I confess to buying the quads. I love PMG. I vant that Midnight Sun palette… Sephora sale might make it more palatable (pun intended)..

I finally did a DNA ancestry test and was rather surprised to find distant Scandinavian heritage in my chart. I’ve been told many times I look Danish. I’ve been to a few Scandinavian countries in my numerous travels over the years, but I would love to do one of those Scandi cruises.. on the bucket list!

I have been seriously thinking about having my DNA done also. I am the family historian and keep a tree on Ancestry.com I was helping my father before his death and got hooked and spent a lot of time researching both sides of my family. My paternal grandmother was adopted when she was about 10 months old and she always said that she was 100% Irish. I know that no one is 100% anything but since she was a bit of a compulsive liar, I am curious just how Irish I am. I know I have a lot of Scandinavian also as my paternal grandfather was first generation American having immigrated from Norway. I think it is fascinating. I was curious, Wednesday, whether you had your test done through Ancestry or some other company?

I did 23andMe. I do not have any information on my paternal side as my mother divorced when I was 3 and we were never allowed contact. I was curious from a health perspective so chose to do both the ancestry and health testing.. I’m planning to follow up with Ancestry.com, but rather annoyed at the subscription requirement whereas 23andMe is just one lump fee.

It is fascinating. I’ve had messages and contact from some distant relatives. Turns out my relatives were also incorrect. I was lead to believe I had some Native Canadian blood, but I do not. I am 99.9% Northern European with heaviest concentration in the U.K. around London followed by, France and Germany. The Scandinavian portion is much smaller, but points to my earlier roots 18th to mid 19th century.

That is so interesting and something I really want to do. I think I would like to have my daughters done also. She is of course, my ancestry plus her father and since he is mostly African American but some American Indian, I think hers would be fascinating. She is likely a “Heinz 57” as we use to say. My ex says that his mother was mostly American Indian (Cherokee) with some African American and his father was African American only. You never know though with African American as there was a lot of different factors in their heritage and most of it is not good. Would you mind telling me roughly how much it costs?
Ancestry frustrates me also but the access to so many records makes it totally worthwhile. I knew my paternal grandmother’s biological parents names as she had a copy of her original birth certificate. But, searching year after year with what little information I had was frustrating. Luckily, about 18 months before my father passed away, I put their names in and up pops a marriage record. With that information I found her father’s family and have successfully tracked them back to the old country which for them was Ireland. Her mother continues to be a mystery. I have both of her parent’s names but still nothing has popped up. You never know when a new record is going to be added and so I search on the name every couple of months. Someday, it will pop up!! I have about 11,000 names in my ancestry counting both sides of my family. The majority I have until their ancestor’s immigrated from the old country. It is really hard to find them back in their native lands. Usually it is because there are so many people with the same surname so you get way too many hits. It is really interesting though. If you decide to explore yours let me know and I can share a couple of things that have helped me and some things to avoid. Hope you’ve had a great weekend.

The 23andMe has different pricing options and I nabbed my kit during Prime days on Amazon (reg $250 CAD.. For $179 CAD for both health, trait and ancestry). I suggest waiting for another sale on Amazon. I think you can get them much cheaper around Black Friday time. 23andMe does not have the databases that Ancestry has and their family tree function is limited and only beta right now.. Very very rudimentary. That’s the key difference. I was much more concerned with medical issues.

Overall, another strong showing for Mother. I am going to get Midnight Sun soon and likely Ritualistic Rose also. I was thinking that Ritualistic Rose was going to be easily dupeable in my collection but it turns out that it isn’t and especially in this formula and finish. I am planning on waiting for the Sephora sale although I am nervous about that decision since last year the palette was sold out from about 5 minutes before the sale went live and didn’t come back until about 2 days after the sale. I guess if it is sold out then it isn’t meant to be!!
