FORMULA OVERVIEW | Anastasia Eyeshadow ($12.00 for 0.06 oz.) is supPosed to be a “finely-milled, highly-pigmented” powder eyeshadow. The brand has a large range of individual eyeshadows that are available as pan-only (no compact to hold them); if you purchase four, you’ll get a 4-well palette for $40 ($10 per eyeshadow), or purchase eight and get an 8-well palette for $70 ($8.75 per eyeshadow). The palettes are thick cardboard palettes with tabs on the side for easy removal/rearranging. There are several different finishes, and the performance can be better or worse depending on the finish, though it also ranges from shade to shade. On average, the formula is semi-opaque to opaque, lightly dusty to buttery, wears seven to nine hours, and is fairly blendable. The Metallic and Titanium finishes seem to be the best-performing to me, but there are some really standout mattes and shimmers as well. I have not tried the sparkle, satin, or velvet finishes as extensively as the other finishes, personally.

I’m surprised that Birkin performed so badly, especially when it’s similar in tone to two of the other shades! Also Anastasia shades have been pretty good across the board in this series of standalone pans.
They have some good ones in the permanent line-up!
I was going to get Birkin to replace my go-to Mac Soft Brown. I can scratch that off the list, now. Thanks.
Aw, rats! Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!
I like those swatches for Metallic and Suede. That second eye look you put together is also very pretty!
Thanks, Chris!
I love all of these. Great looks! Imho the ones not as good are still outperforming MAC. ABH did well. My favorite powder shadows.
I think MAC’s permanent range has some great shades, but their LE palettes are usually where they miss 🙂
100% agree. If a formula works:keep it! lol. I’ll always love MAC. Old MAC. The good permanent trued and true. Now it’s so hit and miss. My excitement went down. I feel ColourPop is starting to pull a MAC. I propose a solid permanent line, info and warning about formula change, and 100% quality. By now there’s no excuse. I should say I’ve found ABH replaces colors where needed. Those work well for me. Some MUG too. 🙂
Well, I’m glad Anastasia allows you to create custom palettes with this, because you can skip all the poor performing shadows and just go for the good ones
True!
Hi Katherine! That’s exactly what I do! It’s liberating to choose. Knowing you’ll love what you order. I do! I buy direct from ABH for better color selection and newly released ones. Loving them! Made a valentine quad for a friend with shades I love, own, she’ll like. Aubergine, Plum Smoke, Macaroon, Chocolate Crumble. Pretty!
Oh pretty! I was planning to treat myself to an ABH quad too for Valentines, some chocolate browns and pinks 🙂
Awesome! 😀 I just put hers together. Those 4 together ? Look beautiful in the quad. Chocolate Crumble is a surprise mauve violet tone with rose gold in a bronzey brown buttery smooth color. Goes well with the other 3! Out of mine I trust remembering when she’s complimented me I chose them. They came in fast safe no problems. Easy. Impressed. Happy Valentine’s Day! ❤️
Because of seeing that Gem is a super close dupe of MAC Lorelei, of which I missed out on, I need that one in particular! Also loving the silky look of Suede, too. It’s just right as an inner corner shade.
Birken looks *blech* awful. Especially bad because this is an easy shade to get right! It’s all good because I have MAC Soft Brown.
The two golds are gorgeous, but gold is a shade I have plenty of : UD Blitz, MAC Vicuna, CP Cheap Date, etc.
It would have been great if Birkin had panned out!
Yikes, Birkin is bad. I would have thought that would be hard shade to mess up.
Same here, Rachel!
Birkin does look questionable.
Generally a really good range of colours (apart from Birkin), and the golds are gorgeous.
Lovely eye looks you have created Christine.
Birkin is pretty much textbook for how NOT to make an eyeshadow, yikes! Wonder what happened there, as it’s not usually a difficult colour type – well, look at Gem! Strange.
Gem and Metallic are very pretty.
Even though they didn’t all get great reviews your looks still turned out nice!
