Charlotte Tilbury The Huntress + Amber Moon Nocturnal Cat Eyes to Hypnotise Duo Review, Photos, Swatches
Charlotte Tilbury The Huntress + Amber Moon Nocturnal Cat Eyes to Hypnotise
Charlotte Tilbury The Huntress + Amber Moon Nocturnal Cat Eyes to Hypnotise ($39.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a duo that features a powder eyeshadow and a miniature-sized pencil eyeliner. This is one of four duos available (I will review the others).
The Huntress is described as a “smoky golden-bronze.” It’s a smoky, gray-ish taupe with hints of warmer brown in its undertone paired with fine gold shimmer and a metallic sheen. The formula is supposed to have rich color payoff with a “metallic effect.” It had good pigmentation, and the texture was fairly smooth, but there was a dryness there that made it harder to apply evenly to bare skin. If I used it damp, it applied just fine, but dry, it didn’t look quite right (and I didn’t see anything on Charlotte Tilbury’s website about using these damp). The color started to crease and breakdown after seven hours. ColourPop Titus (LE, $4.50) is less shimmery (95% similar). Stila Substance (PiP, ) is warmer (95% similar). Bobbi Brown Serpentine (LE, $38.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Spring 2015 (LE, $45.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Inglot #444 (P, $7.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). Dose of Colors Out and About (PiP, ) is less shimmery, warmer (90% similar). Milani Bella Charcoal (11) (P, $4.49) is darker, cooler (90% similar). Sydney Grace Frosted Morning (P, $6.25) is darker, warmer (90% similar). MAC Full Orbit #3 (LE, $21.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Urban Decay Robbery (LE, $19.00) is lighter (90% similar). Auric Ego (Cream) (PiP, ) is less shimmery, cooler (85% similar). Natasha Denona Glam (329M) (PiP, $29.00) is lighter, cooler (85% similar). Charlotte Tilbury On the Prowl (LE, ) is darker, cooler (85% similar). Dior Capital of Light #1 (LE, ) is darker, warmer (85% similar). MAC Full Orbit #4 (LE, $21.00) is lighter (85% similar). Urban Decay Pistol (DC, $19.00) is lighter (85% similar). Urban Decay Derailed (LE, $19.00) is lighter, warmer (80% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Eleganza (LE, ) is less shimmery, darker, cooler (85% similar). MAC A Glimmer of Gold #4 (PiP, $21.00) is warmer (85% similar). Dior Blazing Gold #5 (LE, ) is darker, cooler (80% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. Amber Moon is described as a “rich amber.” It’s a dark, chocolate bronze with fine gold pearl. The formula is supposed to be “pigment-rich,” “glide on easily,” with a “long-lasting finish.” It had semi-opaque pigmentation in single pass, and it was buildable to mostly opaque coverage. The texture was moderately creamy and glided on without tugging on the lash line. It lasted for nine hours on me before noticeably thinning.
MAC Broque (P, $17.00) is lighter (95% similar). Burberry Midnight Brown (P, $27.00) is darker, cooler (95% similar). MAC Our Secret (P, $16.00) is lighter (95% similar). Urban Decay Bourbon (P, $22.00) is less shimmery, darker (95% similar). Sephora Cocoa (DC, $10.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). MAC Groundbreaker (P, $17.00) is lighter (90% similar). MAC Lord It Up (P, $15.00) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). Tarina Tarantino Locket Book (DC, $15.00) is less shimmery, warmer (90% similar). Urban Decay Hustle (P, $22.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). ColourPop Overboard (P, $7.00) is more shimmery, lighter (85% similar). Fenty Beauty Space Cookie (P, $22.00) is less shimmery, darker, cooler (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

I quite like the Huntress eyeshadow, I hope CT sells it separately soon. But, I’ll be getting the Sephora dupe for Amber Moon
I’d love to see them sold separately!
ohhh pretty!
They are!
Um, what the heck? This eyeshadow looks sooo bronzey and stunning in the PAN, but becomes a weird charcoal brown on the SKIN. Wow, what a letdown, Charlotte Tilbury!
The eyeliner, on the other hand, is truly beautiful! But being that I already have Sephora Contour pencil in Cocoa, easy pass on this duo. I really don’t understand that eyeshadow. Just bizarre.
It’s a really complex shade, I think!
If you look at CT’s you-tube video on The Huntress, it looks like a very complex color- a gorgeous blackened bronze with gold shimmers, think it’s hard to capture in still photos. Or at least that’s what I’m hoping it’s going to look like
That may well be it; some shades are just about impossible to capture their full dimension and or richness in still pics! That does help me make sense of it.
She says they used a particular pigment that reflects “pure black”.
I do not have this shade, but the purple and gunmetal ones. They have exactly this promised, slightly weird black undertone.
Also, what I have not tried: This is supposed to really shine in club lighting (at least as demonstrated in her Youtube videos). I hope it does!
