Bobbi Brown Pink Rose Blush ($25.00 for 0.13 oz.) is described as a “dusty pink.” It’s a softened, medium-dark pink with subtle cool undertones and a matte finish. NARS Mata Hari is a bolder, brighter version. MAC Prom Princess is darker and cooler-toned. MAC Subtle Breeze is a smidgen cooler-toned.
It’s supposed to be a “silky-sheer powder blush that … gives cheeks a … natural-looking pop of color” with a matte finish and long-wear. It can be applied as a veil of sheer color, and in fact, does better when applied that way, but it is buildable to heavier color. Pink Rose had a stubborn texture; dry, stiff, and difficult to work with. It was challenging to dislodge enough product to get even, consistent color, and the powder didn’t want to blend easily on the cheeks, either. I really felt like I had to jab at the surface to get any color payoff or product out of the pan. It’s a shame as the color cold be very workable on both cool and warm-toned skin as a subtler, everyday kind of shade but also as something more dramatic once built up. The product managed to wear mostly intact for about eight hours, but it was hard to determine, as it looked patchy initially (so, so difficult to blend!).

I have never had a lot of luck with any Bobbi Brown product-they never seem to have enough oomph (for lack of a better word) I am surprised this one got an F ,since I know it is a brand that performs well for a lot of people
Bobbi Brown performs well because of Bobbi…guest at the Today show etc….marketing her brand. This is another brand of Estee Lauder that needs to step up on its game. $25 for .13 oz, the size for a blush. Rather get Nars with more pigmentation. And no mirror attached? This is No No.
What a shame that it’s such poor quality because it looks SO pretty in the pan. The problems you describe, Christine, are exactly the problems I had with the version of MAC Dame that came out in the Tartan Tales collection – it was an effort to get ANY of the product onto a brush, let alone onto my cheeks.
I have no problems with MAC’s Dame, which I bought a couple of months ago. Maybe they’ve redone the formula because I hardly have to swirl my brush around for plenty of product. I hope you give it another try, perhaps sample it at a MAC counter, it’s such a great blush! 🙂
If it weren’t for your honest track record, I would have thought that Bobbi Brown insulted your mom or something. Having owned a BB blush, the lack of quality in this product is just shocking.
And I really like some of her blushes – but when they don’t work, they really seem to disappoint. But here are a few I liked:

I’ve had good experiences with Bobbi Brown products, mainly their eyeshadows, shimmerbricks and of course their amazing lipglosses. I’m so surprised companies like Bobbi Brown still get Fs! You would expect consistency!

Perhaps you got a bad one? I love this blush. i don’t have any of the problems you described below. I have combo skin and wear foundation and powder underneath it.

The end shade looks a little like Illamasqua Katie blush, but that is the opposite in terms of texture- it’s soft and easily buildable and blendable. If you like this colour and not the formula, I’d try the Illamasqua Katie blush- definitely!
There are dozens of others in the same family with far better quality. Lately it seems when BBrown is a miss..they are a BIG miss. As much as I love and own a number of BBrown staple products, blush curiously has never entered into the picture. I do not own any BBrown blushes to compare quality.
Christine: I love this colour and do not think I have a dupe in my collection. It has a nice balance and looks like a very neutral rose. Does this compare at all to MAC Dollymix or Pink Swoon or am I way off base here?
I’d say closer to Dollymix than Pink Swoon – Pink Swoon would be too bubblegum pink and really blue based from what I remember. Dollymix has a bit of shimmer and may apply darker, but with a light hand, they’d look similar on I think.
Oh, that’s too bad – Bobbi Brown must have reformulated her blushes since the Estee Lauder buyout. I have this blush in the old round packaging and it’s beautifully soft and one of my favorite natural pink blushes.
Too bad for the bad review, the color is cute. Although I’ve never been blown away with any Bobbi Brown product; they are all just okay to me.
Wow F for Bobby Brown and this blush is so gorgeous such a shame…I was becoming excited about it before I scrolled down and the F of doom appeared. I was at the Bobby Brown counter about three days ago, after walking away from the Chanel counter still sad that none of the new collections have arrived. So I started so swatch the products out of curiosity and can I say I liked some of them quite a bit. Now I have the Naked Plum High Shimmer gloss on my to buy list and was considering getting a blush since I find them quite pretty and cheap…compared to the Chanel blushes at least. But this review is making me think I have to be carefull with my choise.

I’m so grateful for your honest reviews, Christine – I would not expect F ratings with a prestigious brand like Bobbi Brown and if I hadn’t read your review, I would probably have picked Pink Rose Blush, as the shade and matte finish are right up my alley. Bobbi Brown products seem to lack consistency in their quality and that’s so disappointing!
