Anastasia Aubergine Eyeshadow
Anastasia Aubergine Eyeshadow ($12.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark plum with warm, reddish-brown undertones and a sprinkling of plum and purple sparkle over a semi-matte finish. It had good pigmentation with a soft, blendable texture that wasn’t too firm or too soft, so it didn’t kick up excess product was still easy to use. This shade wore well for eight hours on me. Anastasia Fudge Eyeshadow ($12.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a medium-dark, rich brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. It was intensely pigmented with a really smooth, silky consistency that was denser than the average matte eyeshadow from the brand. It blended out beautifully on the lid without losing its intensity or depth. On me, this shade lasted for eight and a half hours before fading noticeably. ColourPop No Bounds (LE, $4.50) is darker, cooler (95% similar). Laura Mercier Truffle (PiP, $23.00) is lighter (90% similar). ColourPop Programming (LE, $4.50) is darker (95% similar). Anastasia Henna Eyeshadow ($12.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a bright, medium-dark copper with warm undertones and a metallic finish. It was incredibly dense and pigmented, which made it a little harder to get on a fluffier eyeshadow brush (you may want to use something flatter or firmer, possibly a synthetic brush). The texture was cream-like and buttery, and the color adhered exceptionally well to bare skin. It lasted for almost ten hours on me. Coloured Raine Downtown (DC, $6.99) is lighter (95% similar). ColourPop White Rabbit (PiP, $6.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Huda Beauty Trust Fund (LE, ) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). MAC Brash (LE, $17.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Anastasia Intense Gaze Eyeshadow ($12.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a slightly muted, medium-dark reddish-copper with warm undertones and a frosted sheen. The texture was soft, blendable, but it was a little dusty and thin, so I found the wear to be shorter at seven and a half hours. It had good pigmentation, though! Huda Beauty Mauve #2 (PiP, ) is more shimmery, brighter, cooler (90% similar). Clarins Nude #2 (PiP, ) is less shimmery, darker (95% similar). Viseart Nuance #5 (PiP, ) is lighter (95% similar). Anastasia Party Dress Eyeshadow ($12.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a soft, light-medium peachy brown with warm undertones and fine gold sparkle over a satin finish. The sparkle got everywhere, and the sparkly bits didn’t bind with the base at all. It had decent pigmentation otherwise, and it blended out well, but it was just fall out city! After I cleaned up the initial fall out from application, there was little sparkle left and the eyeshadow lasted for seven hours. Anastasia Spoiled (LE, $12.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Anastasia Sherbert (LE, $12.00) is darker (90% similar). NARS Nepal (P, $19.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). ColourPop Just a Sip (LE, $6.00) is darker, brighter (85% similar). Make Up For Ever S710 Peach (DC, $21.00) is less shimmery, darker (85% similar). bareMinerals Peace (P, ) is lighter (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
FORMULA OVERVIEW | Anastasia Eyeshadow ($12.00 for 0.06 oz.) is supposed to be a “finely-milled, highly-pigmented” powder eyeshadow. The brand has a large range of individual eyeshadows that are available as pan-only (no compact to hold them); if you purchase four, you’ll get a 4-well palette for $40 ($10 per eyeshadow), or purchase eight and get an 8-well palette for $70 ($8.75 per eyeshadow). The palettes are thick cardboard palettes with tabs on the side for easy removal/rearranging. There are several different finishes, and the performance can be better or worse depending on the finish, though it also ranges from shade to shade. On average, the formula is semi-opaque to opaque, lightly dusty to buttery, wears seven to nine hours, and is fairly blendable. The Metallic and Titanium finishes seem to be the best-performing to me, but there are some really standout mattes and shimmers as well. I have not tried the sparkle, satin, or velvet finishes as extensively as the other finishes, personally.

I’ve never noticed before that the “freshness” icon (not sure what it’s actually called?) on these is only 6 months! The thought of having to replace all of my eyeshadows every six months makes my wallet hurt LOL
LOL! You’d be surprised at how many products have a 6-month timer on them (technically).
These looks are just gorgeous. Colorful, refined, true artistry. You should model for Anastasia. Everyone would buy these! I like that they posted the ingredient Carmine prominently, as it is such a potent allergen. Not every company notes common allergens, but they should. If you touch a tester and then your eye, you could be too inflamed to see the fine print on many brand’s ingredients list. I know a few of your readers have complained about Carmine allergies. Thanks for always including pix of ingredient list.
