Chanel Tisse Smoky (246) Eyeshadow Quad
Chanel Tisse Smoky (246) Eyeshadow Quad ($61.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a set of shades to give you a classic, gray smoky eye. It’s by no means particularly unique, but if you tend to go for a softer, smoky eye in shades of gray, you may appreciate having them altogether. I prefer using this one damp, even though Chanel doesn’t seem to call out this formula as a wet/dry one (but it has that baked-like texture that lends itself well to the dual application), but that being said, this one isn’t “pigment-rich” for most shades when used dry.
Tisse Smoky #1 is a medium, silvery gray with a frosted finish and neutral-to-cool undertones. The texture was soft, silky, and very smooth to work with, though it seemed a little prone to sheering out on the lid. It lasted for seven and a half hours before fading. This shade wore for eight hours before fading. NYX Frostbite (P, $6.00) is brighter (95% similar). MAC Pearl (LE, $32.50) is more shimmery (95% similar). So beautiful. I don’t own any Chanel quads but if I did this would be the one I would buy.
Ooh, nice!
As soon as I saw it was a Chanel quad, I said, “uh oh, what if Christine likes it?” This month is getting to be an expensive month for cosmetics for me!
Awww!
I’m usually not into grays very much, but these are a lot prettier on the skin than in the pan. More silvery. I like it, so I’ll be checking out the dupes.
Hope you can find good dupes 🙂
I ordered this last week-still waiting. I do prefer a not too intense smoky look and I think base could amp it up. I really love this look you did- a nice soft, smoky eye. If using it damp, would that ruin the shadow if it’s not meant to be used that way?
Just an aside. I think I am acquiring an addiction to Chanel quads. I caught a glimpse of Tisse Gabrielle in-store over the weekend. My next acquisition. So very pretty!
I haven’t had any issues using these damp! I used almost all of the original releases that way inadvertently, and they are just fine 🙂
Ok,I will certainly try it out that way. I can’t wait until mine arrives! Thanks for the extra tip!:)
Nicole, I think you mentioned you got a free sample of the Bobbi Brown Cream Shadow Stick in Shadow from Sephora rewards? It’s a matte medium gray. Tisse Smoky layers beautifully over that — I had a perfect smoky eye in about 5 minutes with minimal fuss, and the look lasted all day.
Thanks for the tip Katherine!
I have this quad and have been playing with it for almost a week. Overall, I agree with your rating. I like that you can go from soft to medium to full with this kit. I always have to use primer on my oily lids, and with primer, I say the pigmentation is medium to full but with a cream base, it can be built up to a dramatic effect. The shadows are smooth and layer beautifully over the BM 5-in-1 BB cream shadows, Bobbi Brown cream shadow sticks, Laura Mercier caviar sticks, and Giorgio Armani Eye Tints. I did experience some fading with #3, but this shadow goes right over the oily spot on my lid, so that’s probably just me, but a cream base definitely helps with that one. I agree the black is the best shade by far, and it’s a great satin matte (not too shimmery but not flat matte either), and it’s so hard to get blacks right. The colors aren’t unique, but they make a beautiful classic smoky eye, and it’s hard to get such great shadows all in one handy kit. I’ve tried other HE smoky eye kits (Burberry and Guerlain) and had to return them because they were of lesser quality (faded, sheer, powdery, muddy), so I’m very happy to find this one.
So glad to hear you’re enjoying this one, Katherine!
Hey Christine, the glossover for Tisse smokey #4 is coming up as unrated. It might just be my computer but I thought you should know just in case it wasn’t a problem at my end lol 🙂 x
Ps the look you did was gorgeous <3 x
Fixed! So, so sorry for my idiot mistake!
This makes for a perfectly appropriate daytime smokey eye. I really love how all 4 shades work together seamlessly, but not in a way that looks all running together either. Love the eye look you did here, because it shows how this can work for day wear!
Thanks so much, Nancy!
I really love the look of this quad and now seeing the review it’s definitely on my list of things to get!
Thank you, Maren!
I love this! I love the slight cool undertones to everything. I really feel like I need this but I’m not sure I can justify it!
I think you may have missed the grade on the black shade, I only see a – symbol!
It’s fixed now! So sorry!
Really pretty colours and surprisingly good quality, for some reason I thought this would be much worse!
Not for me though – greys usually turn an unflattering icy-blue on my eyelids, so I generally turn to taupe for my grey fix (and even then they often turn too blue!).
How interesting that even taupes turn blue on you! Glad you’ve figured out a way to make gray work on you though 😀
I honestly didn’t have high hopes the second I saw the colors in this palette, what a pleasant surprise! Also there’s no grade for shade #4 but a “–” sign.
Fixed! Sorry!
This is a nice palette. I swatched it the other day, though I think I like the blue better, mostly because I don’t have much in blue, but I have so many silvery, grey, white and black eyeshadows.
I can definitely see this being one of those quads one has dupes for!
Pretty.
It is!
This is a really gorgeous quad from Chanel, the colours are perfectly graduated for a cool toned look. I love both the greys, and the black and white fit in really well. Love this quad.
Your eye look is beautiful Christine.
Thank you, Genevieve!
It’s definitely pretty and perfect for the holidays, but I’m sure I can find similar shadows in my collection 🙂
Monica.
I bet you could 🙂
Grey is unfortunately really not my colour, but this is beautiful.
It is a good mix – the good sort of basics.
As much as I like the Tisse quads, this one just doesn’t generate much excitement for me (probably a good thing!). It amuses me to think how once, greys were my favourite eyeshadows and I’d have been all over this but now, like I say, just not too exciting but I am really glad this performed so well.
Now to see if Chanel puts one out for holiday that tempts you 😉
Was not expecting this to get such a good grade! A nice surprise! I don’t wear colors like this much, so thankfully, I won’t be buying it. Still need to dig into my fall collection quad!
I was a little surprised but happily surprised!
Great grade and Chanel quads are definitely to die for but the colors are very dupeable.
They are nice!
