Bright Makeup: Sky Blues
Bright Makeup: Sky Blues
I got the BLUES! At least, when it comes to the next week… because it’s study, study, STUDY! I feel like my focus is off, too, which is very annoying and frustrating. I managed to get through one outline yesterday, and today, I hope to get through another today… and then start memorizing both!
You will need the following…
- Eyes: MAC Soft Ochre Paint Pot (neutral beige base), MAC Frost Pigment (teal), MAC Vellum Eyeshadow (white with purple flash), MAC Sky Blue Eyeshadow (PRO) (sky blue), MAC Winkle Eyeshadow (periwinkle blue), MAC Atlantic Blue Eyeshadow (PRO) (brightened dark blue), MAC Electric Eel Eyeshadow (bright blue), MAC Shroom Eyeshadow (highlighter), YSL Oriental Blue Dessin du Regard Eyeliner (navy blue), YSL Turquoise Dessin du Regard Eyeliner (teal), MAC NC15/NW20 Chromagraphic Pencil (nude), MAC Plushlash Mascara (black)
- Face: Make Up For Ever HD Foundation (140)
- Cheeks: Dolce & Gabbana Peach Blush (soft beige-pink), Dior Amber Diamond Skin Shimmer (golden highlight)
- Lips: Cle de Peau #101 Extra Silky Lipstick (coral), MAC C-Thru Lipglass (creamy nude), Guerlain Brit Rouge G Lipstick, Guerlain #01 Terracotta Gloss (sheer champagne)
- Brushes: 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 116 (dense blush brush)
- Substitutes: N/A
For eyes, start by applying Soft Ochre paint pot as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. With the 239 and water-based mixing medium (or water), apply Frost pigment all over the lid area. Using the 239, apply Vellum eyeshadow on the inner third of the eyelid. Next, apply Sky Blue eyeshadow on the middle third of the eyelid and lightly blend with the inner corner. Darken the outer third of the lid with Winkle eyeshadow with the 239, gently brushing it into the lower crease. Lightly blend Atlantic Blue eyeshadow, with the 226, into the outer crease and corner. Define the crease by sweeping Electric Eel eyeshadow into the lower crease with the 219. Lightly tap and brush Vellum eyeshadow directly above the crease to soften. To finish the eyeshadow look, sweep Shroom eyeshadow as a highlighter on the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying Oriental Blue eyeliner on the outer half of the lower lash line and Turquoise eyeliner on the inner half of the lower lash line. Apply NC15/NW20 pencil on the lower waterline to make eyes pop. Finish by sweeping lashes with Plushlash mascara.
For cheeks, apply Peach blush to the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116. Then, highlight cheekbones by sweeping Amber Diamond with the 165.
For lips, apply #101 lipstick first, and then layer C-thru lipiglass for a complementing lip. An alternative lip could be created by first applying Brit lipstick layered with #01 gloss.

Thanks, YJ!
pretty
Thanks, Jaspreet!
You Look gorgeous, as usual!! I think you look great in every “eye look” that you create!!
Thanks so much, Stacy!
Very pretty…I wish I could wear that look to work. Well I could, but it might be a bit too much. No one really wears makeup where I work (crazy people!)
Thank you, Nicole! 🙂
Aww, I know how you feel, though!
Love the look! Vellum has been discontinued by MAC:(
About a month ago I went to the pro store to buy it and they said it was discontinued. Hopefully they’ll re-release it at some point!
Thanks, Melanie!
Has it? I can’t remember if it was just made permanent at PRO only or totally discontinued 🙁
omg love it
Thank you, Laura!
So pretty! Very Miami/St. Tropez. I love that blush on you. You look so radiant! Best of luck with school.
Haha! Thank you, PJ!
Gorgeous! You always know how to pair up your eye makeup and lippies so that they compliment each other really nicely. I love it!
Thanks a lot, Kathy!
Pretty as usual, Christine! You seem to pull off EVERY colour… I’m so scared of blues… :((
Thank you, Francesca!
I really love the colors!!!
I have a nonbeauty related question, but what camera do you use to take all of you pictures? I really love the quality!
Thanks, Grace!
Nikon D90!
Blue does not look so great on me but it looks very nice on you. Good luck studing!
spelling error, I meant studying 🙂
Thanks, Farida!
Love this color on you!
Thanks, Ari!
Wow!! Nice blue, reminds me of the blue sky on a bright summer day. 😉 Love the blending.
I just had a blue EOTD too from a makeover….but more toward blue smoky…
Thanks so much, Vonvon!
What blues did you use?
You are welcome, Christine.
