Chanel Star Dust Joues Contraste Review, Photos, Swatches
Chanel Star Dust Joues Contraste
Chanel Star Dust Joues Contraste ($43.00 for 0.21 oz.) is described as a “shimmering soft pink.” It’s a pale, yellow-toned pink with golden shimmer and sparkle. NARS Undress Me is actually similar in color, but it has chunky glitter in it. MAC Launch Away is darker, brighter. MAC Crew is a little darker. MAC Flower Fantasy is more frosted. Chanel Brompton Road is very similar. Chanel Pink Cloud is similar–more frosted. Benefit Hervana is a little darker and matte.
It’s a really pale color even in the pan, so it’s only going to be a blusher on light complexions. On medium to dark complexions, it’ll be more of a highlighter. It’s true-to-pan color–it’s just so light in the pan that it’s not going to work as a blush for some–but it never looked chalky on.
The texture is so, so soft–like silk–and finely-milled! It applied smoothly and was a cinch to blend out. I was extremely surprised with the way this looked on the skin, because the sparkle-content worried me. It was almost like wearing a Glossimer but made for cheeks–it had a very refined, subtle quality. A little dazzle, a little zing, but it wasn’t chunky or gritty or really glittery on. It did not emphasize pores either. I wore this twice last week, and both times, it lasted for eight hours without fading.

Thanks so much for all the wonderful reviews Christine! I was wondering if this would in any way compare to Guerlain Cruel Gardenia? Also, I can’t WAIT to see the harmonie du soir review! I keep checking your site like a stalker. LOL! 🙂
Less shimmer-sheen – in comparison, Cruel Gardenia is almost frosty!
Thanks! Can’t wait for the quad review! You are awesome! 🙂
Are you going to review the eyeshadow quad as well? I am struggling about whether or not to buy the quad! I think the gold and taupe colors maybe are the same as the ones in the Topkapi quad from a year ago? And I am wondering if the plum color is closed to Burberry’s Mulberry eyeshadow.
mmm…can’t even see it on your cheeks.
Christine,
In your pictures, are you wearing Stardust as a highlighter or blush? I may need to add this to my lemming list!
All over cheeks 🙂
*Sigh*.. hope Chanel is restocking this one.. Sold Out 🙁 I sat on the fence too long.
It still has to launch at other retailers, I do believe! 🙂
I didn’t even see it launched on Chanel.com – I looked for the holiday tab and didn’t see it. I did finally see Star Dust under blushes, though.
That’s good news! Thanks dahlink 🙂
I spotted it on their website awhile ago, its been sold out for like a month? possibly more. I dont think they have yet to release it to the public.
I can’t wait until this comes out up here! I think this will be a perfect soft evening shade for me!
I want this so much. This is like the most perfect and beautiful blush ever.
Dang! I saw $30 at first and thought “Wow, Chanel is actually decreasing their prices?” Oh well. I’m still going to have to get this before it sells out.
Oops, sorry!
I *want* this. I wonder if I can pre-order from Nordy’s…
Yep, I’m not the only one salivating over the Chanel holiday offerings. Originally, I was ambivalent too. Damn!
It’s not available online at Nordstrom’s yet but if I get there this week I may ask the SA if I can put in a pre-order for this and the Glossimers.
If this is released in Europe then I will most likely get it. It seems like a perfect blush on pale skin and I already have a lot of pink on my cheeks so I don’t really need much colour in blush.
This looks a LOT like Tweed pink. The color and the sparkle really look the same.I have tweed pink and it doesn’t have the best quality, this one feels better in terms of quality(texture that is).I guess I would have preferred this one if I didn’t get the tweed like a month ago lol:)
Hmmm…when it’s blended out it just looks like a highlighter. The blended out shade actually reminds me a lot of Meterorites highlighter. Do they seem similar to you when blended out?
Meteorites have a similar texture/feel, but the sparkle is larger in Chanel’s than Meteorites!
I want this SO bad, but I’m scared that it will barely show up on my skin. But it DOES look really great on you, though subtle, so I will definitely still give it a shot!
Does the sparkle go all the way through the pan or is it an overlay?
Through the pan!
Very subtle shade, it’s on my list !
Hi Christine! Is this at all similar to Benefit Dandelion? P.S. thank you for all your reviews! They are soooo helpful. I really enjoy your site.
Dandelion is a bit darker and more matte 🙂
I’m confused as to how it can get a 10 for pigmentation when it is barely visible.
It’s exactly the color in the pan on – I just have darker skin, so unfortunately, it doesn’t show color on me.
This will be my first Chanel JC (in fact, my first Chanel makeup purchase ever). It’s so beautiful, I can’t wait to wear it on my NC15 skin in the winter. Thanks for the great review!
Would you prefer this or the new Guerlain perles du dragon?
If you wanted a blush/highlighter, than Star Dust, and if you wanted more of an all-over glow, then Meteorites.
Thanks! I was finally able to find this today in Neiman Marcus, it’s more glitter than I expected. And while I’m very fair, the color seems to show up better on your skin here. I didn’t apply with a brush, I was swatching only but I’m still undecided on whether or not I’ll be getting this. I love glitter, but I’m not sure how this will translate to my skin now. 🙁 It is very pretty, though. And I picked up the meteorites today, thanks!!
The glitter will definitely be less apparent on the skin 🙂
Thank you!
How close is this to Chanel Rose Ecrin? They look somewhat similar to my untrained eyes…
Christine just a heads up on the “any dupes?” part. It does not match up with the first set of dupes.
Thank you!
I finally found one of the last remaining (at the original price) compacts of this gorgeous blush. It’s so beautiful in the pan with the gorgeous shimmer. I am extremely fair, so this shows up fairly well on my skin. A super-soft baby pink with just a little hint of peach. The only thing I don’t love is that the shimmer does travel to other areas other than where directly applied. I’ll use less product next time and not blend as much. I can see how this would also be gorgeous as an eyeshadow. I can tell that I’m going to be reaching for this often.
