye look with them and voilà , mind changed. So as to save me a little coins though, I used her Vanity feature and saw that I did in fact have half of them in matches (over 90% and good enough for me), so now I only need four of the Vivid collection to do her look.
I’m super curious how these pigments stack up against Viseart Editorial Brights – I love their mattes. Hopefully you will be able to review it soon, because I think I need some brights in my life and these Coloured Raine pigments look spectacular.
Sorry, I have no plans to review that palette. Swatches have been in the Gallery for years, though!
Hello Christine. 🙂 I’m an avid follower of your blog and i appreciate your hard work so much…i always read your reviews before i place any orders. I hope I’m not being intrusive when i ask this question… why would you not review the Viseart palette? Is there a problem with the brand? I would totally understand if you choose not to answer for any reason. 🙂 Thank you!
Hi!
I bought it a long time ago, and I didn’t have time to review it then – but it’s been too long that I would have to repurchase it, re-photograph, re-swatch, etc. and I don’t even have enough time to keep up with the current palettes released!
I understand. 🙂 Thank you for answering. I personally love the Viseart Editorial brights. 🙂
This clinched it. I ordered the bundle. I love these bright purples.
I hope you love ’em, Rachel!
These are really sensational – excellent quality for these shades that are so hard to get right.
They have been pretty good!
Thank you for reviewing these Christine! I’m so excited to purchase the bundle knowing that they’re good!
My pleasure, Airiella!
Love Colored Raine eye shadows and I’m going to get this set eventually.
Ahh I love your eye looks! It’s rare to see matte bright colors done so well, but they look so pretty together here
Concur!!!
Such a pity that these gorgeous purples are labelled “not for use in the immediate eye area” – seems that many companies are now doing this which I think is ridiculous, seeing as this is where they will be used. Lucky I checked your formula overview Christine, otherwise I would have purchased all of them. Thank you
I kind of want these even though purple shades can make my eye look irritated in photos…. I’m just that pale. lol
Have you tried cooler purples? They may have less of that effect on a paler skin tone.
