Rouge Audacieux (267)

Chanel Rouge Audacieux (267) Rouge Allure Velvet ($38.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a muted, deep red with neutral-to-warm undertones and a satiny sheen. It seemed to have barely-there pearl that gave it a slightly more luminous finish but did not appear overtly shimmery.

The texture was lightweight, thin but not clingy, and smooth, so the lipstick glided comfortably across my lips but didn’t feel too slippery while worn. It stayed on nicely for five hours and felt lightly hydrating over time.

Formula Overview

$38.00/0.12 oz. - $316.67 Per Ounce

The Rouge Allure Velvet formula is supposed to be a "non-drying matte lipstick" with "intensely rich, long-wearing colour" and has a "velvet matte finish." Over time, I felt like the formula has improved and is actually non-drying (the original launch did not wear well on me) to lightly drying (seen more in shades that have lasted six to eight hours). The pigmentation varies from shade to shade but is usually semi-opaque to opaque with a semi-matte to satin finish. The texture had a velvety, glide-on feel that doesn't feel particularly creamy or wet, yet the lipstick is comfortable to wear over the four to six hours it typically lasts for. Like most Chanel lip products, they have a rosy scent but no discernible taste.

Rouge Fauve (277)

Chanel Rouge Fauve (277) Rouge Allure Velvet ($38.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a slightly muted, medium reddish-copper with subtle, warm undertones and a satin finish. It had rich color coverage that applied evenly and smoothly across my lips without tugging.

The texture felt lightweight, more velvety but not too thick or too dense–much lighter-weight than most “velvety” textures–that sat well on my lips. It wore well for five hours and felt lightly moisturizing over time.

Both have such luscious richness of color, I love them! However…I cannot even consider such rich shades in a traditional bullet lipstick formula until I no longer need to wear a mask. For now, I will only get something with this depth in a liquid dry-down lipstick.

Both are absolutely gorgeous – but Rouge Fauve would be my favourite. Such vibrant lipsticks and the finish looks very creamy. My favourite kind of lipstick.
