Coloured Raine Beauty Rust Mini Eyeshadow Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
Beauty Rust
Coloured Raine Beauty Rust Mini Eyeshadow Palette ($36.00 for 0.32 oz.) is a new, limited edition palette filled with warm neutrals. There are five matte eyeshadows and one sparkling one. I saved this one for last, as I expected it to be the most foolproof, but it was a struggle, even over primer. On its own, there were issues with colors dusting off the lid and lifting away, and over primer, the powders seeped into my skin and looked dotted, patchy–like my pores were eating the eyeshadows and darkening, which resulted in a nice, polka dotted effect that was zero percent flattering.

Natural
Natural is a bright, medium orange with warm, yellow undertones and a matte finish. It had good pigmentation with a soft, powdery texture that was blendable and easy to apply to the skin but kicked up a ton of excess product in the pan. The color wore well for eight hours on me.

Formula Overview

2022 Formula: The formula is supposed to be "highly pigmented" and "blendable" with a "butterly smooth" feel. The majority of the matte eyeshadows were quite pigmented, while some of the shimmers were overly emollient, which resulted in sheerer and/or uneven coverage.
The matte eyeshadows have a bit of dryness to them, though they were pigmented and fairly blendable, but they tended to apply best over an eyeshadow primer, which ensured a better base for them to adhere to. The shimmer eyeshadows were best applied with fingertips or a flat, firm (and sometimes dampened) brush and pressed/patted into place, then lightly blended.
I did not love the two finishes paired together as the matte finish was thinner and more powdery compared to the thicker, denser shimmers, so the shimmers often "erased" the matte eyeshadows when blended out.
The formula was different than the brand's original single pan formula that they originally debuted with, and I preferred their original formula overall, though the new one is decent, just not as foolproof to work with.
Original formula review: The formula is supposed to be "highly pigmented, long-lasting, and blendable" and come in a variety of finishes. Most their eyeshadows are semi-opaque to opaque with a smooth, blendable textures that are easy to use and apply well to bare skin. The shimmers are slightly dense and creamier to the touch compared to the mattes, which aren't thin but don't have the same amount of slip. They tend to wear between eight and nine hours on me.

Dream
Dream is a medium-dark, reddish copper with warm undertones and flecks of gold and copper sparkle. It had semi-opaque pigmentation and felt more loosely packed in the pan, which resulted in sheerer coverage and some fallout. I found this easiest work with using a dampened brush, as it helped it apply more smoothly and more intensely onto the lid. On its own, it lasted for seven and a half hours with moderate fallout.

Dusk
Dusk is a dark, plummy brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. It applied a lot lighter than it appeared in the pan, and the texture was fairly powdery with a drier feel to it overall. It did not adhere well to my skin at all, whether over bare skin or over primer–it would go on unevenly and look patchy as it “melted” onto the lid, and when I tried layering it over other shades in the palette, it lifted color off the area instead. I could barely get any visible product onto the lid when I wasn’t using primer, and as far as I could tell, it was there for maybe six hours.
I was so flabbergasted by the performance of this shade that I thought maybe it was my lid, but I layered over another brand’s eyeshadow (in a similar color) where this one had failed and that one applied without problems!

That very last shade just….oh dear! If nothing else, it provided some comic relief with its polka dotted lids effect ?
Yeah, this is a pass for me.
Love polka dots, but on the eyes? Not unless on purpose… Wish youโd showed the abysmal look! This whole collection has turned me off from colored raine. They all had such potential, but were so poorly executed.
Oh, sorry, forgot to add the photos to the palette page – it’s there now.
Omg. It CREATES dots of texture, where you have none! How, well, dreadful.
Not a good one at all.
I’ll pass. I’m so over these shades.
this was the palette out of the four that i wanted the most .
dusk is so disappointing .
as beautiful as the other shades are , i just can’t justify $36 when i’ll only get use out of 5 shades .
i might wait for a sale to try this out .
It really does add a dry gross texture to the lids! Canโt say Iโve see many shadows that do that. How strange.
Ugh. Coloured Raine, you’re better than this.
Stephanie Nicole is raving so much about these palettes in her latest video, it’s almost as if hers are better quality. Especially the shade called Dusk.
Or we might have different experiences/criteria that we rate on! ๐
Probably that too!