Oh I have had my eyes on these. I will patiently await the black one! 🙂
Hopefully it does well!
Lovely colors! So easy and wearable for any occasion!
Very true!
The eyeshadow is tiny, but I liked it and the liner was nice.
It’s actually about normal for a regular eyeshadow 🙂
I own this and I like it, but I wish the bronze which we see in the pan would transfer the same onto the eye! On me it just looks like a deep grey unless you look reallllly close!
Isn’t it strange how different is swatches?
The whole look is really pretty. But, at this price point, I need an “A” performing product. Are the shadows not sold without the liner for less $
I hear you, Nicole! As far as I know, they’re only sold as sets!
That looks beautiful!
Glad you liked the set!
Oh thanks SO much for reviewing!! Wow, it looks absolutely stunning on your eyes –these colors were made for you! I must’ve watched Charlotte’s video 3x, as the color reminded me of something, and no wonder, I have Tom Ford Spring but it is darker and less shimmery. If I use primer, I think this will apply more evenly and last longer. This was my fave color in the collection, but trying to decide between this and On the Prowl (aubergine)
Primer might help! I think using it damp helps the most, though.
Thanks for the review, Christine. I have this one and On the Prowl. I’m on the fence about whether I want to keep them (I’ve tried this one but not the other yet). The colors are gorgeous, but I experienced some fallout, especially in my eyes. I wear contacts, and that really hurts! I’m going to try again with a primer. I can’t get primers to work for me usually, but I’ll give it a try. Looking forward to the other reviews.
No problem! Have you tried using a damp brush or maybe a slightly tacky base?
I have never tried applying eyeshadow with a damp brush, to tell the truth. Must expand my horizons!
When I apply eyeshadow over primer, it gets patchy…what am I doing wrong?
Possibly…
1.) too much primer
2.) unevenly applied primer
3.) wrong primer for your skin type
You could try:
1.) patting a translucent powder or flesh-toned (whatever your skin tone) powder over the primer first, then the rest of your eyeshadows
2.) switching primers
3.) layering two primers!
Pteetsa, do you find Charlotte Tilbury The Huntress too similar to On the Prowl in color? I was eyeing both but not sure which one(s) to get
Drooling over Huntress, but not with that rating (for the price). Even if it’s $39 for the set, I’d want the shadow to be pretty stellar. Do you think this would work well over primer, or do you think application would still suffer?
Primer helps, but I found damp application to be the most helpful.
It’s pretty but it’s too warm for me for sure.
Bummer!
I can’t wait to see the other 2 sets in this line. This one looks so lovely. It’s probably a very good thing that Charlotte Tilbury isn’t available around me and that I have dupes. What I find so strange is that this looks very bronzey brown and yet it swatches and so many of its dupes are more taupey-grey.
oops, make that the remaining THREE sets!
Me too, Mariella! I was like, “Are these right??” and kept going back to the swatches/photos and looking at it in person.
I know! In the pan, it looks so much like Inglot 422 and I thought “Oh, it must be an error listing 444 as a dupe” – THEN I saw the swatches! Oh well….I have 444, Substance and several others so I’m okay that I can’t get CT here. But I can’t wait to see your reviews for the other 3 sets.
I found it extremely perplexing myself, Mariella. If it had come out the shade in the pan and had had an A rating, I’d have fallen in love with it, for certain! But I already have UD Pistol and Derailed.
Kinda sad the shadow wasn’t more bronzey-amber like the liner BUT it is nice none-the less.
I kept doing a double-take at the swatches/photos and double-checking to make sure I had it right, because it’s way less warm-toned!
this color is beautiful on you
Thank you!
Absolutely beautiful eye look. Can’t wait to see the On the Prowl review.
Thanks, Dana!
Just love The Huntress colour – that grayish taupe is one of my favourites. But I do have Derailed from Vice 2, which is a great dupe for it. It was disappointing that it was hard to use. I wish the rating was better.
Cannot wait to see the rest.
It is a very interesting color – definitely more complex!
I’m so glad you review these sets. I’ve been looking at this one and the more amethyst one. After reading this review I’ll not buy this set, I hope the others will be better. I do like the liner, not so fond of the eyeshadow, though.
Here’s hoping! 🙂
The swatch of The Huntress is very pretty! You didn’t mention the swatch photographed was damp, so I’m assuming it was dry. If so, that’s better pigmentation than I was expecting. I haven’t purchased any products from the Tilbury line, but I’m slightly tempted by this shadow.
I only swatched dry, since they didn’t actually mention damp application (I checked prior to photographing!) 🙂
Bring it~ ❤
Haha!
These look really pretty!!
They do!
Yay! Thank you so much for reviewing these, Christine! I was hoping you would. I’m so tempted to get the one for blue eyes (Silver Leopard, I think), but I want to make sure it’s a worthwhile investment. If it is I could really see myself using it all the time.
No problem, Nicole!
Have a you a chance to review the one for green eyes? Thankx!!!!
They’re all reviewed now!
