MAC Temperature Rising Eyeshadow Quad
MAC Temperature Rising Eyeshadow Quad ($44.00 for 0.19 oz.) includes these shades: Performance Art (frosted gold mauve, Veluxe Pearl)), Temperature Rising (light warm tanned peach, Lustre), Swelter (mid-tone grey violet, Frost), and Beautymarked (charcoal black with red pearl, Velvet). Beautymarked is part of the permanent range. The quad will be available online on May 16th and in-stores May 23rd (of course, it usually is online earlier than the stated date). It is packaged in a matte bronze with a rubbery texture–if you’re familiar with NARS’ packaging, it’s very much like that, only bronze in color.
Performance Art is is a pinky mauve with a dusting of very fine gold shimmer. It had good color payoff and applied smooth overall, though it was a smidgen dry. MAC Smoky Mauve is purpler and darker. Jasmine Carpet is darker and purpler. Tarte Frozen Hot Chocolate is slightly darker. NARS 413 BLKR #1 appears cooler-toned. Wet ‘n’ Wild We’re Blasting Off #3 is cooler-toned.
Temperature Rising is copper-shimmered peach with a soft, frosted sheen. It was very stiff to work with, and it really needed to be layered and packed on to get visible, even color both swatched and on the eye. Estee Lauder Pink Zinc is lighter (and a cream product). Chanel Complice is lighter. MAC Seaside is more coppery. Chanel Emerveille is a cream product and is less coppery. MAC Expensive Pink is pinker, darker.
Swelter is a muted, medium-dark purple with subtle red undertones and a satiny sheen. It had decent to good color payoff, but it was a little stiff to work with. When I jabbed at it with a stiffer brush, I was able to get better color payoff. MAC Smoky Mauve is more frosted. Jasmine Carpet is very similar. NARS 413 BLKR #1 is grayer, cooler-toned. MAC Circa Plum is extremely similar.
Beautymarked is a blackened brown with burgundy and copper micro-shimmer. It was dry, somewhat chalky, and generally stiff and difficult to blend. Applied, it looks mostly like a matte black, but if you mix it or blend it with Swelter, you can bring out more of the shimmer in Beautymarked. Giorgio Armani #2 is similar in concept but has a much more pronounced shimmer/sparkle. L’Oreal Smoldering Plum is purpler. MAC Young Punk has more purple shimmer.
The real miss here was Beautymarked, which had a rather undesirable texture that made it a problematic shade to use. It’s also the kind of shade that looks incredibly complex in the pan but when used, it can be difficult to pull out those nuances and see the complexities. Performance Art was the best eyeshadow in this quad, because it had good pigmentation and a softer, smoother texture and application. Temperature Rising needs to be packed on for a smooth, even application. I wish it performed better overall, because the color combination works well together and would flatter a variety of skin tones. The eyeshadows did wear for eight hours with no creasing and only very minor fading with minor fading occurring after nine hours.

I can´t believe that of all the good eyeshadows MAC chooses to put the disgusting Beautymarked in a quad…
This quad is definitely nicer than I expected. I think I still prefer the other one from this collection.
Nice look you’ve done with this quad but there’s really nothing special here and, once again, I’m reminded by how drawn I always am to Beauty Marked for how it looks in the pan at the Mac counter. I never buy it though, because it just doesn’t “deliver” on the eye the way it looks in the pan.
Beautymarked looks so gorgeous in the pan! It’s too bad that beautiful color doesn’t translate.
I really like this quad but I’m going to make myself resist buying it because the shades are so up my alley that I probably have a ton of really similar shades. It’s so hard to resist, though!
I wish this quad performed better too, the shades look good together and can be used to create a lovely, smokey look. Money saved, I guess.
I’m always drawn to the way Beauty Marked looks in the pan. Unfortunately it swatches completely differently and is IMO on of MAC’s worst eyeshadows.

I was looking forward to this review as I was attracted to this particular palette. Performance Art and Swelter are really very pretty and my kinda shadows.. but I do not want to take a swing for this while having no interest in the other two shadows. I actually had beautymarked in my collection, albeit very briefly, and gave it away. I had no love for it. Your suggested dupe of Armani ETK #2 is miles and miles beyond beautymarked and one of my all time favourites from that line. It seriously kicks a$$.
I know, once you have the #2 ETK, you’re pretty much covered. It’s so full of awesome.
That last one – beautymarked – threw me for a loop! I thought it would be a totally different color. I think it’ll be a long time before I buy anything from MAC again, they’ll have to prove the quality of limited edition stuff is there.
Ugh, I see Beautymarked is still a disappointment when swatched. At least the other 3 look pretty.
Swelter is a beautiful shade.
Just an FYI-
If you blend Beauty Marked with Woodwinked (http://www.temptalia.com/tag/mac-woodwinked-eyeshadow), everything turns this interesting green colour. I discovered that playing with colours one day.
I’m not sure I would buy Beauty Marked just for that (it’s kind of dissappointing), but if you are planning on buying this pallette anyway and you have Woodwinked, try it out.
Club is another one that benefits greatly from blending with something else or using a paint pot. I’ve never tried it, but even blend something not duochrome like Woodwinked with Club might make it a goldy-teal. I think I’ve used Steamy with it, too, which really makes the teal come out.
The Beautymarked/Woodwinked green is sort of metallic, antique-y green. It’s interesting, but might look muddy on some people. I have no idea the exact colour breakdown in the black of Beauty marked….but something comes out of hiding.
I discover these things at the MAC counter. It’s a fun place to play.
I actually really love Beauty Marked on top of Maybelline’s Pomegranate Punk. It helps it look the way i feel like Beauty Marked is supposed to look on its own.
Hey Christine, you should try using Beauty Marked over Fyrinnae’s pixie epoxy. I’ve found that eyeshadows that perform poorly on the skin but look beautiful in the pan sometimes look amazing over pixie epoxy. I’ve never tried this with a MAC eyeshadow, only drugstore and some indie brands, but it’s worth a shot! 🙂
Where do you get this? Is this a European line? I have never heard of it.
I used to want this palette so bad, but now I think I am just going to get the other one. The color pay off on the other palette is a lot better.
Temperature Rising is pretty. These colors are kind of common though. Easily duped.
This palette is very very similar to sephora mini bag makeup palette with the blushes and glosses. It comes with its tans, pinks/purples white blue, black. Sorry this palette is very dupable with the mini makeup bag palette.
Even though MUA’s often trash Beautymarked, it is one of my fave. shadows to layer over black liner. I just pat it onto any creamy pencil liner with a tiny brush. The shimmer in the shadow really adds a pretty dimension to the upper lash line.
