Chanel Mediterraneen Eyeshadow Quad Review & Swatches
Mediterraneen (747)
Chanel Mediterraneen (747) Les 4 Ombres Multi-Effect Quadra Eyeshadow ($62.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a new, warm-toned neutral color story that featured four variations on gold. All four shades had a really lovely texture on the lids, as they seemed to melt and meld, giving them a seamless, flattering finish. The pigmentation ranged from semi-opaque to opaque, but they were buildable, and they could be used with a dampened brush for higher coverage if preferred.

Mediterraneen (747)
LELimited Edition. $70.00.
Mediterraneen #1
Mediterraneen #1 is a medium, dirty gold with subtle, warm undertones and a pearl finish. The eyeshadow had rich color coverage that adhered well to bare skin and diffused almost effortlessly along the edges. The texture felt firmer, slightly dense to the touch, but the powder itself was very finely-milled and blendable. This shade showed signs of fading after eight and a half hours of wear.

LELimited Edition.
Mediterraneen #2
Mediterraneen #2 is a light-medium gold with warmer undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. The texture was moderately dense, firmer but not stiff to work with, so it picked up readily with a dry brush. It had semi-opaque, buildable color coverage that applied evenly and seemed to “melt” on my skin for a very seamless look. It stayed on nicely for eight and a half hours before fading a bit.

LELimited Edition.
Mediterraneen #3
Mediterraneen #3 is a medium, peachy gold with strong, warm undertones and a pearl sheen. It had opaque color payoff paired with a smooth, moderately-firm texture that wasn’t too thick or too stiff, so it picked up well with a dry brush but did require a moderate hand to do so. It wore well for eight and a half hours before fading visibly.

Mediterraneen #3
LELimited Edition.
Mediterraneen #4
Mediterraneen #4 is a deep, olive gold with subtle, warm undertones and a metallic sheen. The texture was slightly powdery, though very finely-milled and smooth to the touch. The powder seemed to meld to my lid for a seamless sheen that was more pearl-like. It had mostly opaque, buildable pigmentation that lasted well for eight and a half hours.

The quality is definitely good, I’m just feeling like it lacks the level of depth needed for anyone beyond light-medium in coloring. This quad only has one darker shade, so I don’t know.
As we all suspected, the first three shades are quite similar to each other, especially when placed on the eye lid. I like the concept of the palette, but of course, wish that the second and third shades be a little more pigmented with antique gold shades and perhaps a soft neutral brown shade.
Or a murkier olive, which would echo L’Impreinte. Not being a gold fan, I’d love this in silvery gray with a deep blue…like SG Thunderbird, but maybe a satin. Funny how we look at a product and tweak it to be personal.
A visually stunning palette- the shades may appear similar on the eye but they don’t always have to be worn together- you could do a one and done, or use just two. I wasn’t going to get it, but now, I’m considering it! 🙂
Hi Christine,
Thank you for the review today. I just only got the email from Chanel promoting their new spring/summer line. I really like this quad. Very soft, neutral and zen. I am all about the zen this year. Also liked the greenish bronze, got green eyes so this quad could be really good for my eye. Thanks for all the pictures and swatches.
Happy New Year 2022,
Stay healthy everyone!

Happy new year, Joanne! 🙂
Happy New Year, with good health (as we say in Greece), love and happiness!
I wanted to love this palette because I’m a sucker for gold eye shadows and tomorrow’s my birthday. Planned to buy a special beauty item and since I rarely purchase Chanel eye shadows I was hoping this palette would be it. But alas it lacks dimension and depth, all of the shades are too light for me, hard pass
Happy Birthday! 🎉🎂🙏🏻
I love these kinds of palettes.. I always seem to fall for them.. I have the CT Star Aura.. I fall in love very time I use it.. dark smoky eyes are not the best look for me.. so I may be a sucker for this one except it just looks so similar to my CT palette.. I had to stop myself from buying the CT pearl palette.. I wonder how similar they are…
They certainly have that whole melt into the skin thing happening with this and that beautiful blush. There is a lot to be said about nuance. In terms of value for money, I would personally go for something with greater variation on shade.
Thank you for the review Christine! I was hoping you would review it. This is stunning. It is making me swoon. I can imagine using this for those quick get ready work mornings to brighten tired eyes and look polished yet not have to spend too much time blending out harsh edges. It doesn’t have a darker contour color to add depth and that’s what I kind of like about this quad. I definitely don’t need this palette but I sure want it! Will see if my January no buy holds 🙂
I could see all the shades working well for more of a one-and-done look!
Ooh same melt-y texture as Empreinte du Desert??
Yes, very similar!
Amazing palette, a must-have for me. It will complement the masterpiece Empreinte du desert. Finally a color story that is entirely golden-olive! A sophisticated palette. Love it!
I just got my order for this last night and am wearing it today. My experience lines up with yours Christine – no fallout, blends so well. I was able to get a noticeable difference from three shades on my lid – upper left on most of lid, olive shade at crease and far corner, with upper right for inner corner of eye. I’m very happy, but Nancy and Genevieve’s opinions aren’t off base. This just happens to suit what I like.
I can definitely see it working for a more monochromatic look, one or two shades at a time, etc. The quality is nice, at least!
$80 CDN worth of sameness? Nah – I’ll pass! I do like the design pressed into the surface and the quality seems up there with the best of Chanel’s e/s releases but I’ve got dupes for 3 of the 4 shades and they are just so similar as to make them basically indistinguishable from one another, except for #4 (which I like very much and, fortunately, have dupes for).
To me, the Mediterranean conjures up images of clear skies, deep blue rippling water and lots of sunshine and olive trees …. everything this palette sadly isn’t. It just looks so uninspiring, therefore an easy pass for me.
That description sounds a bit like the Empreinte du Desert quad (I am so glad I have that beauty; when I first saw this quad, my initial thought was “Sort of like E du D ‘light'”).
Unfortunately, Mediterraneen is sold out. So I have purchased a dupe. Barry M. Super Natural eyeshadow paltte also is pretty close in regards two colors; peachy gold #3 and deep olive green #4. Still looking for the other shades.