My pleasure, KJH! 🙂
Ooooh I really like these! Especially Henna and Aubergine!
They’re nice!
Fudge and Henna are perfection. I don’t have any eyeshadows from Anastasia, but those two are now on my wishlist!
Nice 😀
Oooh… Aubergine and Henna are definitely going on my list to buy. I love the eye looks you did Christine!
Thanks a lot, Aj! 🙂
Wow, how gorgeous is Henna??
It is pretty!
I guess “cruelty free” doesn’t extend to poor old cochineal scale bugs!
You should look for the term vegan if that is a concern, Susan!
Urban Decay is vegan..
If you look Urban Decay’s policies, not all of their products are vegan: http://www.urbandecay.com/commitments/commitments.html.
Wow, these colors are gorgeous! Love your eye looks. Christine, how many more of these shadows do you have to review? If you have more, I was going to wait until you finish reviewing before deciding to buy
I don’t know how many more, but I do have a few more to go. I know the next batch is less impressive, though. The newer shades made me revisit ABH in the first place, because I wasn’t over the moon with the 16 I initially bought when they came out with singles.
Christine, that stunning molten copper look you did has me inspired! And considering how gloomy and rainy it’s been these past 5 days running, a warm, toasty eye look like this may bring about the cheer factor!
As for these ABH eyeshadows, AGAIN they are winning my interest more and more. High quality, decent price, beautiful colors. I like!!!
Haha! Hope you enjoyed the sunshine we had today!!
Henna just made me want to cry rainbows. What a stunning molten copper.
lol!
These are so beautiful, especially Henna!
They are!
Henna has to go on my wishlist. I love Aubergine and Fudge (I have palette versions). It seems Party Dress shouldn’t have been hard to get right, but apparently I’m wrong.
LOL! Kind of like Lace from the other day – who would have thought the beige would be the problem child?
Beautiful eye looks! I’m loving Henna! But, I am just swimming in shadows. One day I will sit down and order those singles form MUG and now ABH that are on my perpetual wish list!
Thanks a lot, Nicole! 🙂
Totally understand!
Thank you for the swatches. I have a lot of similar MUFE Artist’s Shadow colors, although I don’t have Ash Plum, the dupe for Aubergine. Hmmmm…. And your eye looks are beautiful!
My pleasure, Mary! 🙂
Got Ash Plum and love it, in a trio. They’re pricey as singles, but put it in your next trio! Idk why They put out a magnetized palette, when the price incentive is to go trio in plastic.
Beautiful eye look, Christine!
Thanks, Rachel!
I feel like Henna should have been the one called Intense Gaze.
Missed opportunity, I guess!
WoW!!! Please do a tutorial on the macaroon + henna eye look. Its stunning
Everything should be listed there! No special technique, same ol’ same ol’ 🙂
Aubergine, Henna, and Intense Gaze look so pretty, even if they’re shades I personally wouldn’t wear all that often. It would be wonderful if the formula was more consistent, because there are several shades that I would like to try, and I’ll just have to take a gamble to do so. I wish that Nordstrom, ULTA, or Sephora carried these!
I hear you! Fudge is AMAZING, but not all of ABH’s mattes are even remotely as good 🙁
Exactly what I was thinking. It would be hard to know which to pick (for quality purposes) without having Christine’s review of every single one of these! It really would be a gamble. Especially when they screw up beige but do gorgeous dark mattes…bizarre!
Whilst these colours are not for me, I can appreciate how lovely they are. Henna is beautiful. And I love your eye looks Christine – they are fabulous.
Thank you, Genevieve! I had a lot of fun using these.
I wasn’t interested until I saw that multicolored sparkle in Aubergine. Does it translate into the lid, Christine?
The shimmer is on the lid, but it is very fine so unless you’re using a magnifying glass, I don’t think you would really notice it.
Has anyone tried both the palettes and the singles? Is the quality the same?
It really depends on the shade/palette!
Thanks. I’m considering purchasing some shadows, it’s one of the brands I’ve never tried. The singles get such great reviews, I prefer palettes since I have so many shadows a smaller assortment is better for me, plus the cost is usually less, but not if they are inferior which is the case in some brands.
Aubergine is beautiful!
It is!
Henna is just gorgeous! I wasn’t familiar with that shade but I’m assuming it was in a previous palette? Fudge and Intense Gaze are already two of my favorites.
I can’t remember if Henna was in something else or not!
Henna and Fudge are calling my name…
Both are great picks and would work together!
