Jouer Beach Daze & Sea Glass Duochrome High Pigment Pearl Lip Glosses Review & Swatches
Beach Daze
Jouer Beach Daze Duochrome High Pigment Pearl Lip Gloss ($17.00 for 0.2 oz.) has a sheerer, almost coppery base with sparkle that shifted from copper to fuchsia. It had semi-sheer color coverage that was buildable to semi-opaque with a second layer, but the emollient formula was prone to pulling into my lip lines. At most angles, it was hard to see the settling as it did have a high-shine finish and a lot of reflection from the sparkles. The texture was lightweight, thin but comfortable to wear, and wasn’t tacky. It wore well for three hours and was lightly hydrating over time.

Sea Glass
Jouer Sea Glass Duochrome High Pigment Pearl Lip Gloss ($17.00 for 0.2 oz.) has a sheerer, pink-tinted base with pink to gold shifting sparkle. While it was intended to be full coverage, it was medium coverage at best in a single layer; it had a good amount of shimmer and sparkle that dispersed well across my lips, but full coverage it was not! The texture was lightweight, emollient without being too slippery, and thin, though comfortable to wear as it was a hydrating formula. I had a touch of product sink into my lip lines but didn’t find it noticeable in person due to the high-shine finish. It stayed on nicely for three hours on me.

I have found Jouer lip products to be particularly hateful to my lips.
Well, upside is you can easily ignore an entire brand’s lip products! Sometimes it’s just nice when a brand takes themselves out of an equation – frees up space for other brands, LOL!
Oooh, these look so pretty. I can’t wait to try them. <3
They are! I’m just so puzzled on the whole full coverage thing. Jouer even has them broken out from the regular High Pigment Pearl Lip Glosses and yet the description didn’t walk back the pigmentation claim.
The former Elle beauty editor Jean Godfrey-June wrote in her memoir that she heard two magazine editors discussing a major mistake in the issue- something like the caption for a photo being nonsensical- and one editor said, “Please, they’re ~women~ it doesn’t matter what we write.”
So when cosmetics companies make stupid mistakes like this, saying a glitter gloss is “high pigment,” it tells me that the men running the company think we’re stupid. And I’ll still buy the thing, so they’re right.
So I looked into it, because I was just curious, and it’s founded by Christina Zilber (which I recalled), and she’s listed as founder and creative director, but her LinkedIn and Instagram say CEO.
This is the description copied from Jouer’s site, though, for those curious! “A limited edition, high shine and high pigment pearl lip gloss with an eye-catching duochrome effect that allows the shade to shift from every angle.”
heehee, I started looking it up after I typed that, too. <3 But if Anna Wintour can think we're stupid, so can Christina Zilber, I'm sure.
Or, whatever, just lazy and not concerned with details. I feel like the beauty industry is prone to that more than other industries.
Yes, sometimes I feel like whoever writes the descriptions might not have even tried the product because I’m like, this is… just not… close to full coverage…
I truly believe that it’s more of a issue with the marketing department that is writing the description. Words like “high pigment” can be subjective, and relative to some brands lip gloss, these are high pigment. Even though clearly, for the price point, one has higher expectations. CEO’s would behoove themselves to try the final product from a consumer point of view, but I doubt that rarely happens
So, the original range of High Pigment Lip Glosses are specifically described as full coverage: “This weightless, creamy gloss delivers full-coverage color that glides on smoothly and moisturizes the lips with Jojoba Seed Oil and Coconut Oil.”
For the Duochromes, they have this under “Best Way to Apply” – “Apply to lips for full coverage color.”
Hope that clarifies!
This looks like it would feel gritty. The couple times I’ve worn this type of product, I wound up with sparkles all over my face. So—yay!—another product I’m not gonna buy!
Yay x2! 🙂
Sea Glass, C+ as it is, has gotten to me! It looks identical to a lipstick I wore by Revlon from roughly ’99-’03. I believe it was called Sizzle. It came in a Colorstay type tube that was gold instead of black. Went through several tubes! (If anyone else remembers these, what were they called?)
Anyway, yes to Sea Glass. Because memories.
I was THISCLOSE to giving it a recommends but felt a little weird about a recommends on a C+ product, LOL.
LOL! Now that would have been hilarious! And I’m sure it would have at least a few heads spinning ???
These are so beautiful in the tube , its a shame they don’t cover better . I love how Sea Glass looks . But it looks like a pass for me .
It has a great shift to it, so at least it lived up to that part!
Well I like em! I have them and wear them over a soft lip pencil all over my lips and that lays down a nice base for them. ??
I don’t mind Sea Glass not being full coverage, and I know the grade is due a lot to the brands description and the products actual performance so in this case the C+ doesn’t bother me at all.
I want this lip goodie, sparkling lovlieness on my lips ASAP! It’s been a long time since I felt this way about anything from Jouer, though I love their lip balm and repurchase it as often as I need to.
This is a product I will buy when/if it comes to Europe. (I’m so tired of paying the extra fee for importing from outside the EU.)
Even though they don’t live up to the opacity claims, I think these are really pretty. I have the Fenty dupes for both shades, so that’s good.
