Cle de Peau Red Carpet & Water Lily Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Red Carpet
Cle de Peau Red Carpet Lipstick ($65.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a vibrant, medium-dark pinky red with cool, blue undertones and a soft shine. It had good pigmentation, though it did not have full coverage and was not buildable to full coverage. The consistency was incredibly smooth, silky, and creamy without being heavy or thick–it looked almost like a gloss with just how smooth it made my lips appear. You can noticeably see the difference between the texture of my lips with this shade on and Water Lily (below), which goes to show just how effective the formula can be. It wore well for five and a half hours,, left a slight stain behind, and was moisturizing.
The formula is supposed to have “ultra-vibrant, luminous HD color and rich lasting moisturie” that has a “silk, semi-matte finish lasting for 8 hours.” Under “Key Benefits,” they repeat that it has a “long-lasting finish for up to 8 hours” and “delivers lasting moisture for up to 4 hours” (I swear, that seems like it’s switched–it would really make more sense for it to last for four hours but keep lips hydrated for longer than the color itself lasted). The consistency was lightweight, creamy with a more emollient feel as it applied that had a lightly tacky feel afterward. Color coverage varied from medium and buildable to mostly opaque with light to moderate shine. Some shades applied more smoothly across the lips and made my lips appear smoother and plumper but not all shades did so. The wear was four to six ours with some of the deeper, richer shades (like reds) wearing longer. I found the formula very hydrating and comfortable to wear. I did not notice any taste but they had a subtle, rosy scent.

Water Lily
Cle de Peau Water Lily Lipstick ($65.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a muted, medium pink with subtle, warm undertones and a luminous finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation with a soft, creamy consistency that was lightweight and comfortable to apply and to wear. The color applied evenly, but I noticed some of it gathered in my deeper lip lines, though it did not worsen as I wore the lipstick. On me, it stayed on well for four and a half hours and was very moisturizing.

For now, I’m saying no to $ 65 lipsticks, but never say never. I’m certainly not getting any younger, and if Red Carpet is taking 10 years off my lips, then it’s a bargain compared to Botox!
If all the lipsticks made my lips look as smooth as Red Carpet, I’d be more willing to part with the money, too!
$65 for a tube of lipstick is robbery. As much as I love lipstick—and I do obsess over it—I can’t imagine paying that much money to put a color on my lips that lasts for five hours…or even twice that. I can buy almost four tubes of MAC lipstick for that price. Almost 11 ColourPop Ultra Satin lipsticks (which, coincidentally, is how many I own).
Totally understand — different strokes for different folks!
They’re both beautiful colors! Red Carpet is especially pretty. I really like the hint of pink!
I like the pink tone to it, too!
Would you care to comment on the bullet tip design?
I have nothing of value to say – it applied as well as any other lipstick shape has for me!
It’s such a radical departure from the angular, chiseled one.
Seems like such a promising pick – I’ve never tried anything from Cle de Peau, but this lipstick looks like a good starting place!
Their lip products are usually very hydrating 🙂
Sixty-five dollars for a lipstick? For real? Really? Both shades look very nice on you but for $65.00 a pop, I would sure hope so! I can’t see my self ever spending $65.00 on one lipstick, not ever. I’ve spent that and more on a skin-care product but lipstick? I don’t think so.
Luckily, there are plenty of dupes listed at other price points if this isn’t something you’d buy! 🙂
Off topic. OMG, IT’S ON! Viseart less than 241 or whatever special at muse.pro. TY TY TY. Dark mattes and Paris nudes, baby! I knew when to expect it, bec YOU MADE ME have an internal beauty planning calendar (lol) and they did it again. YAY, yay. At least we know what to expect, unlike the recent debacle.
Enjoy, KJH! 🙂
Gorgeous but the price!!!!
So expensive and a B- – hmmmm.
OMG Christine!! I think i’m gonna cave in and purchase Red Carpet. Your review sealed the deal for me. I do own Mac’s Nice to Meet You but I like that it’s darker and more pinky. I don’t mind spending on quality. I think Tom Ford is probably the most expensive lipsticks in my arsenal. This is $10 more and you get a regular sized lipstick unlike TF half pint sticks. I hope the color works for me. It pained my heart to have to return Nars Starwomen yesterday? i loved the color to look at but man when I applied it ohhh!!! It looked like it had more of an orange base than blue on me. I can always rock a dark blue based red!!! I’m addicted to blue base reds, any hue pinks and vampy blood reds. Well…thanks again.
After chatting last night on Discord I grabbed Water Lily today and clocked in at about 4 hours +/- 15 mins or so and when it wore off, it did so nicely. Four hours is acceptable for me regardless of the wear claims; I’m always drinking coffee or water throughout the day so I only expect a few hours of wear from a lipstick like this. I haven’t worn Red Carpet or China Doll yet; I don’t usually rock a red lip working from home, lol! I do enjoy Water Lily and love Bamboo however!
Red Carpet magic ride…oh my! I knew I’d fall for this one, dang it! I’m not keen on forking over that amount of dough, however. I didn’t mind getting a TF Lipstick last winter because I used my Rouge coupon for that. Don’t believe this is sold at Sephora. *Yet* ?
Great info shared, thanks for sharing…..
Not asking about dupes for the colors- as I see there are plenty. But is there a dupe for the gel-like look this lipstick has that isn’t a gloss? It seems really unique and lovely! Thank you! :]
Cle de Peau is so beautiful. I want to buy their products and display them on a marble vanity! These lipsticks stole my heart, they look so lovely. I would have to buy one to use and one to display.
Someday, I’ll buy something from them. The price point is the only set back.
Man, Red Carpet is almost worth the price. The finish and the plumping are certainly noticeable. Not like in a surgery way, but in best lip day ever way.
Hi Christine, I thought Red Carpet and Water Lily are the two limited edition shades, but you have listed them as permanent.
I’m just an idiot and put them in the system wrong – will fix now!
Water Lily is very pretty!
These have a really pretty finish.
