I know what you’re thinking, “But Temptalia, why would you buy a $120 body powder?” And I’d have no real answer for you other than I was really curious to see if it was good, bad, or somewhere in-between. I remain curious, as well, about what might be in it that makes it inappropriate as a cheek highlighter (the box does say to avoid direct contact with eyes, but it isn’t unusual for cheek colors/highlighters to be safe for cheeks but not eyes!). It is luminous and high-shine on the skin, whether body or cheeks, but I don’t think it veers into disco ball territory where the shimmer emphasizes the skin’s natural texture. There are noticeable sparkly bits here and there, but it is the least glittery body powder I’ve come across–not that I’ve tried more than a dozen over the years! The powder is soft, smooth, and incredibly finely-milled, while it is blendable and easily diffused for sheerer or heavier shimmer coverage. The powder has a floral scent, which I didn’t notice often when wearing it, so it didn’t seem as heavy-handed as some fragranced powders can be. The powder lasted for eight hours with minor migration when I wore it on my neck/shoulders, but I didn’t notice migration when I tried it on cheeks.

It looks beautiful, but at that price, I’d dupe.
I hear you!
Yowch~ I think I’d be grabbing all the powder highlights I have which I do not use that much and mixing them together to wear as body shimmer instead. Yeah, that could work. This is a product you have to totally love and it is just not doing it for me personally.
That’s actually a really good idea 🙂
The compact is absolutely gorgeous! It looks small for a body powder, those are typically bigger than face compacts, but it’s truly beautiful. As for asking why you’d spend that much money on body powder, well, if you really want it and you can buy it without getting into debt, why not? It’s a personal choice!
I was surprised it wasn’t bigger, and oddly enough, the luminizer pans are actually larger (0.35 oz.).
NO. It’s so pretty!
That’s how they get you!
I would have expected it to be bigger for being a body powder…
I agree!
The casing for this powder is beautiful–it certainly exudes luxury! I have been tempted by this product for a few weeks now, even though I never wear body luminizers. I suppose it’s because I’m curious as well why Cle de Peau would release one for the body but not the face this holiday season and I like the grand ball theme overall. It’s certainly pretty to look at, and it swatches and applies nicely on you, but that price has me hesitating. I’ll have to find it in stores to see if it’s really worth the price tag.
I had the same thoughts, Christina! I’m surprised they didn’t make this multi-tasking.
Packaging and design is gorgeous, but I definitely could not justify the price!
Also, What nail polish are you wearing in the last picture?
Chanel Rouge Noir
Why does this have to be so expensive? I really want it, but I will not pay that much.
It is pricey!
Damn this is pretty! But then I saw the price … 🙁 🙁
Aww!
Not that I’m going to buy this ( ye gads, $120! ), but now I am feeling a little inspired to perhaps apply a little of my WnW Reserve Your Cabana on my upper chest area! I mean, hey, if it lightens and brightens my face, it may make my uneven skintone on my upper chest look more uniform without staining my clothing mercilessly!
Worth a try 🙂
Well the packaging is an absolute delight and the embossing is both weird and awesome–but other than that I’m kind of confused by this product overall. Would this really be any different than taking any old highlighting powder on a fluffy brush?
Not really – I mean, not ANY highlighting powder, since they come in all shades and the like, but if you had a similarly-hued product, you could use it on the body.
I should start putting highlighter on my body to get some more use out of the dozen that I own. This one is actually really pretty, but I have some $6 ones lying around that don’t get enough attention and would be perfect for this.
There’s a good idea!
This is really pretty and if it were peremanent, I would get it. I have been eyeing this and now that you have given it the thumbs up,Im going to put it on my wish list. I probably won’t be able to buy it until I’ve finished buying gifts- so close to Christmas. May be gone & I’m ok with that. I have delicate pink. But, I would love to have a beautiful body powder because I don’t have one. It would be a nice Chritmas gift to myself! :)Hope I can get this!
Fingers crossed it’s still around 😀
Silly me….I clicked on “love this” and THEN I looked at the PRICE (probably add another 20 or 30 bucks for Canada)….and THEN I saw that this is a body powder so I clicked the “broken heart” (which really represented how I felt). This is probably lovely for a beautiful shimmer for the shoulders, decolletage, etc. but I would probably resort to using one of the several highlighters I own and don’t use much on my face because they’re glittery. If someone GAVE this to me, I would be smiling (while doubting their sanity) but when I think of how much makeup I could get for this price, I would pass on it.
Oh golly – I never realized, til seeing your photo of the back of the box, that Cle de Peau was own by Shiseido!
Don’t worry, I questioned my sanity fully when purchasing this one! But I was soooo curious.
Oh, it’s sooo pretty. And totally fitting for a masquerade!
It is!
It looks gorgeous! Just wondering if you have any of the new Cle de peau blush duo for review soon? I’m so interested in the shade Cherry Blossom but have not seen very many swatches. Blushes tend to oxidize on my skin so I gravitate to coolest pinks possible.
No, sorry, I didn’t buy that.
“But Temptalia, why would you buy a $120 body powder?” Nailed it 🙂 Beautiful imprint and shade though! I’m glad you review things like this
I guess if you were wearing a ball gown or something like that, you might use the product, but at that price – ah no. Besides, I really don’t go to balls…..
I sort of love it. I’ll not buy it, as I rarely go to parties wearing sleveless dresses. I mean I rarely go to any parties, if I did, sleveless is a good pick.
I absolutely love the package. butifully decadent, makes me thinl of the great moviestars during the classic golden Hollywood eras. (1920’s to mid 1950’s)
It’s on the expensive side, but I think it’d last a long time.
Going to watch Rita Hayworth in Gilda now. I know it’s in black and white, but I can easily imagine Gilda using a body powder.
Way too much money but it’s stunning!
How does it compare to Guerlain Meteorites on body? I mean, this must be a bit shimmery compared to Guerlain, but the longetivity on Neck and Shoulders. 🙂 It’s so expensive that you would just wanna look at the counter and be happy not to be broke 😀
That packaging……………………………………………………………
is perfection.
I can see why someone would have to have this for the packaging alone. I wish the brands I consider “attainable” would/could release packaging like this, I’d be all over it.
I’m a total sucker for pretty packaging and I bought the Collection Bal Masque makeup coffret, but I didn’t like the feel of the packaging very much. It feels so plasticky and less luxurious than it looks. Therefore I skipped this powder.
I love CdP and I love the outside of this compact. However the powder itself looks like someone took the luminous skin of several makeup artists and stitched them all together into one franken-monster-powder. I can’t think of the last time I even cared what was embossed on a powder, but this one just looks hilarious to me. That compact though, wow.
Uh, I’m not seeing anything special here that would justify the $120 price tag. At that price, the powder would have to make look 10 lbs skinnier and erase about 10 years from my skin. Or for $120, at least make it “body” sized and put it in a giant globe with snowflakes and a fancy body puff, like Guerlain did with their pearls.
Too much money and too many dupes. No thanks.
It looks absolutely gorgeous, but that price tag…..
Random, but you have the best nails, Christine. I am envious!
Very luminous! But hoooooooly cow, the price tag is insane! I don’t think I’d ever buy this for myself. And if someone was crazy enough to gift me this I’d probably be mad at them for spending so much money on it, lol.
