Apres Ski Glow Collection

Becca Apres Ski Glow Collection Eye Lights Palette ($45.00 for 0.35 oz.) includes seven eyeshadows inspired by the brand’s famous powder highlighters, just designed “specifically for the eyes.” I think that one of the strengths of Becca’s Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed highlighters is their texture–that creamy, smooth, and velvety-feel that is almost effortless when it comes to blending and diffusing on the skin. That doesn’t exist in this palette; the textures are dry, powdery, and prone to sheering out. The eyeshadows only adhered decently to the lid with a dampened brush but were barely-there washes when I attempted to use them dry. When I tried using them dry over eyeshadow primer, they were still miserable to work with.

Pearl

Pearl is a pale, white gold with warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had semi-opaque pigmentation with a moderately dusty texture that was prone to sheering out to semi-sheer coverage at best. This shade lasted for four and a half hours on me before fading significantly.

Ingredients

Mica, Talc, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Isostearyl Alcohol, Petrolatum, Silica, Boron Nitride, Nylon-12, HDI/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer, Acrylates Copolymer, Paraffin, Cera Microcristallina (Microcrystalline Wax/Cire Microcristalline), Dimethicone, Magnesium Stearate, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Polyethylene, Polyethylene Terephthalate, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Chlorphenesin, Potassium Sorbate, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Tetrasodium EDTA, Tin Oxide. Rose Quartz

Rose Quartz is a light-medium peachy p ink with warm, golden shimmer and a metallic finish. The consistency was dry and sheered out as soon as I started to blend it out, which reduced its coverage from semi-opaque to a veil of gold (no peach/pink was apparent) when I applied to my lids with a dry brush. I was able to get more out of it using a dampened brush. It lasted for five hours before fading noticeably.

Ingredients

Mica, Talc, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Isostearyl Alcohol, Petrolatum, Silica, Boron Nitride, Nylon-12, HDI/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer, Acrylates Copolymer, Paraffin, Cera Microcristallina (Microcrystalline Wax/Cire Microcristalline), Dimethicone, Magnesium Stearate, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Polyethylene, Polyethylene Terephthalate, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Chlorphenesin, Potassium Sorbate, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Tetrasodium EDTA, Tin Oxide. Moonstone

Moonstone is a light gold with warm, yellow undertones and a metallic sheen. It seemed to have good color payoff initially, but as soon as I started to blend the edges, the drier, powdery texture just sheered out the color to semi-sheer coverage. I noticed that it seemed to “melt” on the lid but fade very quickly (five hours) from there.

Ingredients

Mica, Talc, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Isostearyl Alcohol, Petrolatum, Silica, Boron Nitride, Nylon-12, HDI/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer, Acrylates Copolymer, Paraffin, Cera Microcristallina (Microcrystalline Wax/Cire Microcristalline), Dimethicone, Magnesium Stearate, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Polyethylene, Polyethylene Terephthalate, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Chlorphenesin, Potassium Sorbate, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Tetrasodium EDTA, Tin Oxide. Opal

Opal is a medium gold with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had semi-opaque pigmentation in a single layer, but it was impossible to maintain the coverage as the color did not stick to the skin and sheered out as soon as I started to diffuse the edges. This shade lasted for five hours before fading significantly.

Ingredients

Mica, Talc, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Isostearyl Alcohol, Petrolatum, Silica, Boron Nitride, Nylon-12, HDI/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer, Acrylates Copolymer, Paraffin, Cera Microcristallina (Microcrystalline Wax/Cire Microcristalline), Dimethicone, Magnesium Stearate, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Polyethylene, Polyethylene Terephthalate, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Chlorphenesin, Potassium Sorbate, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Tetrasodium EDTA, Tin Oxide. Topaz

Topaz is a medium-dark gold with warm undertones and a frosted sheen. It had rich pigmentation, and it actually applied better than a lot of other shades as it did not seem to be quite as dry and felt like it had more binder in it, which helped it adhere better to bare skin. The color lasted a bit longer, too, at six and a half hours of wear.

Ingredients

Mica, Talc, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Isostearyl Alcohol, Petrolatum, Silica, Boron Nitride, Nylon-12, HDI/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer, Acrylates Copolymer, Paraffin, Cera Microcristallina (Microcrystalline Wax/Cire Microcristalline), Dimethicone, Magnesium Stearate, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Polyethylene, Polyethylene Terephthalate, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Chlorphenesin, Potassium Sorbate, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Tetrasodium EDTA, Tin Oxide. Toasted Marshmallow

Toasted Marshmallow is a medium, golden brown with a soft, copper pearl. It had sheer color payoff that did not build up and barely adhered to the lid–I could almost blow the powder off my arm! It lasted for three hours on my lids before looking patchy and slightly creased.

