The Star Treatment is Packed with Value and Quality

bareMinerals The Star Treatment Eyeshadow Palette ($40.00 for 0.28 oz.) includes eight eyeshadows:  VIP (gold flecked black), Connoisseur (golden copper), Carte Blanche (icy ivory), Ritzy (shimmering cocoa), Kudos (golden gray), Bragging Rights (shimmering rose gold), Elitist (glistening olive), and Extravagance (golden glow). It also includes a 0.05 oz. (half the size of the full-sized version) of Prime Time Eye Primer.

Each eyeshadow is 0.035 oz., as compared to the average full-sized eyeshadow, which is 0.05 oz. (and bareMinerals’ Ready eyeshadows in the duos and quads are 0.05 oz.). In duos, they’re $20/0.10 oz.; quads are $30/0.17 oz., and 8-pan palettes are $40/0.28 oz.–which breaks out to $200/oz., $176/oz., and $143/oz. I love that they give you a little more as you buy larger palettes. Just to put those prices in context, MAC single eyeshadows are $300/oz., while their duos are $275/oz. and quads are $210/oz.

VIP is a dark black with brown undertones and gold sparkle. It had excellent pigmentation and applied smoothly and evenly. Too Faced Licorice Latte is not quite as dark. Cinderella Cinders is similar. Dior Night Golds is lighter, browner. Tarina Tarantino Dreamy is similar but has a stronger red-tone. Bobbi Brown Black Gold is similar–more shimmer.

Connoisseur is a deep, molten golden-copper. This shade was insanely pigmented; so smooth, buttery, and densely packed with color. bareMinerals Pret-a-Porter is lighter. Inglot #404 is lighter, less coppery. Inglot #430 is yellower, lighter. Dior Aurora is lighter, more orange. While not at all similar in color, MAC Campfire had a similar molten, metallic look and feel.

Carte Blanche is a cool-toned white with a golden shimmer-sheen, which gives it a mostly warm-toned appearance. It had great color payoff and applied very smoothly and evenly. Make Up For Ever #101 is very similar. Bare Minerals One Hit Wonder is less warm-toned–the color is more like the base color without the sheen. Tarina Tarantino Wonderful is warmer, yellower.

Ritzy is a warm bronze brown with a frosted sheen. The pigmentation was incredibly rich, while the texture was soft, dense, and smooth. Urban Decay Deeper is very similar. Urban Decay Snakebite is less warm. Bare Minerals Cognac is lighter. MAC Woodwinked is also lighter. MAC Bronze is comparable–perhaps a bit warmer. Inglot #406 is a touch lighter, more reflective.

Kudos is a pale beige-brown with an olive green shimmer-sheen. It has a really subtle, but cool, duochrome. I was like, “ooh! look!” when I initially swatched it. The first thing it reminded me was Illamasqua Bacterium, which is a nail polish. MAC Jaunty is a bit lighter, no duochrome. Becca Quartz is similar in color without the green sheen. Giorgio Armani #1 Madreperla is similar (again, no sheen).

Bragging Rights is a medium-dark orange-copper with a frosted sheen. The color payoff was nice, while the texture was soft and smooth. Guerlain Calligraphy is a bit more orange and not as coppery. Tarina Tarantino Dreamy is darker. NARS Isolde is similar, a bit darker.

Elitist is a subdued khaki brown with a satiny shimmer-sheen. It had good color payoff and was very, very smooth. This is one of the “cooler” shades in the palette, though it is still on the warm side. MAC Soba is similar but more matte. theBalm Schitoz is more golden. Giorgio Armani #26 is similar–a bit browner. Dior Golden Savannah is warmer, lighter.

Extravagance is a frosted orange-gold. This shade was really soft and buttery in one sense, but it was almost so soft that it became a bit crumbly. This was the only shade I had any problems with; the color payoff was fantastic, but it did have extra fall out during application. Guerlain Turandot is more orange. Milani Gold Dust is noticeably more orange. MAC Sweet & Sour is yellower. Le Metier de Beaute Goldstone is darker, more orange.

