Bite Beauty The Perfect Bite Set Review, Photos, Swatches
Bite Beauty The Perfect Bite Set
Bite Beauty The Perfect Bite Set ($25.00 for 0.20 oz.) includes four miniature-sized Amuse Bouche lipsticks. The shades are housed in a red, metal tin (looks like a mint box to me), and all four shades are part of the permanent range, so you can purchase them individually if only one catches your eye or buy full-size if you finish one, which is nice. The quality is fantastic across all four shades: good color payoff, soft, smooth application, and longer wear.
My husband thinks I’m a bit crazy for purchasing sets that contain items I have reviewed in the past, but experience has taught me that things aren’t always consistent when they are included in palettes or kits. I found noticeable color variance in three of the four shades: Fig is cooler and a bit darker–rosier overall–which I think translates more on the lips than just swatched; Pepper is darker and plummier, it is not as warm-toned; and Honeycomb is slightly rosier, though it is still definitely a warm-toned color. Nori was the only one that was consistent in color, though the formula in the miniature-size was actually a bit smoother and more pigmented to me.

Fig is a slightly muted, medium pink with subtle, warm undertones and a satin finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that applied evenly and smoothly without tugging on the lips. Pepper is a muted, medium-dark rosy plum with warm undertones and a satin finish. The pigmentation was rich and covered the lips with even, smooth color. The texture was lightly creamy but thin, so it didn’t slide around on the lips but was still comfortable to wear. This shade wore well for five hours and was slightly hydrating over time. Honeycomb is a light-medium, peachy beige with warm undertones and a satin finish. It was mostly opaque when applied to the lips, while the consistency had enough creaminess that it did not tug but felt a bit thicker overall. It wore well for four and a half hours on me, but I had some color pull into lip lines after two hours of wear. It was neither drying nor hydrating. Marc Jacobs Beauty No Angel (242) (P, $30.00) is darker (90% similar). Makeup Geek Jetsetter (P, $12.00) is darker (90% similar). Nori is a dark, reddish burgundy with warm undertones and a natural sheen. It was glossiest of the four shades in this particular set. It had opaque color payoff paired with a creamy, light-medium weight feel that glided on with ease and sat well on the lips. I felt like it made my lips appear smoother due to the texture and slip of the shade. It lasted for six and a half hours and was hydrating over time. Maybelline Raging Raisin (DC, $7.49) is lighter, cooler (95% similar). Anastasia #6 (Vol. 1) (PiP, ) is darker (90% similar). Bite Beauty #011 (LE, $36.00) is darker, warmer, glossier (85% similar). Formula Overview
Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick ($26.00 for 0.15 oz.) is supposed to have “bold, creamy color” with “extreme moisture, soft texture, and creamy wear.” The majority of the range is very pigmented–typically opaque with one pass–with a few shades being semi-opaque but usually buildable. All 34 shades are shimmer-free and vary being a soft satin finish to a natural finish (light shine but not glossy). The consistency is very lightly creamy to lightly creamyu with some shades requiring light-medium pressure and can pull the lip a bit when gliding it across the lips, though the color doesn’t appear ragged and the bullet itself doesn’t feel stiff (while other shades applied without tugging, so check individual shade reviews!) The majority of the shades I’ve tested have been lightly hydrating to non-drying and fairly comfortable to wear for the long-haul. They wear longer than average, from four to eight hours, depending on the intensity and propensity of the shade to stain.

All I have to say is that if you’re interested in the shades at all it’s the price of one single lipstick for 3 of the shades for the amount of product and an extra one. 😉
Fig was on my wishlist, so I figure if I go through this mini then it would justify getting the full size later. 😀
I find it interesting to note that the colour shifted slightly on most of them. I probably could not wear Honeycomb at all if it was not slightly cooler.
I should also say I’m glad they all rated the same in terms of performance. That’s always the case with mini from other brands.
I kind of feel like they all shifted a little “cooler” overall, and I thought I was just going crazy until I had them on my hand and started looking – they were very much tonal differences, which in some ways, had a greater impact when applied.
All very pretty, and the set is well worth it, as long as you like the colors! I am glad I bought it and swatched through it.
Aw, man! That really sucks if the colours appear cooler. I have Fig in the luminous creme formula which I find pretty cool on my skin tone, especially now that I’m really tanned. I hoped that the Amuse Bouche version would be warmer since I swatched it in the store when they first came out, and liked it better. My set arrives tomorrow, now I wonder if I should return it. Guess I could gift them individually, which was the ‘original’ plan, ahem.