Ingredients

Mica, Talc, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Isostearyl Alcohol, Petrolatum, Silica, Boron Nitride, Nylon-12, HDI/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer, Acrylates Copolymer, Paraffin, Cera Microcristallina (Microcrystalline Wax/Cire Microcristalline), Dimethicone, Magnesium Stearate, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Polyethylene, Polyethylene Terephthalate, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Chlorphenesin, Potassium Sorbate, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Tetrasodium EDTA, Tin Oxide. Hot Cocoa

Hot Cocoa is a muted, medium-dark brown with warm, rosy undertones and a satin sheen. It had good pigmentation that applied decently to the lid, but it was harder to blend out as the texture was dry and on the stiffer side. The eyeshadow wore well for five and a half hours on me.

Ingredients

Mica, Talc, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Isostearyl Alcohol, Petrolatum, Silica, Boron Nitride, Nylon-12, HDI/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer, Acrylates Copolymer, Paraffin, Cera Microcristallina (Microcrystalline Wax/Cire Microcristalline), Dimethicone, Magnesium Stearate, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Polyethylene, Polyethylene Terephthalate, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Chlorphenesin, Potassium Sorbate, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Tetrasodium EDTA, Tin Oxide. Yikes. I already knew I wasn’t going to purchase this because it looked so basic and overdone but now your review has sealed the deal. Their quality has gone down a lot lately.

Mariella Avatar

Oh, Becca, you are capable of SO much better. There’s nothing I like about this palette – the roundness (squares and rectangles work best for me in terms of storing them), the large amount of wasted space and the very unexceptional colours. The fact that quality is also so poor is one more thing that keeps me from wanting this.

KatyCT Avatar

I agree. I have decided not to buy any more palettes that aren’t rectangular. Tarte does this all the time and while I love what they make, I can’t afford to store them flat in a drawer. Then what happens it that I put things on top of them and they never see the light of day. I might as well not have them.

Katherine T. Avatar

Yikes, I’m always skeptical when brands tries to turn their highlighter formula into shadows (remember the Hourglass Modernist shadow disaster?), looks like I was right to be wary. And even if this formula was good, IDK, I think I already have dozens of dupes that are better quality and cheaper

Asche Avatar

At first glance, I thought this was a highlighter palette (of their shimmering skin perfectors). It is so strange to me that they took that concept, but turned it into an eyeshadow palette, and then didn’t even execute it well. Oh well, easy pass.

Deborah S. Avatar

When I first saw this I thought it was a highlighter palette and was skeptical then because what skin tone would be able to wear all of these shades. A Temptalia reader corrected me and I was surprised that they would even try to create an e/s palette with the same names and shades as their highlighters. Now to see it review so poorly is quite sad. I could tell from the eye look that you created that they were a bear to work with. Your blending skills, color composition and placement are always exceptional but these shadows just didn’t work. Thank you for your always timely reviews. I would not have purchased this but had it been a good palette it might have worked for someone just starting out in makeup. Too bad.

laurie Avatar

Thanks christine, I was on the fence about this palette. Seems like a similar issue as the palette they did with jaclyn hill. Their ombre palettes are so good, it’s so disappointing that Becca’s palettes are so hit and miss when they obviously have an eyeshadow formula that is quite good.

Taylor Butler Avatar

Question: are the highlighters not safe for eyes? Because I’ve always seen people say they’re great for face and eyes, and have been using mine as eyeshadow since I picked them up!

Taylor Butler Avatar

That’s what I thought! And they look great on the eyes too! I really don’t understand this product, why change the formula at all? Why even make this at all?

Mariella Avatar

Y’know, 10 or so years ago, before I started coming here (and when I had lots less makeup and lots more storage space for it….gee, I wonder if there’s a connection?), I don’t think the packaging would have bothered me and I probably wouldn’t even have noticed it….I’d just look at it and think “Gee, I could use that” or “Nah, those products don’t seem very good” and wouldn’t have thought about the packaging or wasted space at all. So I’ve clearly become more discerning or aware about packaging.

Amy Avatar

Wow. Thank you for your reviews. This palette and the Tarte treasure one were the two I planed to purchase this holiday season. Thanks to your reviews I will definitely be saving myself some money and disappointment.

Kim Avatar

I’d passed on this pallets when I first heard about it having found others I’d rather have. So went it went on sale I decided to pick it up for my sister’s birthday and one for myself as I love the aesthetics of the compact But then I hesitated coming here first to look at the review So thankful as always -somehow missed the review when initially posted here. I will still order one for myself just to depot and use as a compact But I have been saved the embarrassment of gifting such a deplorable set of useless eyeshadow. As always love the content and am so grateful for all your hard work!
