The Illusion d’Ombre formula is a cream eyeshadow that applies like a cream but dries down and feels more like a powder, as it remains blendable and doesn’t cling or feel tacky. The texture is smooth, blendable, and forgiving on the skin. It had good color coverage, though not quite opaque in one layer, that can be sheered out, if desired, as it is quite easily diffused. On me, this shade stayed on for nine hours before creasing slightly.

This looks an awful lot like Ebloui, which was too red toned for me (I used it so rarely that it sort of dried out, though it can still be used just by roughing up the surface a bit). As this shadow seems even more red, it isn’t something I would like to spend my makeup money on.
Totally makes sense if Ebloui didn’t work well for you!
Yeah! This looks like it would be nice as a base for that palette or a alone. Now, we have to hope the palette pulls through!
I don’t have the palette, so it won’t be until after it launches!
I totally understand. Thanks for the heads up. 🙂
I was expecting a little more intensity, but still, gorgeous shade!
It is a pretty color!
Very pretty. It reminds me of the dark color in the LE quad Poesie.
Ooh, I can see some resemblance!
This is so pretty! It reminds me of Ebloui in a way though it is clearly not as red.
I get what you mean 🙂
I love plum eyeshadows- whether they’re shimmery, satin or matte. This one is pretty, but I like the dupes better. Probably will get the Burberry, MUFE and Makeup Geek ones – can’t have too many right? 😀
Never! 😉
IDK, this looks more brown with a hint of plum. From the name Rouge Noire and the way it looked in the pot, I was expecting a darkened plum burgundy, which would’ve been great for fall/winter
Hopefully you’ll find something else in the color you were expecting to like instead! 🙂
That is dissapointing…
Oh, no!
I have been waiting with bated breath for this shadow! Thanks for the review, Christine. I’m so glad it got an A! Do you know when it will be available? Thanks!
No specific date!
As a green(er) eyed peep, we *know* these type of shades are my weakness, right? Yeah, this is definitely up my alley! Although I wish it had denser pigmentation when blended out, as I love my plummy or purple shades to be more intense. So I will probably nab either MUFE I834 Grape or MAC Rich Core instead. Cannot have enough plums, burgundies or purples!
Want. Need. Must. Have!
It’s gorgeous but I do wish it was a little more red.
Christine, your zoom lens photo of this cream shadow made my heart flutter for a few seconds (lol). If it could be this lush and dark on my lids I’d buy it in a minute. Alas, the next picture shows it being a little too sheer for my taste.
I really don’t like how it swatched blended out!! Sorry
I was hoping to see your eye look using this shade. Just knowing it is a plum toned shade is not enough for me. Sometimes plum shades can make skin tone appear ruddy in my opinion.
That being said, I had a thing for those illusions d ombre once. I think I own 6. But I find that they dry out long before the product is gone. And heaven forbid you drop one on the floor. I did once. The jar didn’t break, but the product, though still moist, shattered.I pieced it back together in the jar , like a ball of play-dough, but it was never the same effortless application again.
I’m disappointed at how plummy it is. Not Vamp at all! And I have – and love – Mulberry, so this is a definite miss.
I thought this would be a lot more intense, and less brown.
I have the MUFE dupe, so I don’t have to think about getting this. And the MUFE is really so nice to work with and to wear I don’t have to think about getting any dupes for it.
Well I’m kinda disappointed. I was expecting more intensity maybe- or more color? That sounds silly I know but not liking it sheer at all. This is definitely one I need to play with at the counter! Thanks for the heads up Christine.
Really pretty, but not as intense as I’d like. I have a couple of the dupes, so easy pass.
I just couldn’t make myself like it, although I love plum shades with my blue eyes. I have 2 other plums in this Chanel formula. This one was just too dark and severe for my taste.
but i did get the rouge noir eyeliner. It is sublime!
Totally understand!
