Anna Sui x Minnie Mouse Rock Song Makeup Kit Review, Photos, Swatches
Anna Sui x Minnie Mouse Rock Song Makeup Kit
Anna Sui x Minnie Mouse Rock Song Makeup Kit ($50.00 for 0.24 oz.) includes three eyeshadows (0.10 oz. total) and a full-sized lipstick (0.14 oz.). The eyeshadows are housed within a bow-shaped, red-hued palette with black detailing, with a dual-ended applicator (sponge-tipped and brush)–you might think it’s four, but the silver shade is just repeated. The lipstick is full-sized and comes in a decorated, round tube with the lipstick bullet in the shape of Minnie Mouse (more or less). The lipstick was the best part of the set, and the eyeshadows were just so-so; the colors are, of course, very basic so many will have similar shades in their stash, but the color payoff was more semi-sheer to semi-opaque than richly pigmented. The three-way split pan is also rather small, and an eyeshadow brush (like MAC’s 239) just barely fits within. The tin, though, is nice, and it’s roomy and easily reused for whatever you desire. I was worried that while the aesthetic was appealing that the actual products wouldn’t be quite as impressive, and unfortunately, that was the case.
Pearl White is a pale white with a soft, frosted finish–almost cool-toned but not quite. It had decent color payoff, and the texture was soft but a little powdery. This is a staple shade, so there are a lot of really, really similar shades — see comparison swatches.
Ice Silver is a light-medium silver gray with a soft, frosted finish. It was sheer, and the texture could have been a little silkier–it felt a bit dry or stiff. There are plenty of similar shades to this one, but I will note that it is the softer frost that makes this slightly different as many silvers run frosted/metallic. Sleek MakeUP Pretty in Paris (LE, $9.99) is more metallic. Kat Von D Holy Bible (LE) is lighter. Giorgio Armani Silver Chafer (35) (LE, $33.00) is darker. Too Faced Jailbird (LE) is darker. NARS Ramatuelle #1 (LE, $24.00) is similar. MAC White as Snow (LE, $32.50) is more sparkly. Guerlain Les Aquas #4 (P) is similar. See comparison swatches.
Diamond Blue is a medium blackened blue with medium-dark blue micro-sparkle. The texture of this one was drier, somewhat stiff, and the resulting color payoff showed that–as it was semi-opaque but noticeably more muted/softer than as it appeared in the pan. Applied, it looks mostly black (as this type of finish often loses its shimmer when applied!). Too Faced Starry Night (LE) is darker. Kat Von D Oddfellow (LE) is also darker. Marc Jacobs Beauty The Mod #2 (P) is similar. Sugarpill Stella (P, $12.00) is darker. See comparison swatches.
Minnie Mouse (01) is a brightened, orange-red with warm undertones and a lightly luminous sheen. It reads a lot like a poppy red. The texture of the lipstick was creamy and lightweight, while the formula was comfortable wear, lasted for five and a half hours (plus a stain), and was lightly hydrating. It was mostly opaque, but it had a translucency that gave it a very lightweight look–not like a heavy, opaque cream–though it entirely covered my lip freckle! MAC Night to Remember (LE, $15.00) is similar. NARS Mysterious Red (LE, $25.00) is more matte. Maybelline Infra-red (LE, $7.49) is redder, brighter. MAC Must Be Red (LE, $15.00) is similar. MAC Cockney (P, $15.00) is a touch darker. Guerlain Genna (LE, $49.50) is slightly more orange. See comparison swatches.

Sheerness strikes again. >_< This is why i'm hesitant in buying her makeup. Makeup tools on the other hand I'm game. lol
my little girls would love this! but i will not be buying $50 makeup for a 4 and 7 year old…i do have my limits:)
I thought the same, LOL! $25, or so, I would have strongly considered it, but definitely not at $50. My 7-year-old is really into Minnie Mouse, but fortunately I’ve recently come across some items at Target for around $5 each (I think Bonne Bell put them out), as well as Disney Store, which has kid-friendly Minnie Mouse makeup on occasion for under $10. My daughter actually asked for makeup this Christmas, so I’ll likely indulge.
Wish the lipsticks were sold separately out of these kits. I wasn’t crazy about the eyeshadow color combos to begin with that were in these, and now that I know they aren’t so great, not worth it to buy it just for the lipstick.
This eyeshadow trio is very basic, so most will have something like it unfortunately!
I so miss the days when Sephora carried Anna Sui. Most gorgeous packaging ever, and great lip products.
What are your favorite Anna Sui products, Cindy? I think this is the first time I’ve tried the brand… at the very least, first time in probably five years!
