New Hair Color -- Desert Sunset Balayage
I’m back with new hair color! The inspiration was a mashup between “galaxy” hair (purple, pink, teal, blue, like this one) and “sunset” hair (pink purple, orange, like I originally had here) with more contrast and less blending compared to my past iterations (as inspired by this reference photo). Teal has always been a favorite color for me, and while I love the way “galaxy” hair color looks, I’m still not sold on it for me because it uses a lot of cooler-toned shades. I thought this would be a nice way to incorporate some blue/teal without the full commitment. I really loved how it turned out!
I had my hair done by Lauren Krech (at The Waverly Salon), as usual, and I split the appointment across two days like I did last time. The first appointment was raising up my balayage and removing the previous color, and the second appointment was all color! It went faster than the last two visits; it took about seven hours in total (across the two days) with just under four hours on color. Lauren used five different colors on me: Joico Hot Pink with Red and Clear, Joico Pink, Joico Orchid, Joico Mermaid Blue with Cobalt Blue, and Pulpriot Neon Orange and Joico Fiery Coral.
P.S. — I paid for my services in full!
Gorgeous! I think the amount of blue she used is perfect, much nicer than the galaxy look.
Thanks, Seraphine! I LOVE the way the galaxy hair looks as is so I might be working my way toward it!
ADORE the blues. You look fabulous, and your colorist has as much an eye for hair looks as you do for m/u. That’s high praise.
Thank you, KJH!
I love the new color on you, Christine! And Lauren is one talented stylist, I might add. Love the different shades and the way they are distributed. You have gorgeous, healthy and shiny hair 🙂
Thanks so much, Nicole! 🙂
Gorgeous hair, you look beautiful Christine!
Thanks, Lily!
Omg I’m obsessed! So beautiful!
Thank you, Lori!
Your hair is looking wicked gorgeous, Christine! Lauren did such a stellar job on it!
Thanks a lot, Kuz!
Scottsdale, look out!!! (Because they ain’t ready for this here! LOL)
This hair is bangin’ hot and so dang cool looking! Teal, purple and blood orange are my favorite colors besides black. You rock it very well, Christine. Now we need to get you some gear; black leather moto jacket and Doc’s? ?
Thank you, Nancy!
Hi Christine, maybe you could share your hair routine at one point? My hair is purple, and right now, I’m really struggling with my routine. For a while, my hair didn’t seem to care, but nowadays, I can clearly see that it’s getting bleached regularly. I haven’t found the perfect products for my hair (when I had them, they got discontinued, argh), so, here’s where my question comes from. Also, your hair looks fab!!!
It probably helps that I don’t use much heat on it, so that’s a common source of damage that I don’t experience. I wash once every five days, and I’ve been using Olaplex 3 prior to washing (probably every other wash) and then Olaplex shampoo & conditioner. I usually use a leave-in conditioner and let my hair air dry for the most part; I was using a Shea Moisture coconut one but have been using Briogeo’s Don’t Despair, Repair. That’s about all I do!
Sam R. recently did a Q&A with her hair stylist (she’s blonde), and you might find some of their insight useful! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsBsvxK1VgM
Does Lauren use Olaplex 1 and 2 on you in the salon?
I believe so!
It’s lovely! I’ve loved the look every time you’ve colored your hair!
Yay! Thank you, Cat!
Your hair is absolutely gorgeous!
Thanks, Katie!
I love the teal streaks with the warmer sunset shades!
Thank you, Rachel!
Love, love, love Christine!
Thanks, Brenda! 🙂
Absolutely a knockout Christine. Your hairdresser is so talented to get all the shades and blends so right.
Thank you, Genevieve!
Absolutely gorgeous combination of colours, looks great on you!!!
Aw, thanks Liesbeth!
I love the streaks of teal. I wish someone near me did this kind of coloring. I’d love to try it.
Aww! I hope you can find someone!
Beautiful, happy hairs, they elevate the mood!
Thank you, Amalia!
Your hair is gorgeous! I love the colours so much.
Thanks a lot, Helene! 🙂
Gorgeous!
Thanks, Cherry! 🙂
love it
Thank you!
Love your site? You look beautiful in these shots?
Thanks, Barb!
I absolutely love it! I wish I had the courage to do something like this, but I have long afro hair and I am so afraid of it breaking off and not growing back. You have that silky hair, mashallah. And now I’m going gray, help! I want a crazy bright color I can do at home that will cling to the gray, too.
Thanks a lot, Katie! I can totally understand that. Have you considered researching for a local colorist/stylist that might be able to consult with you and help give you realistic expectations/solutions? I’m not at all a hair expert, so I’m not much help, but I think starting professionally and finding ways to keep the vibrancy over time with at-home products might be a good way to go to ensure happy, healthy hair!
That sounds right on. I need to find a salon. Thank you!
The touch of teal is brilliant! Such unique and fitting look for you!!
Thank you, Daphne!
Love it! The teal and the copper are such beautiful contrasts to the purples.
Thank you, Ada!
That is beautiful. I love it. I don’t color my hair a ton. I don’t do a lot with my hair just a basic girl…
Thank you, Becky! I didn’t do much for a long time, but it has been fun to try!
