Bobbi Brown Midnight Violet High Shimmer Lipgloss Review, Photos, Swatches
Bobbi Brown Midnight Violet High Shimmer Lipgloss
Bobbi Brown Midnight Violet High Shimmer Lipgloss ($23.00 for 0.24 fl. oz.) is described as a “black orchid with pearl.” It’s a dark brown-red with burgundy, copper, and violet shimmer. MAC Lasting Achievement is redder, more burgundy. MAC Lap of Luxury is more plum. MAC Black Tea is browner, lighter. NYX Vixen is very close, though a little more metallic. MAC RIchly Revered is less brown and doesn’t have shimmer. Illamasqua Hermetic is more metallic, more opaque, and a little browner.
This applies much better than Plum Gold, which is a color I totally love, but it doesn’t apply as evenly. For such a dark gloss that’s not opaque, it really does apply rather evenly. It has semi-opaque color–there’s still some translucency where my natural lip color peeks through, but it adds significant color to my lips. This is a gloss range that seems to go anywhere from ultra sheer to more opaque, and Midnight Violet is on the more opaque end of the spectrum.
What makes this gloss a standout for me is the high shimmer aspect; it’s ultra glossy but so sparkling, dazzling, and gorgeous on. I love that you don’t feel the shimmer; it never feels gritty, and it doesn’t travel while you wear it. The formula is lightweight, moisturizing, and wears well–this particular shade stayed on for five hours. Like other Bobbi Brown glosses, the High Shimmer Lipglosses are scented with mint but have no taste. They’re also non-sticky and come with a tapered doe-foot applicator.

Ooooohh, so pretty! I love how it’s sophisticated rather than vampish – it’s like, the same shade in a different finish would be vampish, but the finish provides just enough relief that it just looks really grown-up and lovely.
Wow, I really love this vampy shade, it’s definitely very sexy! Also trying out the new comment system, looks fancy!
@BellaChique It is fancy! There are soooo many cool features to it. And I really LOVE that people can get notified of follow-up responses to their comment. It was something we always wanted, and the only plugins were for notification of ANY response/comment on that post – which would kill our mail system when someone accidentally subscribed to notifications on a contest post.
@temptalia Oh yes I just received a mail! This so so awesome! I’ve been looking for a system that does this! I might need this on my own blog now, lol! Now I only need to convince my bf to install it, haha! I’m impressed!
@BellaChique I’m most impressed by their customer service/response time. But I really love that it incorporates conversations across Facebook to Twitter to the blog, and you can get more notifications, people can like comments – and people can also flag comments if we miss something!
@Christine @ Temptalia @BellaChique I’m really liking this setup too! Much nicer than Disqus!
LOVE!
Gorgeous colour! Looks like I have to go shopping!
Totes off topic but I love the new comment set up!
Wow, Christine! That gloss really lights up your face! Compliments your eyes, drawing attention to them. Gorgeous!
New comment system! And a pretty lipgloss too.
Love this new system!! But not really feeling this gloss 🙁
@Ana G Better to dislike the gloss than the new comment system, LOL!
please tell me the new glossover system is temporary! it’s hard to read! =( I liked the old one better where u had a big nice box at the end….
There hasn’t been any change to the Glossover…
@Christine @ Temptalia
Then your coding is messed up because the pink box is gone and the glossover is showing up as plain text with no differential between the post content and the glossover.
Could you please email our technical support with specific details about what page it happens on, what browser you’re using, whether you’re on a PC/Mac/mobile, and a screen shot? Unfortunately, everything is fine on our end, so since we can’t reproduce the error, it’s difficult for us to understand what you’re seeing.
I’m sorry to be super off topic but I just want to check out the new comment system . . . maybe a “test commenting system here” post is in order?
It is a lovely gloss though!
It is such a sophisticated color. Even though it is Spring, I find myself drawn to the darker shades. I will check this out at BB:)
It looks crazy uneven!
I think this would look lovely over a deep red lipstick, Kranberry or Mystere by Youngblood are my favies right now.
This color is too intense. How does it compare to Mac Decorative Lustreglass?
MAC Decorative is sheerer, redder – http://www.temptalia.com/mac-decorative-lustreglass-review-photos-swatches
Wow, that gloss is gorgeous!! Looks great on you too (I love the whole look in the full face photo). Also really digging this new comment system! 😀
Ah, now that I’m using an Internet Explorer browser, I can see how the comments are supposed to look. Unfortunately, it looks like the coding may not be compatible with the Firefox browser (it’s a mess on there). 🙁 I’ll have to keep that in mind when I visit your blog.
It looks gorgeous, though. I’m not a big gloss person, but I think I might actually have to pickup one of these Bobbi Brown shimmer ones. They are too beautiful to pass up.
Hi Veronica!
I just checked it on Firefox, and it looks exactly the same as it does in Chrome & Internet Explorer. You might be having a cache problem, so you’d need to try shift + refresh or emptying your temporary files for Temptalia.com.
@Christine @ Temptalia Ack, it didn’t even occur to me to try that. I did just do a system restore the other day, so that would have reloaded all the old cache files. Thank you for the suggestion!
Hope that fixes it! If you’re still having problems, would you email shaun[at]temptalia.com and let him know what kind of browser/computer you’re using?
Sure, not a problem. It’s only on my laptop that it’s creating issues, so I’m sure it’s just a cache issue now.
@Christine @ Temptalia Yep – it’s looked great all day for me in Firefox on both Windows and Mac. 🙂
This looks gorgeous! It reminds me a lot of Chanel’s nail polish in Cosmic Violine 🙂
