Cle de Peau #129 Extra Silky Lipstick

Cle de Peau #129 Extra Silky Lipstick ($52.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a soft, yellow-toned pink with very fine pale peach-gold micro-shimmer and a glossy sheen. It’s such a soft color, but the color payoff is almost opaque–you can just barely see the shadow of my lip freckle. Dior Pinky Mauve is a bit darker. Estee Lauder Night Bloom is similar but pinker. Maybelline Warm Me Up is a bit darker and grayer. MAC Angel is pinker and has a creamier look. Urban Decay Naked is a darker pinker.

I’m a big fan of the Extra Silky Lipstick range; it’s lightweight, hydrating, and feels and looks incredible on. With lighter shades like #129, it wears for around four hours, but I have had longer wear (more like six or so) with some of the darker shades–about average for lipsticks for me. This formula is very, very emollient and creamy, so I recommend applying less than you think you need, because otherwise you’ll overapply. It doesn’t look bad, but you’ll waste product and at this price point (and for the quantity you get–about 30% less than the average lipstick), you don’t want to waste any! These are also scent- and taste-free from my experience.

$52 for a lipstick? People seriously pay $52 for a lipstick (that’s 30% smaller than comparative brands?!)? Good lord.

Look, I spend a lot of money on a lot of stupid things (heck, I felt stupid as all get out buying my Dior Angelique lipstick at $32, but I love it), but good gravy. . . $52 for one lipstick? No way, regardless of how nice it may be.

Keep in mind that this formula/packaging always comes in at less – like Dior, Milani, etc. – for instance, Cle de Peau’s regular lipsticks are 0.12 or 0.14 oz., which is larger than a regular lipstick. Nothing wrong with people spending their own money on what makes them happy 🙂

That looks gorgeous! Kind of makes your lips look flawless!
Very pricey though, might have to get MAC Angel or Urban Decay Naked as a cheaper alternative 🙂 thanks for this! x

Very pretty! I’ve not tried the Extra Silky range because I assumed that they would be light on colour. Good to know that that isn’t necessarily the case. I do love the Extra Rich range- which is another thing I bought because of your blog posts, to go back to your question from the other day 🙂

OH-I-LOVE-IT-SO-MUCH-AND-I-WILL-GRAB-IT-AS-SOON-AS-POSSIBLE !!

Though I’m one of CDP Extra Silky fan, I gotta confess that I don’t feel them hydrating on me. Shocking enough!! But most of balm-like or gel based lipsticks tends to be drying on my lips. Very weird. In the opposite, creamier formulas keep my lips soft such as CDP Extra Rich and Guerlain Rouge G.

Anyway, they rock! #106 and #124 are my go-to shades of all time.

Ty for sharing <3

I have super dry lips year-round, and I’m always looking for moisturizing lipsticks…but the most moisturizing ones are always so expensive 🙁 I honestly don’t know if I could spend that much money on a lipstick that I might end up losing somewhere, haha!
The colour is super flattering on you though, Christine!

I only lose products in my house, so eventually they are found, thankfully! I’ve bought a few from Cle de Peau, and I haven’t regretted any – but I think it’s important that it’s exactly the right fit, both in terms of formula and color.

Pretty as that shade is, there is no way I would ever pay $52 for a lipstick. Plus, it has less product than the average lipstick? That’s a little shocking to me. You’d think the formula contained gold or something. :/

Christine Avatar

Sometimes it’s about the quality of a product, not just the quantity 🙂 This type of lipstick (in this packaging) contains about this much – Dior, for example, has Serum du Rouge, which is similar, and also contains less lipstick than their other lipstick ranges. MAC had Slimshines, another comparable formula, and those also had significantly less product than a full-sized lipstick.

Wow! That color looks amazing on you! 🙂 I’m really impressed with the opacity but the luminosity at the same time. It doesn’t look opaque swatched on your arm but it looks fatastic on lips. I’m very tempted and I rarely flinch at prices but wowza, 52 huh? I might just have to check this out anyway! Thanks for the swatch!

Christine Avatar

Yep – definitely one of the pricier lipsticks! I think lipsticks at this price point are worth it IF the formula delivers AND the color is just perfect for you. Like it’s a shade you’ll go back to time and again. I know that many of us, as beauty enthusiasts, have dozens of lipsticks, but there are always a few we LOVE.

katherine Avatar

Absolutely Christine, I have at least 100 hundred lipsticks and glosses—if not more. And I probably only reach for 2 possibly 3 of them at any given time. I really need to pare down my collection and start buying things I will actually wear more than just once.

Michelle Avatar

It looks like such a natural color on you! And now I have yet another reason to try Urban Decay Naked lipstick -_- I miss living near makeup stores.

Oh, I love this formulation so much, but I haven’t yet found a good colour for me. I can definitely vouch for the pigmentation, even on my pigmented lips, these are opaque and richly coloured, it’s just that this particular shade is a light colour!

The Extra Rich lipsticks are totally amazing. I have R1 and it’s the perfect retro-Bollywood colour on me. A great colour for Indian brides, especially with golden bronze smokey eyes!

Veronica Avatar

I like how subtle yet flattering the color is. The price is a little more than I can justify for how often I get to wear makeup, but it looks great on you! 🙂

Oh god I need it….I rarely say that because I’m good at separating ‘need-to-haves’ with ‘nice-to-haves’ but my jaw dropped! How long do you think a tube would last somebody who uses this on occasion? Btw, it made your lips look very plump!

shelley Avatar

There is no way that I would spend $52 on a tube of lipstick. That is two skincare products for me and I value quality skincare products over cosmetics any day. There are so many more affordable lipsticks out there that are just as good in quality.

Jessica Avatar

I have to say that looks like it could be an HG formula for me — luminous and seemingly sheer while actually providing opaque coverage. I’d love to check out the available color options and find one that’s as right for my coloring as that is on you. The price is CRAZYHIGH, but I would splurge (as I did on the Gloss d’Armani) if I could have it as a go-to daily lipstick that really delivers.

I took a look at these on the net, searching for one that delivers a berry/brown color. 113 was my match but had been discontinued. Fortunately, I found one brand new 113 for sale on Amazon and snagged it for $29. I love highly moisturizing lipsticks that aren’t overly saturated with color. This one looks great on you, Christine — much prettier on your lips than in the tube.

Shall I add this to the list of items I’ve been compelled to purchase after reading your reviews? 😎

SheDaisy Avatar

I can finally join the Clé de Peau love club! I got this product in this shade (coincidence because it was the cheapest Clé de Peau lip product on Amazon) for just less than $27 (plus shipping)!!! I don’t know why it was so cheap, but the packaging was gorgeous and legit – even the application is spot-on and the little window to view how much product is left – genius! I’ve never felt any product that was so smooth and hydrating, yet had a good color payoff! I would say it’s like a lip butter, all grown-up. Anyway, you raved so much, and now I “get” it. Everything about this product is pure luxury and lip perfection! Thanks!
