Bite Beauty Liquorice & Black Truffle Matte Crème Lip Crayons Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Liquorice
Bite Beauty Liquorice Matte Crème Lip Crayon ($24.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a deep red with neutral-to-warm undertones and a moderate shine. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that applied decently but could have been a little more even–there were areas where the color seemed almost grainy and a little patchy to my eye along with a minor amount of color that sank into my lip lines. The crayon had a moderately emollient, creamy texture that was easy to glide across the lips but a lip liner or lip brush would be recommended for crisper edges. On me, the color lasted for five and a half hours, left a subtle stain behind, and was hydrating.

Bite Beauty Matte Creme Lip Crayon is supposed to be “long-wearing,” hydrating, and pigmented. It’s one of my favorite formulas for really pigmented, long-wearing, comfortable color that is more matte, though I wouldn’t describe them as a true or flat matte. There is a slight shine to them that wears down within an hour or so of wear (as you’d expect for most semi-matte to satin finish lipsticks). They come in a twist-up, large pencil format that makes it fairly easy to get precise edges and even coverage. The formula has a slightly herbal, lemony scent but no discernible taste to me.

Black Truffle
Bite Beauty Black Truffle Matte Crème Lip Crayon ($24.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a deep, blackened purple with subtle, warm undertones and a natural sheen. It had good color payoff in a single layer, though it was not quite opaque. The more emollient texture made it more of a challenge to apply along my inner portion of my lips, where I felt the lipstick just did not adhere as evenly or as nicely as to other areas of my lips. It was, of course, comfortable to use and felt hydrating while worn. This shade stayed on well for five hours but feathered along the edges (which is not something I tend to experience often).

Black truffle is STUNNING. ugh I love it!
It is an intense shade!
I am likin licorice:)
Cool deal 😀
Love the colors, but it’s funny how the name says “matte” but these aren’t matte looking at all!
Yeah, they are not truly flat, matte!
Licorice is gorgeous! I do have MAC Dreaming of You, so I can resist this beauty. For awhile, anyway.
As for Black Truffle, I like the looks of the Amuse Bouche iteration of this shade much more, tbh. Does seem to be a finicky shade to formulate, eh?
It does 🙁
Black truffle is gorgeous!! I need this in my life!
Enjoy, Lunasol!
Love the liquorice shade – so beautiful.
It is!
I love Liquorice. This is my perfect winter lip shade and also my favorite treat so can’t wait for this one!
Oh, nice!
Pretty odd that liquorice matte creme does not have liquorice AB as a dupe. two dupe rule; nice though. Should thank you again for that terrific bold collection from Maybelline. Smoking Red, et al. Started me down the greige street with Gone Greige from that collection. And haven’t looked back…even got Dayle, which looks a lot more putty than Cava-like on me….and usually the purple tone is brought out on me, far more than you. I get a real white base look from it, too. More interesting than pretty. As to the black truffle, the AB does look better, but the Berry Rouge floats my boat best of those dupes.
Sorry, it just didn’t come on my radar when I was looking for dupes since it is glossier by a bit!
As much as I love the feel of the Bite lippies, I only like the matte lip crayon in the color leche. I purchased the AB in Beetroot last winter for the Sephora Vib sale and agonized what felt like a week and the color moved all over my face!!! I looked like a clown and didn’t know it until someone made a not nice comment. The only way I wear it now, is by lining my lips in Nars Palais Royal and then lightly taking the AB in Beetroot and smudging it around my lips so that it is a light stain. Ugh! I really wanted an intense vampy color but it just is not for me, Also, by looking at these matte crayons, they don’t look matte, as someone already commented and they also look like they will move all over as well. I do love the shades though!
Love Liquorice (the lip crayon — despise the candy), but I feel like I probably own a few close-enough dupes.
Hey Christine,
I noticed Train Bleu by NARS isn’t on the list as a dupe. Do you think that is a possible dupe for Black Truffle as well? Even though Train Bleu is matte.
Thanks,
Trang