I’ve only heard great things about the Amuse Bouche range so I’m pretty stoked to see this set for the holiday! It’s a great stocking stuffer or for anyone who’s new to makeup and don’t want to splurge!
Bite’s sets are a great stocking stuffer!
WANT!
🙂
I think it would have been so cool if Bite had also released four minis of their weirder colors from this past summer. Surely a lot of people would have loved a set of Kale, Squid Ink, Taro, and Lavender Jam!
I wish they had done a bold set!
Oh that would’ve been AWESOME!! Many of us don’t wear “weird” colors often enough to drop $ 26 for a full size, and it might go bad before we even make a dent in it, so a mini set of blue/ purples/black/green would’ve been perfect! And it would’ve stood out in a sea of holiday collections. I would’ve grabbed that in a nano second. I hope BITE is reading this.
I am considering this set but still not 100% sure. It’s sitting in my cart lol
What’s keeping you on the fence, Kimmy?
I still haven’t tried the Amuse Bouche lipsticks (because I’m a monster, apparently), but I still get a little heart-eyed every time I see Fig and Pepper. They’re just so pretty!
I totally get your “but what if they’re different” impulses, too. 🙂 Looks like double-checking paid off this time – I love the sound of slightly cooler-toned shades, but that’s just not on.
I mean, if it was $350, then probably not, but for $25, I could justify. I don’t know… it is harder for me to REALLY recommend it if I haven’t at least played with it, even if in theory it should be like the full-size!
That mentality is exactly why we all love you so much, Christine! 😉
I tried to original ones and found that they kind of dragged on my lips. So sadly I’ll have to skip these eventhough all the colors are great and I’ve heard such great things about this brand. plus I have enough similar lipsticks that I like. oh well money saved.
Oh, bummer!
Interesting about some of the color differences! I always look forward to BITE’s holiday sets every year, but Pepper is the only one I want, I have tons of dupes for Nori, Fig and Honeycomb aren’t all that flattering on me. So will skip. But I’m glad these all scored well for those interested. It’s a great, very affordable way to try out their lippies or give as a gift.
I wish they’d done another set or two! I think they could have done a bold one for sure.
The lipsticks in this set are beautiful. I wish we could buy bite in Europe…
I hope that one day they expand to Europe!
Got this one and love it. The colors are nice, small but nice and BiTE is one of my favorite brands. The Amuse line is such a wonderful formula.
Happy you found a good holiday set, Mo! 🙂
I’m not sure I can wear Honeycomb. I hope this isn’t their only holiday set.
We shall see!
I really wanted this set, but I know I would not wear Honeycomb or Nori, so I think I’m going to pass. I also just bought a full-size of this in Sake, and I’m thinking that both Fig and Pepper are kind of similar in color.
They’re definitely giving the same kind of vibe as Sake, I think. Otherwise, if you really like Fig/Pepper, you could split the set with someone (or give the other two as a gift).
I find these little Bite sets addictive. It always seems like such a great deal… I must have at least half a dozen itty bitty bites in a box…
They are! I love that they do these sets, because they’re really good gifts to give as they are usually high quality/consistent (at least in quality!) with their permanent range.
Bite’s Amuse Bouche formula is phenomenal! I already have a full-size Honeycomb (and Chai), so I’m probably not going to get this set. However, after seeing your swatches of Pepper, that will be in my future!
It is a great formula!
I find it interesting that the shades seem to swatch a bit more sheer/patchy-looking than they ended up looking on your lips. Usually, if anything, it’s the other way around!
I actually find that to be consistent with creamier lipsticks – I think the texture of the skin is less forgiving than my lips 🙂
This is so cute. I don’t think I’d wear Honeycomb, though, so I’m using that to trick myself into not buying it.
Darn!
I want this, but I already have Pepper and Fig in the Luminous Creme formula, so even with the slight color differences, I don’t think I can justify. I wonder if they will do any of the dual ended lipsticks in the new Amuse Bouche formula.
It wouldn’t surprise me if they did!
These are very pretty and look great on you, especially Pepper.
Thank you, Betty!
Great post- and thanks for comparing them to their permanent full size versions. Good to know the colors are slightly off. Beautiful swatches as well! 🙂
