Chanel Monte Carlo Rouge Coco Shine
Chanel Monte Carlo Rouge Coco Shine
Chanel Monte Carlo Rouge Coco Shine ($32.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a semi-sheer, pinked red with subtle pink shimmer. The Rouge Coco formula is designed to be a lightweight lipstick with high shine and a moisturizing base. Based on the description of the color range, it is expected to be sheerer rather than opaque. (If you’re looking for something more opaque, Rouge Allures will be more up your alley.)
It’s a lightweight, nearly scent-free (I couldn’t distinguish what it was, but it was very faint), and has an emollient base. It applies evenly and smoothly, because it has that balm-like quality. Unfortunately, it only lasts two to three hours on me, but I would say it is on the moisturizing side, though not as moisturizing as my favorite lip balms.
I do wish these were the same size as other lipsticks in Chanel’s line (like 0.12 oz.), because of the emollient base, it’s easy to over-apply the product–and the need for reapplication being every couple of hours means you’ll go through a tube much faster than other lipsticks in Chanel’s range.

Lovely on you, Christine. But i love even more is your eye makeup in this swatch photo. So fresh. What are you using in this picture.
I have Boy and Cavaliere. I LOVE Boy and haven’t worn Cavaliere enough to have an opinion. I find them moisturizing when I first put them on and after an hour or so they’ve dried to an almost matte finish.
I know the sheer lipsticks are very trendy this year and all the makeup lines are coming out with them, but I’ve been getting them from Clinique for years now, their Butter Shine formula. I find that it’s a much better formula for staying wet and wet-looking like a gloss. Chocolate Ice has been my go to lipstick for years now, I buy it two at a time! Anyway, if you like these types of lipsticks I would also recommend the Clinique line, at $15 it’s worth a try.
I agree with you regarding the Clinique Butter Shine Lipsticks! I love the formula as well, the color range and the fact that they’re fragrance and taste free. I definitely recommend them as well!
I agree with you, love the Butter Shine line from Clinique!
I’m super disappointed by these. I know Chanel is a classy brand, but I wanted something with more color or glitz or glam. They’re too expensive to be so sheer, even if they are moisturizing. I’ll be saving my money, but I still love Chanel! ๐
I agree, it’s too sheer. But it does look superb on you, Christine!
I picked up Antigone (#60- it’s everywhere in Canada, but I think it’s exclusive to either Saks or NM in the States) and I agree with everything you’ve said. It’s a lovely, mositurising, semi-sheer product, but because of the short wear time and the fact that these are more expensive than regular Chanel lipsticks, I can’t see myself collecting a lot of them.
Own this shade, love it. It’s exactly what I wanted for summer- a sheer, bright color, with great moisture (I can almost wear it without a balm, unprecedented for me) and last pretty darn good, too. I find this shade in particular leaves a nice, subtle stain on my lips as it fades, no horrendous ring of color around the edge of the lips. Pricey? Yes, but I’m getting so much use out of it that its worth the price.
I love the sheer lipstick trend, though I have yet to try Chanel’s. I think I have enough of other brands…I really liked Guerlain’s Strass, and the Yves Saint Laurent lipstick/balm is very nice and goes on very evenly. I’m trying to get my 71 year old mom to try a sheer lipstick, so far without luck.
I wish these contained some SPF, like the Aqualumieres!
These are, as noted below, pretty sheer. I have Cavaliere and I’m layering it over other lipsticks to get more oomph. This is a quiet lipstick that wears off within half an hour–if not sooner! Cavaliere is more or less YLBB, with a purplish/blue tinge (very slight).
I do like the way Monte Carlo looks on you. The tone suits your coloring and that color might be too gaudy in a full-on lipstick. The lighter, sheerer, Rouge Coco texture works well here to brighten your complexion while still being subtle.
I absolutely love these lipsticks, I have dry lips and they just feel so nice on and I actually like that they are sheer and a little buildable. They are so glossy and lovely to wear. I only have Romance and I now think I may pick this one up tomorrow ๐
I have Monte-Carlo and I love it!
Maybe MAC Viva Glam Cindy it’s similar, but not a dupe…
Eh… Way sheer for my taste.
What a coincidence! I got a sample of these last week and just tried one of them yesterday before I saw this post. And, lo and behold, this is the exact same shade I tried on! Yes, they are sheer, but on my it actually was very pigmented. It looks much different on me than on you, Christine (looked almost coral-y, very bright). I found the color just ok, but I do like the sheer formula. I think I will take reader’s advice and try the Clinique ones. As much as I may like these, they are waaaay to expensive for my budget.
That looks lovely on you!
It’s pretty, but I thought it would be a whole lot more of a opaque lipstick, too bad, looks really pretty in the tube, wish the color pay off was more pigmented. Xoxo
This is on my list, for sure. Swatched it in the store not long ago and it looks great on my very fair skin. Lovely ๐ I’m wondering about the ingredients though – do you have an ingredients list/photo for this one?
Would you say that Rouge Coco Shines have a stronger scent than the Rouge Cocos? I find the scent with the Rouge Cocos to be too strong, so Iโd like to try the Shines if they arenโt as heavily fragranced.
