Bite Beauty Matte Creme Lip Crayons Reviews, Photos, Swatches (Part 1)
Bite Beauty Blood Orange Matte Creme Lip Crayon
Bite Beauty Matte Creme Lip Crayon ($24.00 for 0.05 oz.) is supposed to be a “moisture-rich, matte-finish lipstick with a delicious citrus scent.” All three shades featured in this review are richly pigmented with a texture that’s moderately creamy but lightweight. They were really comfortable to wear, even though they have more of a matte finish; they don’t feel clingy, and I experienced light to moderate hydration across these shades. The matte finish combined with the pigmentation makes it a long-wearing formula, too. I didn’t have issues with feathering or bleeding, though I’m not prone to either of these. They have a lemony-herbal-y scent to me, which may or may not be appealing to you. The only downside is that the pencil is only 0.05 oz., which is half the size of the average-sized lipstick. I’ll be reviewing the other three shades in the range soon, so stay tuned!
Bite Beauty Blood Orange Matte Creme Lip Crayon is described as an “electric citrus red.” It’s a slightly muted, medium, orange-red with a matte finish. The color coverage was rich, fully opaque, and applied flawlessly–even, smooth color. This shade wore well for six hours and was lightly hydrating during that time. MAC Mangrove (LE, $22.00) is very similar. MAC Dangerous (P, $16.00) is darker. MAC Scarlet Ibis (LE, $16.00) is darker. Hourglass Muse (P, $28.00) is slightly pinker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Bite Beauty Clementine Matte Creme Lip Crayon is described as a “citrus orange.” It’s a brightened, medium orange-red with warm undertones and a satin-matte finish. It had full color coverage, which applied evenly and smoothly. The consistency was creamy, lightweight, and didn’t feel clingy. This shade wore well for six hours and was lightly hydrating. Illamasqua Soaked (P, $26.00) is lighter. Dior Trafalgar (844) (P, $34.00) is redder. MAC Tomango (LE, $16.00) is slightly darker. MAC Neon Orange (LE, $16.00) is similar. MAC Morange (P, $16.00) is similar. Buxom Rogue (P, $21.00) is glossier, redder. Inglot #103 Lipstick Cream (P, $12.00) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Bite Beauty Kumquat Orange Matte Creme Lip Crayon is described as a “pink grapefruit.” It’s a light-medium pink with subtle, cool undertones and a satin-matte finish. It applied with rich, opaque color, which went on smoothly and evenly. This shade wore well for five hours, and it was moderately moisturizing. MAC Happy-Go-Lucky (LE, $16.00) is darker. Illamasqua Luster (P, $26.00) is cooler-toned. Chanel La Diva (44) (P, $34.00) is darker. MAC Silly (LE, $16.00) is warmer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

The colours are beautiful, but the price for the amount you get… not so much.
Totally understand!
I’ve been eyeing these for awhile. Love how matte but not dry looking they are (reminds me of my Wet n Wild mega last lipsticks).
Same here! They’re really comfortable.
So glad that they’ve issued you press samples! I was holding out on these because of a lack of decent reviews. Good to know they’re a solid product. 🙂
I actually bought three, and then after that, I was able to get press samples 🙂
Christine, do you really need to do this to me (and my wallet)?! 😀 I am LOVING Blood Orange and Clementine! Wow. The finish is AMAZE! <3
And, of course, gorg on you!! <3
Aww, thank you!
Sooo excited you’re reviewing these! I’ve been wanting to buy them but was reluctant since I hadn’t seen many reviews or swatches. Guess I’ll be having a Bite Beauty haul here pretty soon! Love Blood Orange and Kumquat.
Have fun haulin’!
Kumquat (funny name) is right up my alley! Love it!
Yay!!
Kumquat is the name of a tiny citrus fruit. My parents have one in their yard, and it makes a really nice jam. Fruit resembles an orange at the size of a cherry tomato, so cute!
I love Bite Beauty’s products, they’re so comfortable to wear. I think one of these matte creme crayons is going to be my next purchase, either in Blood Orange or Satsuma.
Both shades are fun & pretty!
