Chanel Boy Rouge Coco Shine ($32.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a pale beige-y pink with a high shine and very soft, white micro-shimmer. It’s semi-sheer, and the fact that it’s more of a my-lips-but-better shade doesn’t yield a lot of noticeable color, but it’s pretty. The shade is available for a limited window of time (until February 14th) online and at select Nordstrom locations, and then it will return, along with the full range of Rouge Coco Shines, in April. Chanel describes the Rouge Coco Shine formula as a moisturizing, high-shine lipstick with a lightweight texture. The Hydratendre complex is supposed to hydrate and soften lips to give them a fuller look.

my thoughts on the formula: It’s a lightweight, nearly scent-free (I couldn’t distinguish what it was, but it was very faint), and has an emollient base. It applies evenly and smoothly, because it has that balm-like quality. Unfortunately, it only lasts two to three hours on me, but I would say it is on the moisturizing side.

It’s pretty, but I think for the price tag I’d need to see something much more pigmented. That was so close to nude it’s more like expensive lip balm 🙁

I ordered this from Chanel.com this morning.
Honestly I am more interested in the other colors from this line, but I still had to get it.
It looks rather lovely on you…It almost has a MAC Marquise d’ look as shine goes on you.
It looks nice on you as well.

I guess we will have to wait until April to see how this line will measure up to other chanel lip products/ other brands of similar type formulas.

i pre-ordered this at my local nordstrom chanel counter, and i can’t wait to pick it up today! 🙂 the color is gorgeous, and i’m excited to see the rest of the shades in march! i’m going to be so broke lol.

Maya Avatar

I think it looks really pretty on you! It’s probably too sheer to show up as much of anything on my pigmented lips though. 🙁 Thank you also for posting the ingredients, that’s great!

I ordered this a little after 12am today. I’ve been waiting for a while and my nearest Nordis is an hour away ( I had to work today) so I was so happy to see we could place an order online. What’s weird is that when I got home form work today, I logged onto Chanel.com and it said my order was cancelled!!?? I didn’t receive an email as to why, but I have heard some horror stories from people that have ordered form Chanel.com in the past. Oh well, I just placed another order and hope for the best!:) ( Yes, I’m one of Those People that has to have something the second it comes out!….it’s a problem, I’m working on it:)

I just got the same thing and I ordered at 10pm the day before! They had it up early, so I jumped on it, and just now I got an email saying that my order was cancelled because it was out of stock! But if you go back, you can still put it in your bag. Not sure what gives, but I’m curious as to what happened!

Bekx Avatar

That has happened to me before when ordering from Chanel.com. On two occasions, actually… Both times it was merely a case of the samples that I requested being out of stock.
I hope that is the case with your order. 🙂

I had the same issue!! I’ve called Chanel multiple times because I really want this color, not to mention that the charge is still on my credit card, but they don’t seem to have any answers. They didn’t recommend that I order it again…even though it’s still available on the website, because they think that they may not have any in stock. HOW can you not have any in stock but still have it on your website!?!? This will be my last channel.com purchase.

That is downright beautiful! The shade is VERY flattering on you, Christine, but I think it would look good on nearly any skintone. In fact, it looks like the perfect MLBB for anyone. It’s more expensive than the regular Rouge Coco line, but I think I might still splurge… It looks amazing. I can’t wait to see what the other shades are like.

It seems everyone loves very pigmented lip products. I always have more trouble applying very pigmented lip products (ie. Makeup Forever lipstick – couldn’t get it to work for me since it’s so pigmented), so I lean towards sheerer products because they look more natural and just subtly pretty. This is actually more pigmented than I thought it would be. It looks gorgeous on you, Christine. I think it’s worth trying. I am also curious about the other shades, but I wouldn’t mind starting with this one.

Oooh, Christine, I just found out about these Coco Shines the other day and was hoping you’d do a review of them soon. I’m not too keen on Boy, but I’m optimistic that there will be at least one shade in the mix that I’ll fall for 🙂 I hope you’ll review more shades once they launch!

I find it so funny how this shade is being hyped up just like Mademoiselle was. 😀 Anyway, it doesn’t do anything for me. I also prefer Rouge Allure to Rouge Coco, but I will check out the full range once they come to the UK. I was wondering though, how does the formula/texture compare to Guerlain Rouge G Le Brillant? Thanks!

Nancy Avatar

I like the story behind this shade and Name but I don’t really need another do nothing lipstick. I am really interested in the other colors that are going to come out in March. I am passing on this but will get several of the other fun shades!

Eleonora Avatar

I got it as soon as I tried it on. Mostly because in Italy we don’t usually get as many products in LE or continuative stock as other places.
I was looking for something light and hydrating to use on the go as I’m usually in a hurry and I’m not a fan of complicated retouches aka when you’re wearing dark lipstick and you don’t have a compact mirror or something like that.

Would you say that that lipstick is like the “aqualumière” range from Chanel or very different? It was meant to replace it no?

Jennie P Avatar

I received my little treasure yesterday and I ABSOLUTELY love it. I have quite pigmented lips and ‘Boy’ makes them a wonderfully natural almost raspberry. I played a little and smudged a little foundation on my lips and then applied ‘Boy’ and the effect was a very soft pink. When I first applied my lips were a bit dry and chappy, after half an hour of wear they were noticeably smoother and supple. The formula is far superior to the Aqualumier line that this is replacing. Aqualumier tended to be sometimes gritty and often staining. This is , as promised, smooth, moisturizing, sheer and lightweight. A lover of true cream, opaque color will probably not appreciate this formula. The lover of sheer, smooth, emollient, luminous color will adore this. A true pleasure to have on my now smoother, supple lips ! 🙂

Christine, how does it compare to Guerlain’s Rouge G Beatrix (B60)? I have Beatrix and LOVE it, so I don’t know if I should get Boy (in April), if they are similar…

nicola katherine Avatar

I love these lipsticks, they are the perfect everyday lipstick!
I think the scent is rose. I smelt it for ages trying to work it out.

kelly Avatar

HI. I have this lipstick and it looks completely different on my lips. Nowhere near as nude as it looks on your lips Christine. I really like it.
