Burberry Effortless Kohl Eyeliners Review, Photos, Swatches
Burberry Chestnut Brown No. 02 Effortless Kohl Eyeliner
Burberry Effortless Kohl Eyeliner ($29.00 for 0.01 oz.) is a twist-up, mechanical eyeliner available in four shades (I have two to review). The formula is supposed to be “long-lasting” and “waterproof” with “exceptional colour release.” There’s a built-in sharpener as well. The two I tried were fairly pigmented in one stroke, and they’re just creamy enough not to be painful to use, but it’s not a formula I’d describe as soft or creamy. There’s a firmness to the pencil overall, but it isn’t dry or stiff.
Burberry Chestnut Brown No. 02 Effortless Kohl Eyeliner ($29.00 for 0.01 oz.) is a dark brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had good pigmentation in a single pass, and it was buildable to fully opaque color in two passes. The pencil applied without tugging, and it started to fade after eight and a half hours of wear. It appeared to be waterproof–I took a shower with it on and didn’t find it running or smearing afterwards.
Urban Decay Lush (P, $20.00) is darker. Buxom Here’s My Number (P, $17.00) is very similar. Sephora Collection Diving in Malaysia (18) (P, $9.00) is darker. Make Up For Ever #25L (P, $19.00) is similar. Urban Decay Demolition (P, $19.00) is similar. MAC Photogravure (P, $16.00) is lighter. MAC Rich Experience (P, $20.00) is similar. MAC Stubborn Brown (P, $16.00) is lighter. MAC Coffee (P, $16.00) is similar. Make Up For Ever Gypsy (LE, $19.00) is similar. Bobbi Brown Chocolate (LE, $24.00) is less matte. See comparison swatches/ view dupes.
Burberry Pale Grape No. 04 Effortless Kohl Eyeliner ($29.00 for 0.01 oz.) is a blackened plum with cool undertones and a matte finish. It had decent color payoff in a single stroke but was better with two layers. The consistency is just creamy enough not to drag, and the color holds onto the lash line well. I was able to get eight and a half hours of wear out of the shade, and it seemed to be waterproof (I took a shower with it on, and it didn’t smear or run). Tarina Tarantino Ultraviolet (P, $15.00) is more shimmery. MAC Strong Willed (P, $20.00) is more shimmery, warmer. Urban Decay Rockstar (P, $19.00) is more shimmery. bareMinerals 5PM (P, $15.00) is less purple. Bobbi Brown Black Plum (P, $24.00) is less matte. See comparison swatches/ view dupes.

Both these colours are right up my street! Chestnut Brown is so pretty good thing it’s similar to Mac Coffee which I love!
Yay for dupes! 🙂
Oooh both colors are so gorgeous! And I can live with two passes 🙂
🙂
Pretty, the grape shade is beautiful!
It is a nice color!
I especially like the fact that it’s not shimmery like most other purple pencils!
Sometimes I’m glad that certain brands aren’t readily available. I kind of like the grape one, but not enough to order it. 🙂
Phew!
I like the grape shade 🙂 Neither of them has dethroned UD Demolition/Empire/Rockstar for me though, LOL!
Your wallet is happy about that 😉
I love brown pencils. They are indispensable, and cannot be too much. Your phrase “I took a shower with it on and didn’t find it running or smearing afterwards” is music to my ears.
Therefore, Chestnut Brown will be a pre-Christmas gift to me.
Happy pre-Christmas! 🙂
Christine, do these stay on the lower waterline? I have tried so many pencils (UD, MUFE, Marc Jacobs, IT, Mally, etc) and have yet to find one that works for mine. The best one so far has been Prestige Intensity, and that lasts for about 3-4 hours.
I didn’t test them on the water line, but some that inadvertently got on the water line seem to stay for a few hours (but not the entire length of time), but the tip is too fine for me to use on my waterline with ease (I am more sensitive there).
Thanks, Christine for the response!
I don’t like these colors at all. For me, the brown is too yellow. The Pale Grape is an unappealing red-brown.
Thank goodness there are so many alternatives to both shades 🙂
I don’t care if it looks the same as every other eyeliner out there, but HOLY MOLLY! Burberry takes the cake when it comes to design and packaging!
They are very sleek!
I really like Pale Grape!
Woohoo!!
I love this, but I am thankful you give us dupes. $29 for an eyeliner is really pushing it, in my opinion. Thank you for the swatches, as always.
My pleasure, Jenny!! 🙂
