Illamasqua Magnetism Lipstick Review, Photos, Swatches
Illamasqua Magnetism Lipstick
This Will Draw You in Like a Magnet
Illamasqua Magnetism Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.14 oz.) is described as a “deep raspberry pink.” It’s a raspberry pink-red with a natural glossy sheen. NARS Afghan Red is softer, more of a sheen than a glossy finish. MAC Deliciously Forbidden is pinker. Hourglass Nocturnal is less intense. Guerlain Pour Troubler is redder.
The finish on Magnetism is a first for me, because I remember previous Illamasqua lipsticks I’ve tried as having a matte finish (or even an iridescent but still mostly matte finish). Magnetism has quite the sheen, and as a result, actually feels very unlike the brand’s formula overall. It has a much creamier, more glide-on consistency and feel that doesn’t tug or pull at all, and it’s comfortable and hydrating to wear. It was really easy to apply the color, but it had a tendency to create lines if you pressed your lips together. This shade wore five and a half hours and left behind a faint stain. The color coverage was opaque.

Oh my… *faints* This is stunning! I’m sold! I reaaally love this makeup look on you.
This is beautiful! Damnit. I’m trying to not buy anymore lipstick 🙁
*sigh* ditto!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love love love the color on you! I have tried Illamasqua lipsticks before and the dry matte texture was a real drawback. In fact my first lipstick broke when I applied it as I had put too much pressure while swiping it across my lips, it was THAT dry! Glad to see a more workable texture!
I think the shade is very similar to Maybelline Colorsensational Berry Brilliant from the ‘The Jewels’ range.
Awesome colour, love it! ♥
Wow thats a really bold and powerful shade, looks amazing- I’d so love to try out a different formula, sounds really nice!
Berry pretty Christine!
Such a gorgeous color! Love that it is more hydrating than their other lipstick.
This color is gorgeous on you. You should add it to your personal collection!
You look fantastic! You’re always stunning, but this is gorgeous all the same. Beyond the longer wear time, how does this compare to Revlon Lip Butter in Raspberry Pie?
Quite different – this is more opaque, matte.
love the color I wish it had less sheen
WOW. This color is just amazing! Is it pink? Is it red? Hard to say, but it’s gorgeous, rich and bright and mood enhancing!
I’ll definitely try it in my Sephora store when it’s released.
Lovely colour. At first glance and looking just at the photos of the lipstick in the tube, I thought it was extremely close to NARS’ Transeurope Express. But, after bringing that one out and comparing, I think the NARS is more dusky rose and softer, while this is more raspberry. I’m tempted! I’m a bit surprised though at the 4.5 rating for longevity; I have a vague memory of you being a bit critical of lipsticks that only lasted around 5 or 5.5 hours,no? Then again, I know you consider a lot of factors, so perhaps the 5.5 duration was not that significant in the long run.
If it’s long-wearing, 5-5.5 hours would be dinged, but if it’s a regular lipstick, it’s 25-30% longer than most lipsticks.
You look great in a raspberry lipstick, Christine!
Ooh this is lovely, I think this might be the piece from the collection that I treat myself to!
this is a great color, and i’m glad to hear it’s creamier than usual. i’ve stayed away from Illamasqua lipsticks because i was worried about them drying out my lips but this may be an option 🙂
Absolutely beautiful colour, the finish looks nothing like that from the Illamasque lipstick I own.
This color is so gorgeous on you! I am tempted by this. Very tempted.
Totally gorge and I love a nice creamy feel! I’ve actually never tried an Illamasqua lipstick before, but I may just have to give this one a go.
Oh this is making me more depressed that they’re pulling out of Fenwicks. Like I didn’t have enough reasons to mope about that before this piece of pretty came into my view.
Could this be similar to LM Raspberry Sorbet?
This shade is much darker! http://www.temptalia.com/laura-mercier-raspberry-sorbet-satin-lip-color-review-photos-swatches
How does the colour compare to Illamasqua’s Drench? I already have bought 12 Illamasqua lipsticks in under 3 months…might as well get luck 13.
I don’t think I have Drench 🙁
This color looks great on you!
*siiiiiiigh* Thanks for giving me another lipstick to add to the post-Project Pan list, Illumasqua. This is just too gorgeous of a berry to pass up.
The color is nice, but I hope this doesn’t mean that Illamasqua is moving away from the matte finish…I haven’t found any other lipstick that’s as striking matte as Illamasqua’s, and that’s my favorite lipstick finish. :/
Just stunning!!
Christine, how different is this from MAC+Marcel Wanders Catharina (I believe from 2010)? In terms of color and feel? As I loved and is still deeply in love with that collection’s lipstick formula/finish.
Catharina is much brighter, lighter. The feel is totally different, since Catharina has a glossier finish. http://www.temptalia.com/mac-marcel-wanders-lipstick-review-photos-swatches
The texture looks really comfortable to wear, so creamy. I like it!
wow, so pretty and juicy 😀 i love this kind of lipsticks
Just gorgeous!
Is it just me do it someone else look at the first pic and think this was a gel-lipstick?
I know it’s not. But I want it anyway.
TYPOS!
Is it just me “or did” someone …
Oh my goodness Christine, you can wear practically any lip color and it looks gorgeous on you!!
This is soooo pretty! I adore the color and the finish looks nice.
This color is SO beautiful. I fel like I have a really hard time finding a perfect deep pink raspberry, this may be it.
when I saw this lipstick (and the Q collection) on the MYER Australia mini Beauty magazine, I just had to google it on the dot.
I loooove the colour!
I’m sooo excited for them to launch the Q collection, because not only pretty, they actually tried to keep the price in par with the US price.
And they are the first company to do that, I know its for marketing but I should praise their willingness to drop prices.
The lipstick is $25ea in Australia as opposed to $22 from Sephora, but it’s still fair enough!
As a reference, MAC lipstick retails for $36 here as opposed to $15 in the US.
I have never tried Illamasqua product before, but considering they dropped their price, I’m very much willing to! 😀
Really like it! Still haven’t tried any Illamasqua lipsticks but this one is tempting me.
I know this is unrelated-ish, but did you know this website is just taking your posts? They say it’s from you at the bottom, but it seems so unfair.

Thanks for the heads up!
Hi Christine,
How would you compare this to Bobbi Brown Cosmic Raspberry? I think BB is much brighter? Sometimes I feel that color is too bright so I wear it on my daring days :)) (FYI, I’m a neutral kind of girl but a little pop of color sometimes gives me that extra confidence!) 🙂
Thanks!
Cosmic Raspberry is a bit brighter and pinker!
i don’t mean to be a bother but, how do you think this compares to mac’s girl about town?
Girl About Town is pinker!
Hey Christine,
I absolutely love this colour on you. Was wondering, what lip liner would you use with this lip colour?
Thanks! X
I’m not very familiar with lip liners since I don’t wear them often 🙁
Hi Christine,
You have created such a huge problem for me. Ever since I have started following your blog, I find myself longing for the makeup that looks great on you, specially lipsticks. I have already bought this, a few guerlain ones and still watching out others. Mind you i am not a rich person, these things are wayyyy out of my price range. But cant stop myself. Your lip swatch of guerlain giovanna made me crazy and I have been in search of it, haven’t found it anywhere so far:( and Le metier de beaute’s creme in framboise, it’s not available in Australia and merman Marcus or asks don’t deliver makeup to Australia.
Great blog. Now whatever I need t buy, I see your swatches first.
This lippie looks beautiful on you!
Thank you so much, Mariam! You are too kind 🙂
