Tom Ford Violet Fatale Lip Color Review, Photos, Swatches

Tom Ford Violet Fatale Lip Color ($48.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a semi-opaque fuchsia-shimmered deep raspberry red. It has a natural glossy shine. Revlon Raspberry Pie is redder, less pink, no fuchsia shimmer. NARS Carthage is brighter, pinker. MAC Quite the Thing! is very similar, glossier. NYX Chloe has a fuchsia sheen rather than a shimmer. While the name isn’t much to go off, and one should never really trust a name to be descriptive, I wouldn’t classify this as a violet; this is more of a berry shade overall.

The formula on Violet Fatale is a little different compared to a lot of the other shades I’ve tried by Tom Ford; it has fine shimmer, a thinner consistency, and the finish isn’t the typical creamy, semi-matte finish that much of the range embodies. It’s nice to see something different, though I’m still finding the shade to be more dupeable than not. At this price point, it’s hard to justify a color you’ve seen half a dozen times, you know? The quality of the product is there–it’s long-wearing with six hours of wear, moisturizing (actually, more hydrating than a lot of other shades I’ve tried by the brand), and comfortable to wear.  It has a lightly sweetened vanilla scent (similar to MAC’s) but no taste. The lipstick is housed in a brown and gold, square-shaped tube with the logo carved into the slant of the bullet.

What a beautiful color 🙂 It looks amazing on you. However, I can’t imagine spending $50 on a lipstick. You put together a very beautiful look here. Awesome job Christine 🙂

This is a gorgeous shade but I would have to agree with you, Christine. I can’t justify the price when other brands have very similar shades; I’ll be looking elsewhere!

I agree, the color is nothing new, but it’s a good color nonetheless 🙂 Like you said, if you’ve got the money to spare.. Love it on you though, have to say! 🙂 Thanks for the review x

This shade is really amazing on you, and I think it looks really nice on your lips, I get the squicks from the visual texture of sooo many lip products. I love good berry shades, and as a warm-skinned girl it can be hard to find the right one that looks natural and not too blue. But this one is really lovely. I say it’s well worth the price point for something that looks so nice.

How would you compare this to guerlains rose Bengal r.a? I have virtually no pigment in my lips so it shows up vibrant. It’s such a pretty color, but I’d definitely live a cheaper dupe:)

I love colors like this so much!!  I don’t think the price is outrageous for a great lipstick, just personally not in my current budget so I’ll settle for a less expensive dupe even though it may not be the exact color. Thank you for including dupes in your reviews, it is such a help when comparing colors to what I have or what I want instead!

I know you think the TF lippies are more run-of-the-mill and dupeable than Guerlain G, yet every time I see a picture of you wearing one of their shades, you look fabulous and this is no exception.  I think it has something to do with the texture as well as photographing amazingly well which speaks volumes to their pigmentation.  I love this one on you!!!  I wouldn’t hesitate for a second on a quality lipstick like this one.

Oh, and I am also really loving Nars ‘gaiety’ blush on your cheeks in some of the recent posts.  I wouldn’t have thought that would be a choice for ‘our’ skintone, but it works so well!

I had only used Clinique, Mary Kay, and MAC lipsticks before buying some TF’s (so not touting a huge repertoire of lippie use) and I have to say I really love them. I also found the violet fatale color to be really interesting and unique on me (mufe 117, pale but ery yellow) very opaque, and much more purple than it shows here. It also wears for such a long time, and imparts a good amount of shine without being tacky feeling. I suppose I need to try the Guerlains, some Chanel and any other amazing lipsticks that seem to be must haves, but the softness and pigment on the TF’s has me hooked. I would really like to see their nude vanilla swatched/worn!