The artist used shades from Estee Lauder Signature Eyeshadow Quad Blue Smoke(navy blue) and a Pure Color Eyeshadow with aqua blue shade(discontinued) as it was a makeover from Estee Lauder. 🙂
My favorite look of you EVER! SOOOO pretty on you!
Aww, thanks, Jillian!
One of my favourites in a long time Christine! I’m wearing coral tonight (Vegas Volt!) but I’ll try it tomorrow. I’m already thinking of the shadows I’ll use (that I own!)
Thank you, Nadine 🙂
I love blue eyeshadow, but sometimes I worry about it looking a bit 80’s. Oh well, it brings out brown eyes beautifully!
Thanks, K! 🙂
This looks great but sorry Christine you didn’t top your So Blue, So, So, Blue! look, it was so gorgeous I have it as my screen saver =)
lol! Thank you though 🙂
I really love this look those blues look good together.
Than you, Heather!
Such a pretty look, I have one thing that I’ve always wanted to say about your eye makeup, I always think your look would be more complete or ‘finished’ with an eyeliner on top lids, just curious if you use them or if there is a reason why you don’t use one regularly?
So pretty !
Thank you! Wearing eyeliner on my upper lash line causes my lash line to swell, itch, and water — which then causes my makeup to run and get into my eyes. My lash line/lid area is often swollen or red afterward.
You’re as coooold as iiiiice… The Guerlain lips are my favorite. I also lurve the two eyeliners and the undercrease color. It adds an extra dimension to the look 🙂
Haha! Thank you, Roxanne 🙂
Awesome look. 🙂 Although I am kind of wondering why I don’t yet have Sky Blue eye shadow. Lol.
Thanks, Sarah! It’s a pretty shade for sure!
hey christine
i like the bold brow effect this look has…it reminds me of the alexander mcqueen collection from a couple years back.
this is off topic, but i was just having a browse through your ‘looks’ archive (i was hoping to find some inspiration for ‘newly minted’… which i finally purchased before it completely disappears from my mac store), and it’s really amazing how much you have developed your documenting style and photo format. great work!
Thanks a lot, Aradhana 🙂
Very pretty! I especially love the second lip combo, been meaning to get Brit, but too mean to pay £27 for it.
Thanks, Anita 😉
these blues look very lovely. Looks like I need another trip to the PRO store to try these out.
Thanks, Amy!
when i first saw this i was like, WOW that is WAY too bright but then i looked at it more and its really pretty. the more i look at your look the more i like blue e/s on you. you should wear blue more often =)
Aww, thank you, Sara!
Oh, that looks so pretty and summery!
Thanks, Sharon!
Your hair looks so nice! As does everything else 🙂
Thank you, Helena!
ooh I likees
Thanks, Bettina!
Thanks, Bettina! 🙂
LOVE IT!!!
Thank you, Mel!
The blue looks so amazingly beautiful paired with your brown eyes :]
Thanks, Annie!
very nice christine :), love this.. i’ve been obsessed with blue eyeshadow lately, and that mascara is made for you!
Thank you, Alisha!
That looks gorgeous on you, but then again – your blue looks are always extremely flattering to your skintone and eye color 🙂
I do have a suggestion though, as a long time daily reader. I hope you don’t take this as criticism Christine, because you’re a beautiful gal with a great site that I make it a point to visit every single day (seriously! It’s on my daily viewing list!).
BUT, it would be really nice to see some more streamlined makeup looks. It seems like all of the makeup looks are sort of “done up” and complicated.
For instance, this look has a shadow base, SEVEN eyeshadows, and 3 liners incorporated. And while you look beautiful, I think most of us probably don’t use quite so many products in our looks. It would be really cool to see some looks with instructions that are a little more streamlined – like a more traditional 3 shadows, one liner kind of thing for those of us who would like to be inspired by something that we could actually find the time for and/or pull off in the morning 🙂
It’s just a suggestion though – as someone who reads all the time, I’d love to be able to see a look done by you and then try it myself. With these ones with so much shadow though, I don’t see myself doing it. It would be cool to see some pared down options! 🙂
Hi Brie,
This is just kind of how I do my makeup — I’ve always enjoyed combining different shades, colors, and textures — but you can always modify something I do, if you like it, to suit your style/lifestyle/time. Just like I don’t expect everyone to own what I use, so I always encourage people to use what they have in their stash that works best. This look took me about fifteen minutes to do, from eyes to cheeks to lips, so overall, it was quite streamlined in terms of time — no heavy lifting at all 🙂 I think it actually took longer for me to clean my brushes afterward than to apply, LOL!
I am sure that you get this question all of the time but what type of camera do you use to take your makeup pictures? TIA! 🙂
