Holiday 2019 Swatches - Lip Sets by Bite, Bobbi Brown, Givenchy, Urban Decay
Whew! Here are some swatches of various holiday lipstick sets. They’re swatched in the order the sets are listed below, and hopefully, you’ll be able to use the group shot as your guide to indicate where each set begins. The sneak peek was designed for same-brand collections/releases rather than a multi-brand extravaganza!
- Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Supercharged Lipstick Set ($21.00) (press sample, I purchased the other three sets!)
- Bobbi Brown Major Crush Crushed Liquid Lip Color Set ($45.00)
- Givenchy Holiday 2019 Le Rouge Mini Lipstick Set ($50.00)
- Urban Decay Sweet Little Vices Lipstick Set ($25.00)
I wish companies would group their lip sets by tone. I love pinks/reds but never wear nudes.
Same here and it never seems to fail that these groupings (whether lip or cheek) have cool tones which are my best shades, and then warm or nude shades that I simply don’t have any use for.
Cool or warm, but mixed is a waste of money. Some lines never get it. They just keep mixing them together willy-nilly, and advertising them as shades everyone can wear.
Uh-huh —
This is why I LOVED the Clinique cheek trios this year; being able to choose cool or warm was so on point. I picked up Cool Down.
Yes, I agree with you too. I never wear nudes or pinks, so I would love a set that had reds, berries or browns.
Ok, I know I said no more lip sets, but the Bite beauty one is calling my name!!
None of these are calling to me, they each have a colors that are too light and off-tone for me. Peachy colors are definitely trending!
Yep. Almost every color wouldn’t work for me.
Agree with A & M. I’d go for the reds and maybe nudes, but not corals or pinks. I think that as your preferences narrow, these mixed tone sets become pretty irrelevant, though fun to browse. I can see you’re in the thick of it now. We appreciate all you do, and hope you can rest, if only occasionally.
Exactly! I bought these like crazy when I first got into makeup but once I figured out what my preferences were, I stopped doing that…but the problem is, I do prefer minis to full-sized.
Yes. Minis have a shot at full use. FS, not so much. Last year’s Nars mini Man Ray Kiki de Montparnasse was perfect, with a great display coffret. A UD set w/ 2/5 purples ~3 years ago was also fun. The classic French brands tend to be broad: a pink, a red, a nude, sometimes a dark or coral. If you have a makeup buddy with whom to share, great. Otherwise, admiration only.
I’m going to need to try Bite’s new formula I think! I love how the outer casing depicts the shade inside. Very convenient!
Also may try the UD quad of mini’s, too.
These look beautiful shades of lipsticks as well.
I really wanted the Givenchy set, but thanks to your review, I see that it has Grenat Initie — NOT Carmin Escarpin as listed on Sephora!
Lip sets just don’t work for me and I only have my daughter to share with and she doesn’t wear nudes either. We both have pretty pigmented lips and she is just a dark, vampy kind of gal. This makes it easy to stick with my resolution to finish buying the Pat McGrath Luxe Trance lippies that are on my wish list. My daughter is seriously planning on getting rid of all her lipsticks except high end and mostly only buying PMGL lippies in the future. She doesn’t have quite as large a selection as I do but she does have two carousel’s that each hold 70 and are full and then a couple of glass bowls that have jumbo lip pencils, lippie stix and miscellaneous lipsticks. She just doesn’t find herself reaching for the other lipsticks and doesn’t want to see them go bad so she is offering them to friends at work, sterilized, of course.
The first two colors in the Bite set look so similar to me! I wish they had included more variety in that set.
I see a lot of people saying they’d like brands to group sets by nudes, or reds, but I’d prefer the opposite. I’d like a set to include 4 distinct colors:
1 Red
1 Nude
1 Deep or Berry shade
1 Bright or “Fantasy” shade
Make two sets, one warm, one cool.
That way you get to really explore a brand’s range and you have a lot of things to play with.
Of course, I say this as somebody who really enjoys all kinds of lipsticks, from a subtle nude to a really ridiculous fantasy color that takes a ton of other makeup to balance out on my pale face.