There was only one miss, which was Extravagance, and it’s mostly problematic during application, because it had a fair amount of fall out while you apply it.  I recommend lightly tapping off excess product before applying it to the lid and then patting, rather than sweeping, it on to minimize fall out.  I didn’t have trouble with fall out during wear, so after cleaning up initially, I didn’t have to worry about it.  Worth noting and an area for improvement, but it’s a minor infraction.

If you like your colors warm-toned, fairly neutral, and shimmery, this is your palette from start to finish. When I tested out the palette for wear, they wore like iron–full ten hours without fading or creasing without a primer (with a primer, I had the same results). I wish there was one or two more matte finishes in the palette, though, and overall, the palette is a bit dupeable, depending on your stash of course.

This is gorgeous! I have too many “neutral” palettes as it is.. If I could get Connoisseur on its own though, I totally would, its so pretty and unique.

Another great review Christine!

Cel Avatar

That Connoisseur shade is so overwhelmingly beautiful! I wish I could get in as a single because the other shades are, as you said, fairly dupeable.

Yellowlantern Avatar

Have you tried the Prime Time? Do you like it?

What a gorgeous neutral palette! I’m pretty much covered with my Naked 2, but this is a lovely option for people looking for a good neutral palette.

Yellowlantern Avatar

Oh okay, when you said you tested with primer in the post I wasn’t sure if you meant Prime Time or the NARS one you usually use. πŸ™‚

blueraccoon Avatar

I really, really like this. It’s a bit warm-toned for me but I think it could still work. Maybe during the VIB sale I’ll pick it up πŸ™‚

Wilcoa Avatar

That is one of the most beautiful palettes I’ve seen in a long time… so glad I didn’t get a MAC holiday palette, so I can splurge on this now πŸ˜€

xamyx Avatar

When I saw the swatches, I immediately wanted it; then I realized I’d really only wear about half of them, and they’re shades I have multiple dupes of, already. I’ve come to the conclusion I really do have too many neutrals, LOL.

Lauren Avatar

I ended up purchasing this and The Finer Things almost immediately after we released it at the boutique I work at. I couldn’t believe the pigmentation of these 8.0’s!!! I’ve been selling it to nearly everybody who wants a new look for Holiday, since you can get so many different looks out of it!! I do with they included more satiny finishes as opposed to almost all metallics, that way I could use all of the colors in the palette! I hope you’re going to review The Finer Things as well?!

Cat Avatar

Love this palette. I picked up a duo from bareMinerals a while ago based on the reviews here and these are definitely some of my favorite eyeshadows! I hope you also review The Finer Things palette as well!

Mariella Avatar

Christine, is there much overlap/similarity between this palette and the Rare Find quad you used for the look you posted most recently in “What we’re wearing”? This palette looks to be a good value and a few of the shades seem close enough to the colours in Rare Find that having both would be unnecessary.

Liz Avatar

I’m going to pass, but it looks nice. Between the Naked palette and a few other shadows, I’m covered when it comes to nuetral shades. The look you created with the palette is really beautiful, Christine.

I really love neutrals since I wear them so often for work days.

This palette has pretty shades, but I think I have *too* many neutrals now and these seem very dupeable.

I am SO annoyed. I just got back from Sephora with my 20% off voucher and they were out of almost EVERYTHING I wanted, including their own Dark Taupe fat liner/shadow pencil (tons of ever other colour) and also THIS palette. They had the display for it and everything, with “The Start Treatment” printed on it and a photo of the palette but NO PALETTES and they hadn’t even received them yet! They had put The September Issue in its place. I DON’T WANT The September issue. I’m going to call the new Sephora that is opening TOMORROW nearer to my home to see if they have it or at least if they have the Sephora pencil. So infuriating. They were out of the Tarina Tarantino pencil I wanted (of course, they had EVERY OTHER colour, all 40% off!) but I soothed my annoyance by getting the “Emerald Pretty” palette for 40% off less another 20%. How could I possibly pass up a deal like that? But I really want this Star Treatment palette now!