Oooh! Even as an avowed hate of matte on my own lips, these look awesome. Maybe they’re like the Bite “matte” lipsticks I already own that are more of a rich cream. Love this brand– everything I’ve tried by them has been so spectacular.
They’re not super, super flat matte – definitely not like MAC Retro Matte!
You wear orange lipstick so well!! I have heard great things about these!
Thanks, Raechel!
Wow! I am picking up Clementine and Blood Orange! I was skeptical about the formula, crayons usually dont work for me. These are nice! 🙂
I hope these ones work for you, Vineetha!
I love all of these, but if I had to choose just one shade it would be Blood Orange.
It’s a great shade!
I for sure need an orange lipstick for summer!
Everyone should try it at least once!
These look really great on you Christine! Whenever I pop into Sephora, I test these hoping they wouldn’t be too neon looking on me (I’m NC 50). I love Bite’s products. I just recently picked up two Cashmere lip creams after your recent reviews. I bought Sancerre and Burgundy.
Nice picks, JJ! How are you liking them so far?
I absolutely love them! Very pigmented and they wear well.
Love that Blood Orange shade! I’ve yet to try Bite but this one got such a high score from you that it looks like a good one!
It’s a brand worth trying 🙂
I freakin’ love these.. I just received my second pencil in this formula-Blood Orange-earlier this week and it is fabulous. Yay an ‘orange’ I can wear 😀 These look different in your photos than they do on me; appearing much more matte with zero highlight in person and consequently, not as bright. I apply a bit like a lip pencil and then smudge them in and down into lips and maybe that is why they pull more matte. Great formula!
I could see if you apply it that way that it would look more matte!
I am so glad you have started reviewing products from BITE Beauty! I love their lipsticks. Can’t wait to see more. Thanks again!
Sure, no problem!
I want Blood Orange! NOW 😀
If you end up trying, let me know what you think!
I like the look of this formula! And now that sephora ships to the UK, I can actually try these out! Blood Orange looks like a gorgeous colour. And I don’t know if they have one, but a pinky-red in that formula would be nice…
I don’t think there is a pinky-red in this formula, but maybe the High Pigment range or their regular lipstick range…
Hotttttnesss

trust me
Aww! 🙂
I’m so happy to see this brand getting more attention, because I’ve been impressed with everything that I’ve seen from them so far. Blood Orange is one that I’ve been eyeing for quite a while, so I think I may have to grab that one sooner rather than later.
It’s a really lovely shade! I think you could rock it, Kate!
Clementine is so beautiful! Wish this was an easier brand to source in the EU!
Aww! Hopefully they’ll gain popularity and distribution!
Wow, this formula looks great on the lips!
Surprisingly comfortable, too!
LOVE Blood Orange! 🙂
Yay! 🙂
These all look quite nice!
Any favorites?
Do you think kumquat is similar to viva glam nicki 1? Thanks for the swatches
Hey Chanel!
This shade? http://www.temptalia.com/mac-viva-glam-nicki-ricky-review-photos-swatches
VG Nicki 1 is warmer, darker!
I REALLY need to get me some Bite lip products! I am contemplating the new lip gloss set at Sephora (I’m sad I missed out on the last one), but I’m really interested in Bite’s lip sticks.
I think if you want more pigmentation, I’d go for a lipstick!
LOL, I don’t think the people at Bite know what a kumquat looks like – they’re not pink, they’re orange and leaning more toward yellow than red! Lovely product though. Very tempted by Blood Orange.
LOL! It is funny when shades are named after something distinct but aren’t actually similar!
When I think matte, I think M.A.C. Retro Matte… I wouldn’t really classify them as matte. Does the shine go away?
These definitely are not a retro matte kind of product!
Uh oh…I love all of these…a lot
Which is your fave, Miki?
These look GORGEOUS. I’m up to my ears in lip products, but I will definitely be splurging on a holiday set next year!
Maybe just up to your lips in lip products? Ha, ha! ;P
I love Bite products!!
Woohoo!
I love the citrus theme; Clementine looks delectable!
Delectable is a great way to describe the way it looks!
EEP! Bite Beauty popped up on NZSale the other day, and I was so ready to try some things out…but the items were all still priced around $28 a tube (a mega discount for us, LOL, but still…), so I had to sadly say no, given that shipping is still a thing!
