Dior Mirage (699) Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Mirage (699)
Dior Mirage (699) 5 Couleurs Couture Eyeshadow Palette ($63.00 for 0.24 oz.) is a new, limited edition palette that included five shimmery shades in warmer undertones. The palette could have used more contrast to make it a more versatile palette as a standalone color story, and if you’re someone who likes to have matte finishes, you will definitely need to add some in. The quality was nice–pigmented, blendable, easy to use–and the formula felt like a gel-powder, so it worked well dry as well as damp.

Mirage #1
Mirage #1 is a muted, light-medium orange with warm, brownish undertones and flecks of pink and gold shimmer that gave it a pearly sheen. It had opaque color coverage applied dry as well as wet, though the latter yielded a shinier finish. It had a smooth, moderately-dense texture that was easy to pick up and to apply. It stayed on well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Formula Overview
-
The formula is supposed to have a "creamy and comfortable texture" that is long-wearing and has "intense color" (or "high-pigment"). There are five finishes that can be found within various palettes: matte, satin, shimmer, metallic, highlighter, and glitter, though there aren't specific descriptions by finish, unfortunately.
There were a few shades that seemed more sparkly and were sheerer, more like layering shades, while the other finishes tended to be pigmented. In general, the texture was moderately dense with the matte shades being slightly thinner and a smidgen powdery in the pan compared to the satin, shimmer, and metallic shades.
Aside from those more sparkly shades, the formula was blendable, pigmented, easy to work with, and lasted an average of eight hours on me (without a primer).

Mirage #2
Mirage #2 is a light orange with barely-there pink iridescent shimmer that gave it a soft sheen. It had mostly opaque coverage in a single layer applied dry but was fully opaque in one layer with a dampened brush. The consistency was moderately-dense, smooth, and blendable without being too firmly-pressed into the pan. It wore nicely for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Mirage #3
Mirage #3 is a medium, yellow-peach base with flecks of gold-to-pink shifting pearl. It had medium pigmentation applied dry and opaque coverage applied with a dampened brush. The eyeshadow was moderately dense but slightly drier compared to the other shades in the palette, though it blended out just fine in practice. It lasted well for eight hours before showing signs of fading.

As you said, there is very little difference between several of the shade. I don’t want to be splashing out upwards of $70 for a palette where 4 of the 5 shadows are awfully similar to one another. With the exception of #5, none of these shadows appeals to me.
I totally agree!!
As you said, Mariella!
I have both this and Dune- this is such a beautiful quint!
Yes, I do agree with you Christine – there really isn’t enough difference between quite a few of the shades for them to stand out. Certainly shades 2 & 3 lack oomph and are ‘barely there’ colours. Like Mariella above, I only really like shade 5.
Big shocker….once again we’re drawn to the same shade. What a surprise 😉
Mirage is actually more interesting and has a degree of complexity in the shades, even though a couple look kinda close to each other. It’s on my radar now!
I think the pearl effects in both of the 5-pans recently reviewed are really gorgeous, but no, I wouldn’t be stepping up to this limited colour story and hefty price point for just that.
I bought this on a whim because it looked so different and glad to see high scores. I would love to see the look you got!
This one attracted me more than the other quint but my first thought is I bet all shades look alike.
Shades are peachy leaning except that plummy brown which I love all especially this time of year.
I don’t like the look on the dior model which looked like a light tangerine.
Not sure I’ll get this my eye is on that pink highlighter. I love Dior highlighters. I’m thinking on the peach one as I have a peach Dior highlighter which looks similar. Excited for that highlighter tho it’s on the website but not in stock yet.
