Pat McGrath Omi & Elson MatteTrance Lipsticks Reviews & Swatches
Omi
Pat McGrath Omi MatteTrance Lipstick ($38.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark pink with neutral-to-warm undertones and a satin finish. The pigmentation was opaque in a single layer, which went on evenly and fluidly. It had a smooth, velvety consistency that was lightly creamy but not slippery on my lips, so it adhered well for longer wear. It stayed on well for just shy of the five-hour mark and was neither hydrating nor drying on me. It performed consistently with the regularly-packaged version.

Formula Overview
$38.00/0.14 oz. - $271.43 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to be ārichly pigmentedā with āāsupreme hydrationā and āopulent matte opacity.ā The consistency was smooth, velvety, and dense without being too firm for one-stroke, glide-on application (I found the original shades to be slightly firmer compared to more newly released shades). They had nearly opaque to opaque coverage in one layer and most were buildable.
They had a subtle sheen--more satin-to-cream in finish--that wore down to a natural matte finish within an hour or two of wear. The formula lasted between four and eight hours on me, and while most weren't drying, they aren't "supreme[ly" hydrating either. They are, however, comfortable to wear over a longer period of time and reapply well. There was no discernible scent or taste to the formula.

Elson
Pat McGrath Elson MatteTrance Lipstick ($38.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a rich, deep red with strong, cool undertones and a soft sheen. It had good color coverage in a single layer, but I could detect a hint of my lip freckle peeking through (indcating it wasn’t quite full coverage). The lipstick had a lightweight, lightly emollient consistency that felt more emollient than other shades that had a creamier, slightly heavier feel in comparison. For such a rich shade, it was easy to apply, even along the edges, and lasted for over six hours, left a stain behind, and did not feather or bleed along the edges of my lips. The formula felt neither drying nor hydrating on me. It was consistent when compared to the regularly-packaged version, though this seemed to be marginally more comfortable to wear.

Is there anything different about this Omi other than the red packaging? I’m a little confused. (I’ve been eyeing this shade for a long time.)
Hi Seraphine,
Last sentence of the review for Omi: “It performed consistently with the regularly-packaged version.”
This is limited edition packaging but the shade is existing. I re-tested as this is the first time for the brand to do this, and at the price point, wanted to make sure it was consistent in quality as experience has taught me that is not always the case.
Oops, missed that last sentence! DOH! Thanks!
Out of all the specially packaged lipsticks, I do see myself getting a ton of milage on Omi! After all, one of its listed dupes is MAC Cosmo, which I wear to death. But I don’t really see them as close dupes at all. Cosmo being considerably lighter and glossier. Warmer, too. Omi it is!
So pretty!
Elson is a gorgeous red shade that would suit many and be worn day or night.
Christine, Fenty’s stunna paint listed under dupes is the peach shade instead of the red.
Hi Shalonda,
Not sure which you’re referring to! Under Elson (the red shade), there is only one Fenty dupe listed – Ma’damn, which is red! Omi has two Fenty Beauty dupes, Uncuffed and Thicc. Uncuffed is the only Stunna Lip Paint listed on either shade’s dupe list… but it is not peach?

I also saw that when clicking on the “more dupes” link.
Elson is the one lipstick I really want, but I have close dupes and about 50 or so red lipstick. I want, but don’t need so for now I’ll pass.
Could you send me a screen shot? Thank you!
So strange, it’s gone now š
It was just like Shalonda said, there were a photo of a peachy lipstick and it said it was Fentys Stunna.
I went back a few times to recheck, so I know it was there, but now it gone. Sometime odd things happen.
I’m really glad you took the time test these limited edition lipsticks.
Now Ć’ll put a pink lipstick on and walk the dogs. š
Christine, can I ask how similar/different is Elson from Forbidden Love? Iām trying to decide between these two n they look very similar to me..
It is shown on the dupe list for the shade – https://www.temptalia.com/makeup-dupe-list/pat-mcgrath-mattetrance-lipstick/elson/?brand=14319
You can also compare any two swatches I’ve done here – https://www.temptalia.com/swatch-gallery/#sbs
Or use the form that’s on this page as well (it’s on every review post!).
Iām so sorry…all the info is already there. Thank you so much!!