Mariella Avatar

Got it!!! Snagged it today at the newly opened Sephora. Glad I ran into a SA who used to be at the other store. She had them look for the palette for me as it wasn’t out. They had it in the back, waiting for the special display to arrive. So I have it and I absolutely love it already – talk about “love at first sight”. Planning to wear it tomorrow for my daughter’s engagement party.

I was in Sephora carrying this around for 3 hours and finally decided that it’d be one of my biggest regrets if I chose to exercise my will power.
I am in love with this palette. I mainly bought it for Bragging Rights which is a gorgeous pink color and a bit less orange than the swatch above, and for Connoisseur, which I couldn’t find a dupe for in all of Sephora. VIP & Carte Blanche are lovely and I’m happy they were included in this palette for a brow highlight & a liner! I can grab this for a trip instead of lugging around two or singles and my Naked with my other makeup. Absolutely in love, the colors are gorgeous, very versatile, the size of the palette is great, so excited to use this! πŸ™‚

Cami Avatar

Christine, do you think Connoisseur is anything like MAC Goldmine? I’d love this whole palette but I can’t seem to find it in stock anywhere πŸ™

Also, have you done a review of “bareMinerals READYβ„’ Eyeshadow 8.0 – The Playlist”? I couldn’t find it on here when I did a search. Thanks!

Cami Avatar

EDIT: I meant to say I couldn’t find “The Playlist” palette in stock anywhere! I’ve been able to find “The Star Treatment” just fine πŸ™‚

Jacqui Avatar

Connoisseur is a dupe for the mufe metal powder in number 2 -maize gold. I was about to pick up this palette today just for connoisseur but then I realized I had the metal powder and didn’t. It’s such a beautiful palette though πŸ™‚

caitlin Avatar

christine- just wanted to tell you thanks sooo much for recommending this palette! i was an urban decay girl through and through but thought connoisseur looked too amazing to pass up, so i just bought this and i’m completely in love!!! the quality is the possibly the best i have ever tried and the colors are stunning. i will be checking out more bare shadows asap!

Cat G Avatar

Based on this review, I put this on my wishlist and my mom gave it to me this morning for Christmas. When I unwrapped it, I couldn’t wait to finally open it and gape at its beauty in person!! I LOOOOOOVE IT. I am absolutely stoked to wear it for my Christmas makeup look tonight when my whole family is coming over for dinner and more present giving!! Thanks so much Christine~!

Adele Avatar

Bought this as per your recommendation, Bare Minerals has been so damn impressive I would have never thought to take a second look! I really love that they’re grounded in quality products rather than gimmicky packaging πŸ˜›

Kristyn Avatar

I’m not exactly sure how I stumbled across your blog, but I’m so glad that I did! Thanks to you, I was just convinced to buy this palette on bareMinerals website and I couldn’t be more excited! I find myself coming here at least once a day to get good quality pictures and descriptions of items I want to purchase, so thank you for your awesome reviews and swatches. . πŸ™‚

Jade Avatar

There is ONE of these left at my local counter, and I keep looking at it! Should I buy it? I can’t make up my mind! I feel like IF it’s there tomorrow… I’ll get it.

Tamara Avatar

Get it! I just bought mine on sale from the Sephora inside JCpenny. So excited because once its gone, its gone. I wanted to buy it a while ago and it sold out online so I thought it was gone forever, and now I have it AND I only paid $25 bucks. YESSS!!!

Gracie Avatar

This palette is now being sold under “last chance” on BE’s website for only $25.00! Plus, they are offering free shipping with code FREESHIP through Sunday, 2/3. Just ordered my palette and can’t wait to receive it! πŸ™‚
