In the Buff

Tom Ford Beauty In the Buff Gloss Luxe ($57.00 for 0.24 oz.) is a light, peachy gold with a dusting of gold sparkle and a high-gloss finish. It had semi-sheer pigmentation, which was as marketed, that applied evenly across my lips and smoothed out most of my lip lines.

It added warmth to my lips and lightened them slightly, which ultimately made them appear a little more even than they naturally were, but the lightness and sheerness will make it vary in how it presents from person to person quite a bit. The texture was smooth, plush, and spreadable without being tacky or heavy to wear. It lasted well for three hours and was moisturizing over time.

Formula Overview

$57.00/0.24 oz. - $237.50 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have "sheer-to-medium coverage" with a hydrating base that feels like a "liquid balm." The impressive feature of the formula was the smooth, cushion-like consistency that was spreadable, plush, and comfortable to wear with no tackiness.

The plushness helped the colors apply evenly and make the shades more forgiving of lip texture and lip lines, which gave the illusion of fuller, smoother lips overall (given how shiny the glosses were, too). The coverage was sheer-to-medium, depending on the shade, but they definitely imparted sheerer coverage overall.

The shades I tested lasted between three and four hours and were very hydrating to wear. There seemed to be a faint, sweet vanilla scent but no discernible taste.

Sunrise Pink

Tom Ford Beauty Sunrise Pink Gloss Luxe ($57.00 for 0.24 oz.) is a darker, pink-leaning coral with soft, warm undertones and a cream finish. At the time of this review, this was the only cream-finish shade tested, and it did not perform as well as the shimmery/sparkly shades; the cream finish was more prone to settling into my lip lines and didn’t soften those lip lines or apply as evenly.

This particular shade also had higher coverage–more like semi-opaque–but the consistency was similar in feel: plush, gel-like, non-sticky, and comfortable to wear. The color wore well for four hours and was hydrating while worn.

Boy oh boy I am a lipstick girl but I’ve never bought a lipgloss. It always seemed too high maintenance and gooey. But I thought I’d look at these. Nope not wowing me. Both look super dupeable and honestly this price is beyond silly imo.

Hold onto your hats, ladies, but Tom Ford lip glosses are $72 each here in Canada. I’m not a lip gloss fan but I’m also not stupid enough to spend $57 on lip gloss, let alone $72! I don’t understand what makes these worth twice as much as perfectly wonderful glosses that cost half as much or even less.

I don’t buy from TF unless I can find something on sale at a heavy reduction. I have bought full price earlier, loved a lipstick and hated an eyeshadow. I force myself to use the eyeshadow on week a year, and will do do until it turns bad. I did pay a lot for it! 😀
What I could find from the brand online locally was liquid matte lipstick and a normal lipstick, and if Google is right they are $59 here, not at all as expensive as I thought it’d be.
