Chanel Orange Enigmatique (838) Rouge Allure Ink Matte Liquid Lip Colour ($40.00 for 0.2 oz.) is a light-medium brown with moderate, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had mostly opaque color coverage, which was closer to how it was marketed compared to other shades in the range.
The liquid lipstick had a very spreadable, almost watery texture, so while it felt thin, it still delivered higher coverage and went on evenly without settling noticeably into my lip lines. The formula was quick to dry down and was transfer-resistant but still flexible on. It lasted nicely for five hours and felt neither drying nor hydrating on me.

Formula Overview

The formula is supposed to have "ultra-intense, ultra-matte, longwearing lip colour" that "fuses" for "lightweight" and "comfortable coverage." The coverage was more semi-opaque than "ultra-intense," but the finish was flat, matte after the product dried down. A second layer could be applied for more pigmentation (once the initial layer set).
The initial texture was thin, more watery and fluid than I expected, and it almost seemed more like a blotted effect after it dried down. The product had marginally more stretch and flexibility to it after dry down, so it was more comfortable to wear and felt very lightweight on. I would recommend exfoliating prior to applying this formula to ensure a smoother application.
They lasted between five and six hours and felt non-drying for the most part. There was a very subtle, floral scent but no discernible taste.

Chanel Rouge Paradoxal (840) Rouge Allure Ink Matte Liquid Lip Colour ($40.00 for 0.2 oz.) is a muted, reddish-coral with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-sheer to medium color coverage in a single layer, which could be built up by applying a second layer after the first one had dried down.
The texture was lightweight, thin, and more watery, which made it spread readily over my lips, but this shade seemed more prone to drying down a bit into my lip lines. It wore well for four and a half hours and felt non-drying.

Rouge Paradoxal is that perfect autumnal pumpkin-y shade. I do have PML Fever Dream, but that one doesn’t dry down and become transfer proof/resistant. And since it would seem to appear that masks are still needed in semi-crowded situations and mandatory for public transportation, this shade has me tempted.
It always amazes me how a brand can get one product right (the first shade shown here) and another one so wrong….and, of course, the dudish one is the one that has a gorgeous colour.
