Chanel Cinema and Paparazzi Le Vernis Nail Colour Review, Photos, Swatches

Chanel Cinema Le Vernis Nail Colour ($27.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is subtly cool-toned, brightened medium-dark red with a creamy, almost jelly-like, finish. MAC Touch of Red is similar. MAC Russian Red is darker. MAC Flaming Rose is a few shades darker. Dior Marilyn is similar. Chanel Suspicious is darker, cooler. Cult Nails Evil Queen is brighter. China Glaze Hey Sailor is similar. Zoya Sooki is darker. Essie Silken Cord is cooler. See comparison swatches. It applied beautifully–no streaking, bubbling, or pooling along the edges. It was opaque in two coats, and the polish dried to a naturally glossy finish. The consistency wasn’t too thick or too thin, so it was easy to apply and control.

Paparazzi Le Vernis Nail Colour ($27.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is a muted, plummy brown with copper pearl. I couldn’t think of anything that really came close to this–SpaRitual Quartz is much more orange, rather than plum. Chanel April is cooler-toned, pinker, and shimmer-free. See comparison swatches. ย Not only was it a more unique color (relative to what I’ve seen), it had great color payoff, a lovely consistency, and was a breeze to apply. ย It was opaque in two coats, and I didn’t have any trouble with the formula streaking, bubbling, or pooling along the edges because it wasn’t too thick or too thin. ย I typically get a week of wear out of Chanel’s formula with minor tip wear but no chipping.

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

Paparazzi reminds me of Illamasqua Faithful (which can only ever be a good thing). Faithful is a bit more coppery and it looks like the gold would be a bit more glittery rather than shimmer, but similar sort of concept. If anything, Paparazzi has the plum undertones I wish Faithful had!

Hi Christine, I wanted to know whether you always use a top coat in your reviews and if so which one you use? I never seem to be able to get such a glossy finish either with or without top coat. Any tips much appreciated. Thanks for your ever helpful reviews! x

No base or top coat for swatches! ๐Ÿ™‚ The exception would be say a matte or wax finish polish, then I might also apply a top coat so you can see what it looks like with one!

Got Paparazzi yesterday, it’s one of Chanel must-haves polishes for me, together with Paradoxal, Taboo and Rose Confidentiel. And maybe Frenzy ๐Ÿ™‚