Still! These look fabulous, the finish especially 🙂
LOL! Totally understand. Maybe you’ll catch ’em on sale or maybe they occasionally have free shipping? Wishful thinking?
Something about Blood Orange is SO captivating to me. I haven’t been this mesmerized by a shade in a long time.
Oh, wow! 🙂 Might be a winner for you!
I love Blood Orange, Satsuma & Sweety the most. Blood Orange looks Ike a perfect red on me. Your tone wears these differently in an amazing way! Beautiful, Christine! 🙂
Thanks so much! Glad you like yours!
I’ve bought bite beauty lipsticks before and they’ve changed color on me, not sure if anyone else has experienced the same thing. And that kumquat is no where near the color of a kumquat haha!
I haven’t had that problem before or at least not yet!
Not particularly loving any of these shades but the formula seems great! Excited to see the other 3 you’ll be reviewing, hope there’s a hot pink in there!
There is! 🙂
It’s like buying 1/2 of Tom Ford or 1/2 Guerlain lipstick.
Definitely depends on whether you finish lipsticks or not… if you rarely or never do, price matters more!
Blood Orange is gorgeous on you and all three are recommended 😀
Thank you!
How do these compare to the High Pigment Pencils in your opinion?
I don’t think I’ve tried those yet!
Lovely on you! Love the brand but these look amazing.
I might not get them…as they’re so bright…and I have so much in that arena.
But they’re so lovely on you!!!
Aww, thank you! These are definitely on the brighter side.
I have Kumquat, Satsuma and Grape. I love the color, the texture and the feel. I do agree that it’s a small amount of product for the price, but Bite really nailed the formula!
I’m so glad you love it, too, Phyrra!
One order of Blood Orange and Clementine for me, please. 😀
They would look gorgeous on you!
Are these really LE? I’ve seen them at Sephora for a while now.
I sent an email to Bite last week asking, but I never received a replied! They’ve been there for awhile, I agree, though I think maybe 2 months?
Hey Christine!
On the theme of orange lips, what are your favourite orange lip products? …possibly an idea for a top 10 topic? I’m interested in trying out a orange lip for summer, but I don’t know where to turn! Thanks 🙂
I’m actually doing a few top 5s for bright lipsticks soon, and orange is on the list! 🙂
If these were a tad cheaper I’d buy them in every color. Really gorgeous, but the price is just too high. The packaging isn’t special enough and the amount of product isn’t enough to justify $24.
Aww, that sucks! I totally understand though!
So far, so good, review-wise, but none of these three shades appeal to me.
I don’t know whether to hope that I love one of the others, and it’s good (yay, new nice lip thing!), or hope that I don’t like any of them (yay, I get to keep my money!)
I usually hope for the latter… “Oh, when it’s more unique, then I’ll buy!” but usually cave anyway.
How do these compare formula wise to Buxom’s Big and Healthy Full-On Lipsticks? I have a few of them, and while I love them, I want more color varieties.
I don’t think I’ve tried those!
I love these! I grabbed blood orange, sweety and grape as soon as they appeared at my store. They smell amazing, are super pigmented and last a decent amount of time (with the exception of eating). Bite is fab.
Awesome! So glad you’re loving these, too, M!
I have the first one and ugh…I love it. Pulls a little more red on me, but it is the perfect shade for what I picture when I think “blood orange.” (SO PRETENTIOUS IT’S @#%$#@# RED) Kumquat keeps calling my name, but I’m trying to hold off because I wear pink so rarely. 😛
LOL! Blood orange seems to be a thing at the moment, I think!
The color is all over stores right now; my mom and I saw it all over the clothing and shoe lines today while we were walking around the mall. I just can’t take it seriously because when I hear the term “blood orange,” I immediately think of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zT_CTcmsYY
😛
Haha!
I was wondering: how does Blood Orange compares to NARS Heatwave in terms of colour? All shades look gorgeous on you! Thanks!
Unfortunately, I don’t think I have Heatwave! 🙁
Emilia,
I’d say Blood Orange has more of an orange/coral base, while NARS Heat Wave has a stronger, redder undertone. They’re in the same shade family but more like cousins than siblings, y’know?
