This Will Draw You in Like a Magnet

Illamasqua Magnetism Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.14 oz.) is described as a “deep raspberry pink.” It’s a raspberry pink-red with a natural glossy sheen. NARS Afghan Red is softer, more of a sheen than a glossy finish. MAC Deliciously Forbidden is pinker. Hourglass Nocturnal is less intense. Guerlain Pour Troubler is redder.

The finish on Magnetism is a first for me, because I remember previous Illamasqua lipsticks I’ve tried as having a matte finish (or even an iridescent but still mostly matte finish). Magnetism has quite the sheen, and as a result, actually feels very unlike the brand’s formula overall. It has a much creamier, more glide-on consistency and feel that doesn’t tug or pull at all, and it’s comfortable and hydrating to wear.  It was really easy to apply the color, but it had a tendency to create lines if you pressed your lips together.  This shade wore five and a half hours and left behind a faint stain. The color coverage was opaque.

Love love love the color on you! I have tried Illamasqua lipsticks before and the dry matte texture was a real drawback. In fact my first lipstick broke when I applied it as I had put too much pressure while swiping it across my lips, it was THAT dry! Glad to see a more workable texture!

You look fantastic! You’re always stunning, but this is gorgeous all the same. Beyond the longer wear time, how does this compare to Revlon Lip Butter in Raspberry Pie?

WOW. This color is just amazing! Is it pink? Is it red? Hard to say, but it’s gorgeous, rich and bright and mood enhancing!
I’ll definitely try it in my Sephora store when it’s released.

Lovely colour. At first glance and looking just at the photos of the lipstick in the tube, I thought it was extremely close to NARS’ Transeurope Express. But, after bringing that one out and comparing, I think the NARS is more dusky rose and softer, while this is more raspberry. I’m tempted! I’m a bit surprised though at the 4.5 rating for longevity; I have a vague memory of you being a bit critical of lipsticks that only lasted around 5 or 5.5 hours,no? Then again, I know you consider a lot of factors, so perhaps the 5.5 duration was not that significant in the long run.

this is a great color, and i’m glad to hear it’s creamier than usual. i’ve stayed away from Illamasqua lipsticks because i was worried about them drying out my lips but this may be an option 🙂

Oh this is making me more depressed that they’re pulling out of Fenwicks. Like I didn’t have enough reasons to mope about that before this piece of pretty came into my view.

How does the colour compare to Illamasqua’s Drench? I already have bought 12 Illamasqua lipsticks in under 3 months…might as well get luck 13.

*siiiiiiigh* Thanks for giving me another lipstick to add to the post-Project Pan list, Illumasqua. This is just too gorgeous of a berry to pass up.

The color is nice, but I hope this doesn’t mean that Illamasqua is moving away from the matte finish…I haven’t found any other lipstick that’s as striking matte as Illamasqua’s, and that’s my favorite lipstick finish. :/

Just stunning!!

Christine, how different is this from MAC+Marcel Wanders Catharina (I believe from 2010)? In terms of color and feel? As I loved and is still deeply in love with that collection’s lipstick formula/finish.

when I saw this lipstick (and the Q collection) on the MYER Australia mini Beauty magazine, I just had to google it on the dot.
I loooove the colour!

I’m sooo excited for them to launch the Q collection, because not only pretty, they actually tried to keep the price in par with the US price.
And they are the first company to do that, I know its for marketing but I should praise their willingness to drop prices.

The lipstick is $25ea in Australia as opposed to $22 from Sephora, but it’s still fair enough!
As a reference, MAC lipstick retails for $36 here as opposed to $15 in the US.

I have never tried Illamasqua product before, but considering they dropped their price, I’m very much willing to! 😀

I know this is unrelated-ish, but did you know this website is just taking your posts? They say it’s from you at the bottom, but it seems so unfair.

Hi Christine,

How would you compare this to Bobbi Brown Cosmic Raspberry? I think BB is much brighter? Sometimes I feel that color is too bright so I wear it on my daring days :)) (FYI, I’m a neutral kind of girl but a little pop of color sometimes gives me that extra confidence!) 🙂

Thanks!

Hi Christine,
You have created such a huge problem for me. Ever since I have started following your blog, I find myself longing for the makeup that looks great on you, specially lipsticks. I have already bought this, a few guerlain ones and still watching out others. Mind you i am not a rich person, these things are wayyyy out of my price range. But cant stop myself. Your lip swatch of guerlain giovanna made me crazy and I have been in search of it, haven’t found it anywhere so far:( and Le metier de beaute’s creme in framboise, it’s not available in Australia and merman Marcus or asks don’t deliver makeup to Australia.
Great blog. Now whatever I need t buy, I see your swatches first.
This lippie looks beautiful on you!
