Star Aura

Charlotte Tilbury Star Aura Eyeshadow Quad ($53.00 for 0.18 oz.) is a new, limited edition warm-toned neutral quad that features a wet/dry eyeshadow formula. It had more of a gel-powder hybrid feel to me, which I find is quite consistent between various brands and excels at having a smoother, more seamless finish on skin and no powderiness.

The textures are firmer, a bit denser, though not stiff as they remained blendable and easy to work with. They do not have to be used with a dampened brush to apply evenly or to have coverage, so the formula was versatile, though I felt like the color story could have used a little more contrast.

The weight of the palette is half the size of past quad releases, though the gel-powder kind of formulas tend to take up similar volume (so the quad itself/pans appear the same size and depth) as traditional pressed shadows but weigh less, so it wasn’t a total surprise.

Star Aura (Prime)

Star Aura (Prime) is a brighter, medium peachy gold with strong, warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. The texture was slightly softer compared to other shades in the quad, though it was still on the smoother, denser, and firmer side (so no powderiness at all) but had enough give to pick up just fine with a dry brush using heavy-medium pressure. The eyeshadow had rich pigmentation applied dry as well as with a dampened brush with the latter giving me a more intense finish. It lasted well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Star Aura (Enhance)

Star Aura (Enhance) is a light, peachy coral with moderate, warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had opaque color payoff that applied evenly to bare skin regardless of whether it was applied with a dry or dampened brush. The texture was smooth to the touch, slightly firmer and denser but not thick or stiff so it picked up readily with a brush. It stayed on well for eight hours before showing signs of fading.

Ingredients

MICA, CETEARYL ETHYLHEXANOATE, HDI/TRIMETHYLOL HEXYLLACTONE CROSSPOLYMER, GLYCERIN, SQUALANE, OCTYLDODECYL STEAROYL STEARATE, POLYSORBATE 20, CAPRYLYL GLYCOL, ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, 1,2-HEXANEDIOL, PENTAERYTHRITYL TETRA-DI-t-BUTYL HYDROXYHYDROCINNAMATE, CHONDRUS CRISPUS (CARRAGEENAN), XANTHAN GUM, SILICA, DICALCIUM PHOSPHATE, SYNTHETIC FLUORPHLOGOPITE, [+/- TITANIUM DIOXIDE (CI 77891), IRON OXIDES (CI 77491)].

Star Aura (Define)

Star Aura (Define) is a light-medium brown with moderate, warm undertones and finer, golden pearl woven throughout. The texture was slightly firmer and denser, though not stiff, as it remained blendable and picked up well with a dry brush. It had opaque pigmentation applied dry as well as wet with the latter application method yielding slightly darker and more metallic color. It wore nicely for eight hours before fading visibly.

Star Aura (Smoke)

Star Aura (Smoke) is a light-medium brown with warmer, more orange undertones and a metallic sheen. It had nearly opaque color payoff applied dry and full coverage applied with a dampened brush. The eyeshadow had a smooth, moderately dense feel that was slightly firmer but not powdery at all, so it blended out beautifully and had no fallout. It lasted well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

I absolutely do not need this, probably would barely wear it, probably would not even like it on my own eyes, and yet I am ENTRANCED by these shades. something about the texture and finish of these shadows is so compelling to me and I have no idea why! it’s just so pretty!

Hmmm – I see what you mean Christine – all four shades do work well together, but perhaps a contrasting shade would have lifted the quad a little more – say a navy blue? Navy blue and peachy shades are heavenly together.
I thought I would like this one more than I do – I think the pinky shade in #2 doesn’t work for me and in a quad – all shades have to work for you.
But it is beautiful and the formula and finish are lovely.