Honestly, it’s been so long the lipstick is the only thing I can remember. I still have my Anna Sui lip gloss ring. It’s a lovely black rose, and I’ve since refilled it with another brand of lip color. But the “gloss” it was originally filled with was a perfect true red, more of a sheer creamy lipstick than a gloss, and it had great staying power for a shelter product.
*sheerer
I like her makeup too. I have a couple if really nice sheer lipsticks and i like the loose powder. In Japan I bought a loose sparkly powder that comes in a very nifty travel friendly compact ( with some kind of rubber cover over the powder), but I find it a bit tricky to get the powder out. I haven’t seen that product for sale in the USA though.
Her hair brush is the best I have ever used. It’s a mix or plastic and natural bristles, and it does magical things with my very thick, very long hair. Plus it’s pretty! I’m actually giving it as Xmas presents this year.
I sure would buy this lipstick if it were sold by itself. But I don”t think I could ever use it… Sooooo cute!
It would be awesome if the lipsticks were sold separately!
It’s a shame, too, because I don’t think this shade has a companion in the main line. The closest is probably 401, which is a blue-based red, while 601 is a muted orange with no red in it.
How could you bring yourself to use the lipstick? It’s too cute. I’m kind of bummed they repeated the silver eyeshadow. That seems dumb to me.
Thanks for posting these Christine, I wanted so much to love these, but I don’t think I’ll be getting them. Based on your swatches and your review, the colours just don’t seem pigmented enough. I haven’t seen if you’ve reviewed the nail polishes but I’m curious to see what the pigmentation on those are!
I have them to review, and I was going to, but three of the five are “coming soon,” so I didn’t want to post yet!
Sheerness is pretty common for Japanese makeup brands, that and glitter overload. It totally sucks because their formulas are great, just really bad colour payoff.
Yeah, I thought about that, though it doesn’t excuse the dryness!
The lipstick design is so cool, but the rest of it does not make this worth the price-point.
Wish I could just get the lipstick because t’s adorable and so pretty, but the rest is super disappointing.
I went gaga for the packaging but wasn’t sure if I was ready to fork out $50 :-s But I have to admit, that Minnie lipstick looks gorgeous, definitely a minnie-kind of red ^^. I’m not a big fan on the eyeshadows though and I also wish they’ve sold the products separately. Would you be reviewing the purple version?
Thanks!
x Donah
Sorry, I don’t have the purple set!
I just want the box! And maybe the lipstick because the shape and packaging is super cute.
Hi Christine!
I was wondering, my comment is unrelated to this particular item, but are you going to/plan to review Em cosmetics? I find your reviews so informative and helpful and I believe that many would love for you to review them since they are such a new brand!
Hey Raven!
I don’t have anything planned right now!
Looks lovely and the detailed swatches are really good! Sadly out of my price range though 🙁 x
The palette looks really cheap, too. Like something you could get at a worse quality dollar store…
i would just love to purchase the packaging and the lipstick separately…I’m a big disney but thank goodness I didn’t purchase this …Thanks for the review!
I’ve never exactly understood the appeal of Anna Sui products, the brand’s entire aesthetic always seems a bit kiddy for that price point, and this doesn’t really change my mind, though the lipstick is a nice colour. I guess I’m just not easily won over by ‘cute’.
I don’t understand why they split the silver eyeshadow (why not half a pan of each? Or three small pans?). Is the lipstick hard to apply because of the shape?
Thank you for reviewing this! It’s so rare to see Anna Sui reviews, especially for her limited edition sets. I’ve never tried her eyeshadow as I don’t really wear it myself, but I do love her lipsticks, blushes, and foundations. I’m glad the Minnie lipstick is the quality of her normal line. I do personally find that her make up line suits drier skin types and climates, though.
This makes me sad, as it’s adorable. I picked up two of the Minnie Mouse nail polishes… and the wear time is AWFUL. A few hours later my manicure looked like I had been wearing it all week. Sad.
The palette is a total miss but the lipstick is ridiculously adorable!
Oooooh, the lippy is adorable and I kept sending you some vibes not to swatch it :p I’m not crazy about the shadows but the packaging is gorgeous. At a lower price point I might have purchased this for the artistic quality to it. Thanks as always Christine…you are my go to blog for info. What am I going to do this next week while I’m away??? Going to visit with mom and she is still of the dial up age :0
Thank you so much, Christine!
Aww, well, one, you can enjoy your mom’s company, and when you come back, you’ll have plenty to catch up on! 🙂
Lol, if she doesn’t drive me bonkers first 😉
I love the packaging. The molded Minnie on the lipstick is super cute, too, but won’t look cute for long as you use it.
