Bobbi Brown Firefly High Shimmer Lipgloss Review, Photos, Swatches

Bobbi Brown Firefly High Shimmer Lipgloss ($23.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is described as a “gold ivory with opal flecks.” It’s a virtually colorless gloss with warm white and iridescent opal shimmer–looks like a wintry mix of silver, white, and lilac. There’s no real color in the base, just lots and lots of shimmer, but on, it’s definitely apparent you’re wearing something–it’s highly reflective and looks a little pink-ish. MAC She-zam is more silver-shimmered. NARS Luxor is similar in color and sheen, though it is milkier. MAC Frozen Lame has a lot more white shimmer.

Long-time readers will know that this is one of my favorite formulas–it has a ridiculous amount of sparkle and dazzle combined with a non-sticky and comfortable to texture that’s not too thick or too thin.  These glosses typically last a full four hours and sometimes longer on me; Firefly wore for a full four hours, which is noteworthy for a gloss that’s fairly sheer in color.  The shimmer is so high that it’s almost semi-sheer to semi-opaque in color because of the coverage the shimmer yields.  It’s moisturizing, and I like that it doesn’t get sticky over time.  Bobbi Brown’s glosses come with a doe-foot applicator, slightly more gloss than the average gloss, and are mint-scented.

It wore for a full hour? Just one? Goodness gracious. On me, that means it would be gone before I even applied it. Shame, too, because it is so pretty and would be great over a darker lip color to give it sparkle.

This seems like a gorgeous color to put over lipstick, since it’s so sheer. I’m just wondering how this got a 10/10 for pigmentation, considering the base has no color and the shimmer isn’t all that opaque.

I understand that it isn’t an opaque gloss, I was just curious as to how this got a 10, since I remember other sheer glosses, and even more pigmented ones, in this formula got around a 9/10.

(replying to my own comment because the reply button for Christine’s is missing) I don’t think they were uneven, and they had plenty of shimmer 🙂 And I’m not sure where it says that these glosses are supposed to be super sheer?

Yes I know the whole ” if you haven’t got something nice to say…” but Bobbi seems to have become the queen of overpriced, colorless cosmetics. I love fireflies, and this color doesn’t do them justice! Green an blue glittery sparkles in a sheer base would even been more appropriate.

Do you know when this is to be released? I went to several Bobbi Brown counters both at Nordstroms and Saks yesterday and they looked at me funny when I asked for it.

I know I don’t need this and I can just get any sheer, sparkly gloss, but I really like this one. I think it’s the name; I watched Firefly a few years ago.

I think I want this for the name alone (I’m a proud Browncoat) but it’s really pretty, so that helps *g* And I don’t really have a gloss like this. I have some sheer pinks, but nothing quite like this.
