YSL Nude Protest & Inflammatory Nude Slim Matte Lipsticks Reviews & Swatches
Nude Protest (30)
YSL Nude Protest (30) Rouge Pur Couture The Slim Matte Lipstick ($39.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a medium-dark copper with moderate, warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had rich pigmentation in a single stroke, which delivered even color that didn’t emphasize my natural lip texture.
The lipstick felt smooth, velvety, and lightweight with a thinner consistency that didn’t cling but didn’t slide around at all during wear. It stayed on nicely for over seven hours, left a moderate stain behind, and felt neither drying nor hydrating while worn.

Formula Overview
$39.00/0.08 oz. - $487.50 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to be "weightless" and "non-drying" that "stays put all day" with "high-pigmented matte color." The texture has a smooth, velvety consistency--it glided on readily but didn't feel wet or traditionally creamy, more like a silicone-based primer. The majority of the shades applied evenly, didn't separate along my lip lines, and were lightweight and comfortable to wear.
The pigmentation was mostly opaque to opaque, and the shade range seemed to pull more mid-tone and deeper with a fair number of red-based shades. As a result, numerous shades lasted six hours or longer with red-based shades leaving very strong stains behind (even into the next day, my lips were often pink-to-fuchsia!). Some shades seemed to go on and on and on because of the color itself and the underlying staining power! The formula was non-drying as promised.
The diamond-shaped bullet may take a use or two to get the hang of, but I didn't find it difficult to use at all. The triangular point did work particularly well for getting a sharper cupid's bow shape, if desired. The formula had a floral scent that was barely detectable while on and no discernible taste.

Inflammatory Nude (31)
YSL Inflammatory Nude (31) Rouge Pur Couture The Slim Matte Lipstick ($39.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a light, peachy coral with warmer undertones and a matte finish. For the lighter hue and very matte, more velvety texture, it applied pretty well compared to similar shades I’ve tried, but it did separate a bit along my deeper lip lines; it was less apt to catch on texture than I would have guessed.
It had opaque color coverage in a single layer paired with a smooth, velvety feel that was lightweight, thin but not clingy, and comfortable to wear. This shade wore well for five hours and felt non-drying over time.

I’ve been keeping a tab on coppery red lipsticks as an area not represented in my stash. I love Nude Protest. Maybe I need to buy this to celebrate visible lips when the pandemic is over.
Just looked this up on Sephora and seriously.. the coloured swatch and jimmied lip photos are so.bad. I never would have picked this from that.
I have CP’s Lux Lipstick in Slow Dance, which is a pretty good dupe of this shade and so much cheaper and just as good.
Thanks Genevieve! Just pulled up the swatch comparison and they are indeed close. I think the YSL is a titch more neutral with a bit more red of a base. I like both and you are captain of these shades apparently 😁
You mean as opposed to Genevieve’s or my stash, where they totally dominate? So right about online descriptions, and some are less accurate than others. The worst part is that online always decreases the appeal, rather than increasing it.
Yes kjh, you are so right- my stash does have more than a few of these shades…….
Love both shades, but it’s Nude Protest that has me wanting it. This is one of those colors that just looks good on me, particularly in late summer and through autumn.
Nude Protest is the one I like the best, no surprises here!
Ridiculous names, very lovely colors!
Nude Protest is interesting, I have no dupes and I’m not sure it’s a colour for me, but I do like it a lot.
Inflammatory Nude????
