Chanel April Le Vernis Review, Photos, Swatches
Chanel April Le Vernis
Chanel Spring 2012: April Le Vernis
Chanel April Le Vernis ($25.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is a berry red cream that’s opaque in two coats. It’s a new shade for spring (and according to Chanel’s press release, it’s not limited edition!). The formula on this felt really lovely; it was thin without being streaky or watery, but it applied easily to the nail and evened out nicely. I’ve had good luck with Chanel’s lacquers; they last about a week on me without chipping and just have minor tip wear. It’s a darker shade that’s still lighthearted; it’s like the last few days of winter and the first few days of spring.
For whatever reason, creams always seem like they will be dupable, but so often, they really aren’t. Essie Size Matters is a much deeper, darker shade, that appears redder. Instead, Butter London Blowing Raspberries is the shade I have that is most similar, but it is a bit more berry–it is fairly close, though, and with the price difference, it may be more palatable. Zoya Sarah reminded me of April, too, but it is very shimmery and redder, so it is quite different.

The right kind of pink… I hate! 😀
Vale
I love Chanels’ nail polish and this one is a lovely shade. It’s definitively coming to my collection.
What’s your favorite Chanel polish?
So many…but I do keep faithful to black pearl and dragon.
It’s a very pretty color, but not unique enough to justify the $25 tag, especially since I find Chanel finicky at best formula-wise.
The formula is really nice to work with – I obviously haven’t tested the wear of this particular shade, though I haven’t had any chipping problems with Chanel myself in the past!
I love that it’s not quite pink, but not quite red either. It’s a perfect winter/spring transitional colour.
Definitely a good transitional shade!
Cute colour!!!! ♥
Pretty, but it’s just not unique enough for me to drop $25 on it.
I totally understand!
Gorgeous! Glad it is perm because I want it but not right this minute. Do you happen to know of a lipstick (cream or matte finish preferably) that is the same color?
Maybe something like MAC Rebel?
Rebels shows up very purple on me, unfortunately! Thanks for the recommendation, though. I’ve been on the hunt for a true raspberry for some time now 🙁
What about Bobbi Brown Cosmic Raspberry?
I will check it out the next time I’m at a BB counter. Thanks!
I saw this at Nordstrom when I was checking out the new spring collection. I wanted to get it decided against it since I got two more things from the collection. Thanks for the review; I’m reconsidering it and I might pick it up!
No prob, Eva!
Are the other two nail polishes, May and June going to be permenant as well?
June is listed as LE!
With such an awesome review, I think it is going to be another addition to my Chanel polishes collection. I’m pretty happy that it is not a LE, tho!!. That way I won’t have to hurry and get frustrated if I miss out on it… Do you know if the other two shades will be LE as well?. By the way, I just can’t for the life of me make any of my nail polishes last more than two or three days without chipping or having to retouch major damage. What do you recommend for this?.
Grats on the proposal, btw!! Merry Christmas!! ^^
June is listed as LE! 🙂
I want maaaay !! 🙂 I was born on that month, I deserve that polish haha 🙂
Really love this. I know I will pick this one up for sure, can’t wait to see if you swatch the two other nail releases. 🙂
My name is April, so obviously I bought this one right away! Love it!
Aww!
Hey Christine!!!!! Thanks for the lovely review,i’m sure i’ll be burning a hole in my pocket with this collection but what i really would like to know is are there any similiarities between this and Chanel’s rouge fatal??Thank you!!!
can we get a pic with no flash???
None of these are with flash.
Whenever I look at it, it reminds me of Guerlain’s Garconne. Isn’t that odd?
That is odd!
Thanks for swatching. Always and ever, only Chanel Le Vernis, but only if you say so. And you have, so I am TOTALLY sold!
No prob!
This is beautiful and the month I was born in. SOLD. 😀
Uh oh, I bought this and although the colour is lovely, the texture was a bit difficult to work with: a bit too thin, it pooled unevenly on my nails, making visible pools of dry lacquer. Will try again. Perhaps it was just my incompetence. 🙂
Oh no! 🙁 Did you roll the bottle first? I bet you did but that’s the only thing I could think!
I did. I rolled it quite a bit as I was going to use it for the first time, but no deal, it didn’t look or feel thick, but it was a nightmare to apply.
Because of the pooling, the lacquer was uneven and fragile and chipped away almost by the full nail (!!). When I tried it a second time the texture (and staying power) seemed much improved, so probably just a bottle that needed a little bit more of a mix than usual. 🙂
Yay!
