Palette 07

Natasha Denona Palette 07 Eyeshadow Palette 5 ($48.00 for 0.4 oz.) is a cool-toned palette featuring two grays, a matte teal, a brighter blue, and a mid-tone taupe. Four of the five shades were shimmery, though two had a lower-level sheen to them. While it used a more updated formula than the original 28-pan palettes had, there were still areas for improvement for all but one shade.

Quick Silver (09M)

Quick Silver (09M) is a medium gray with neutral-to-cool undertones and a pearly sheen. It had semi-opaque color coverage that applied unevenly due to the more emollient, almost slippery, consistency that seemed to push around rather than adhere well. I’d recommend applying it with a dampened brush or fingertips to get the easiest application with it. The eyeshadow wore well for seven and a half hours before showing signs of fading.

Formula Overview

$29.00/0.08 oz. - $362.50 Per Ounce

The majority of the brand's eyeshadows are quite pigmented, blendable, and long-wearing. The eyeshadows have improved over time, particularly with respect to longevity (without a primer). The original formula often creased on me within seven to eight hours, whereas the more current formula wears eight to nine hours with fading (instead of full-on creasing). The more matte finishes tend to be a bit more velvety, substantial, and less dry/powdery compared to prior iterations.

The metallic finish is often the creamiest, slightly denser in feel, but has excellent pigmentation, adhesion, and blendability. The sparkling shades can have some fallout, depending on how they're applied and how sparkly they are, so they sometimes work better with fingertips or a dampened brush; they can also run sheerer compared to other finishes.

Cream-Powders are the more unique formulation and tend to have firmer, almost stiff, consistencies and more semi-opaque, watercolor-esque coverage. They are longer-wearing, but they can take a few uses to learn how to use. This formula has also improved compared to when it first debuted--it is a bit more yielding now.

Powder Blue (84V)

Powder Blue (84V) is a bright, medium blue-teal with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. It had medium coverage that was buildable to semi-opaque pigmentation without a base but definitely benefited from a primer. The texture was moderately powdery and prone to sheering out, and there was light fallout if I wasn’t careful to tap off the excess thoroughly. This shade stayed on decently for seven and a half hours on me before fading visibly.

Anthrazit (06P)

Anthrazit (06P) is a blackened-gray base with flecks of silver and teal micro-sparkle. The consistency was denser, slightly stiff and more slippery to work with, so it had to be pressed and patted into place with a firm, flat brush and then blended out. It had opaque coverage that lasted for eight hours on me before fading noticeably.

Petroleum Blue (92M)

Petroleum Blue (92M) is a bright, medium blue with subtle, cool undertones and a pearly sheen. The texture was smooth to the touch, but it was a bit more firmly pressed into the pan so it didn’t pick up as evenly with a dry brush as other shades do. It had good color payoff that wore well for eight hours on me before fading visibly.

Gray-Brown (38M)

Gray-Brown (38M) is a medium, taupe-brown with neutral-to-cool undertones and a metallic sheen. It had excellent color payoff in a single layer with a smooth, lightly creamy texture that wasn’t too dense nor too firmly pressed into the pan. The color stayed on well for eight and a half hours before fading a bit.

I love the idea of this color story, but the performance is definitely not there for me. It does give me some inspiration for how to arrange some of my singles – I think I can make a similar color story with the deep greys and teals.

Mariella Avatar

I really like Petroleum Blue and Grey-Brown but the poor performance of the other shades and the fact that this palette isn’t one I could use on its own makes it an easy “No” for me. I’ll check the dupe list for the 2 shades I really like.

Genevieve Avatar

How disappointing this little 5 pan is! With a little bit more effort the grey shades could have been stunning and it would have turned this palette on its toes. I don’t quite see the value of the bright medium blue matte shade, when you have the lovely Petroleum blue in there. A soft plum grey instead?

Missy Avatar

Well now that’s really disappointing. I absolutely love this color story, if it had been a Mini palette I may have snapped it up even with the performance issues, but I definitely wouldn’t spend $48. Thank you for reviewing it!

kjh Avatar

Always thought I’d like, possibly haul this one. Yet, if you expand it, add green, and tweak it more summery, there are similarities (not dupes, but can fill the same niche) with MAC Glades from a few years ago. Quicksilver should have been easy to ace. That’s one of the best features about top dupes. If all the dupes score poorly, one’s takeaway can be ‘That’s a hard shade to do.’ But if the dupes cluster around a better grade, you know that the reviewed shade missed the mark.

Francesca Avatar

That’s why I’ve never bought any eyeshafow from ND. The colour stories I like, like this, permirf so and so for the (too) high price point. The palettes which perform well have instead boring colour stories, when with boring I mean that have a lot if repeated shades inside the same palette ( like gold, metropolis..) and I am plenty of dupes.

Jolanda Avatar

I’m on the doubt of this concept. Natasha Denona is a luxury brand. The pricetag of these 5-pans are pretty high if you compare it with her other releases and the market in general. The small size 5-pans are half the price and although the pans are smaller, they are big enough to last me for a long time. And if I want more, I can save up for those midi-size and get more choice in shades in a palette. Maybe not in this exact colourscheme of palette 7 but in general I can get a lot same tones and vibes in midi-size and maybe the next midi-size will be an icy toned christmas palette. You never know that, but it would fit her range.

And if I want to pay 50 euro for new eyeshadow, there is a lot of competition in the high-end brands. So these 5 pans with no name must be the best she has to offer to be stand out the crowd and to be worth the money. She seems to fail with this one. Money safed for me, but if I was Natasha I would reconsider my palleteranges and stop with the 10 euro’s a shade palletes. The 5 pans for 25 is more reasonable.
