Fucking Fabulous

Tom Ford Beauty Fucking Fabulous Lip Color ($60.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a bright, medium red with cool undertones and a lightly glossy, cream finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation with a smooth, lightly creamy texture that had detectable slip but not enough that it felt heavy or slippery after it was applied. The color applied evenly and didn’t gather in my lip lines, and the glossier finish seemed to make my lips appear smoother overall. It wore well for five hours, was moderately hydrating, and didn’t feather/bleed on me.

Formula Overview

$60.00/0.1 oz. - $600.00 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed have an "ultra-creamy texture" with "smooth application" that will deliver "pure color." The lipstick tends to have semi-opaque to opaque coverage with a natural to luminous finish with some shades with very fine pearl and others with more metallic shimmer. The consistency is typically creamy, lightweight, and has moderate slip, which makes it comfortable to wear and to apply but is not the most long-lasting lipstick formula. The wear tends to range between four and six hours with some shades performing above and below that range. There's a vanilla scent but no discernible taste.

No matter how pretty this is, I have no place on my vanity for a lipstick that has a name like this. I’ve been known to drop the f-bomb, and I’m certainly not a prude, but to me, this is just boring, immature, shock-value nonsense. (Just my own opinion, of course. 😉 )

Susan Avatar

What she said. While I’m not a total prude and have been known to say the f-word too, I’m sick of it being used as a common adjective or adverb or whatever the heck its grammatical tag is. Also sick of people who cannot conduct any conversation without saying f-ing this and f-ing that every third or fourth word. It shows a lack of originality and wit.

Also agree that the price is insane. $60 for one lipstick. Stuff like this and similar things like $30-$40 for one single eyeshadow are a huge turn-off. Yes, I know some people can afford it. SMH

Silvia Avatar

I so strongly agree with you! I’m no saint and will curse and joke very privately with mom and brothers, closest family or friends but this is too much. Ridiculous!

(Mini rant ahead) I’m not automatically reactive to profane names. Yes, I get this one is like a punctuation mark, it’s kind of clever marketing. Ok. However: putting customers in awkward position to ask for this at counters or search online for this for the sake of being marketing-cute is short sighted, even self indulgent.

There was a YSL lipstick “Nude in Private” that I’d lost. Couldn’t clearly remember the name, and went online to search. The many icky results of that googling is more my memory of the product than the product itself.

At least it’s not almost gross like Flesh’s naming, but really, why.

The color is lovely.

Really Tom? You may need to check ground control, and get effing real, dude! A $60 lipstick that does look f*cking fabulous, yet you as a creative artist couldn’t come up with a classier name than *this*?!? Nope, I have just as lovely shades of red lipstick that have names I’m not ashamed to say out loud if someone asks what I have on.

Denise Avatar

Tom Ford doubling down on everybody else’s sexual innuendo names?

I don’t care HOW fabulous it is; for that kind of $$$, there should be actual fucking!

Stacey Avatar

Nope. Getting the Chanel 5 lipstick.
If for the name only, it will be Chanel.
I am over Tom Ford.

As for the one who comment on Louboutin.
At least you can wear it as an accessory at a party.

I mean, Tom Ford is the guy who thought to shave a Gucci “G” into a model’s… hair for a magazine ad back in 2003. I think he’s hilarious, but this pretty classic Tom. Kind of gets an eye roll from me, although the mental image of having to ask for it by name at a stuffy Nordstrom counter IS pretty funny. If anything I’m surprised he’s resisted the urge to do something “provocative” as often as he has lately.

The color IS pretty fucking fabulous, and it’s not a bad gimmick to sell a lipstick when he already has such good and incredibly similar reds in his line.

Moxie Avatar

Tom Ford has been a misogynist with disgusting advertising campaigns for years.

His use of a swear word shouldn’t be the straw that broke the camel’s back unless folks care more about being polite than they do about objectification of women.

IDK. With 27 90% dupes on Temptalia, I don’t think it is in the least special, much less fabulous, and certainly does not warrant the effin epithet. I’d take the Pat over this any day. To deserve that moniker, Tom, it ought to be unique, which it is most affirmedly not. I see this as a skip, unless you are a total Ford aficionado. I realize that FF is an expression, but it makes TF sound like J *.

anne Avatar

yes, all that that everyone says about the name. that said, the color is fabulous and so is the way it looks on christine. but the price? i have 3 of pat mcgrath’s and that’s as much as i would currently spend.

Kate Avatar

This looks like it lives up to its name but there are so many fabulous reds out there that it gets difficult to justify buying another. My advice to purveyors of ultra-premium lipsticks (and other colour cosmetics): not only should the formula be top notch but your colours should have something about them that makes them stand out from the crowd. If I’m going to pay that sort of money for lipstick, I want the price to reflect both quality and originality.

I find that Guerlain has often been very good at this. Their Rouge G shades do have something to them that makes them look more complex than even the closest dupes. I think it has to do with the pearly finish they favour.

I thought about not even commenting on this post. We all know that there are some really beautiful reds out there and many formula’s that not only wear well but make your lips look better while wearing. Pat McGrath has a wonderful formula in both her Matte Trance and Luxe Trance lippies and they are cheaper.

I have read all the comments and have to say that I agree with the majority that the attention grabbing name is just that and will definitely draw some people in. I don’t think I am a prude but I admit that in my day we didn’t use language like this unless something really warranted it, thus keeping the shock factor for when it was really needed. Is it petty of me to still think that way? I mean if everyone is using the word in every sentence these days, should we all just relax about it? My daughter uses the term pretty frequently and doesn’t see a problem with it. I really hate when she uses it. I think that there is a camp that says it is just an expression like a lot of other expressions and using it isn’t a big deal. I am not part of that camp. I think we have let that type of thinking rule a lot of decision making and frankly, it isn’t helping the situation and it isn’t making the world a better place to live. I read the comment about “pearl clutching” and frankly, I feel like that isn’t a bad thing.

Phoebe Avatar

Maybe it’s just me but I read the name like is was sarcastic, like the phrase fucking fantastic, or fan-fucking-tastic, I really doubt he named it sarcastically. I’m really not bothered by swearing but it’s just a bit of a dumb name
