MAC Nude on Board Pro Longwear Bronzing Powder
MAC Hey, Sailor: Pro Longwear Bronzing Powders
MAC Hey, Sailor! Pro Longwear Bronzing Powder ($28.00 for 0.42 oz.) is a new (but limited edition) formula that features two shades: Nude on Board (bronzy, yellow tone) and Sun Dipped (dirty red tone). This new formula promises to yield “sheer-low transparent coverage” with “long wear” and a “natural finish.”
- Nude on Board is a soft light-medium golden tan with subtle gold shimmer-sheen. On my skin tone (about NC30 at the moment), it adds subtle warmth and golden glow. This would be the shade most suitable for light to medium complexions. MAC Soft Sand is darker, redder. MAC GIve Me Sun! is a little more orange.
- Sun Dipped is a light-medium brownish tan with a subtle beige-gold sheen. This shade is a little more buildable than Nude on Board, but it’s still more appropriate for light to medium-dark than medium to dark. I think it could still add a subtle warmth to all complexions, though. MAC Soft Sand is redder. MAC Golden is a little lighter. Chanel Sable Beige is a little yellower, more golden.
Side-by-side, Nude on Board seems lighter and warmer compared to Sun Dipped, which looks a bit dirty, brown, and gray. When swatched, however, the differences get minimized. Nude on Board is distinctly golden, yellow-toned in comparison, but Sun Dipped isn’t really darker, just a little less warm and it has more of a sheen than a shimmer. As I’m writing this review, I’m looking at them side-by-side on my forearm, and in my office lighting, it’s hard to tell them apart. The same is true when they’re applied to the cheeks! Moral of the story: you don’t really need both. I anticipate that cooler complexions may see more of a difference.
The texture of the Pro Longwear Bronzing Powders is very, very soft and smooth–these powders are incredibly finely-milled and feel like silk against the skin. They apply even better; they apply softly, evenly, and blend out effortlessly. It’s almost a creamy feel, because of how silky the powder is. When I tested out the wear, Nude on Board lasted for eight hours without fading or migrating. After ten hours, it was a little faded and patchy.

do you recommend these for people who wear an NC40?
@naohms For a soft warm glow, sure, but if you really want to add color, I don’t think either is going to do very much 🙁
Hi, which one would u suggest for someone who has skin colour nc35? I love them both but not sure which one is better… Thanks for doing these reviews 🙂
@ZoeStellman Probably Sun Dipped.
You are so beautiful Christine! 😀 Thanks for working hyper-speed to get all these reviews up. So far the Sun Dipped bronzer is my favorite item from the collection.
very pretty bronzers, they’d be great for light skintones. i really dont understand fleshtone lipstick — it looks like foundation…
christine these are beautiful i’d better pick ine up.. i cant help but comment that your skin is radiant and flawless. what foundation have you been using while taking these pictures?
@Elizabeth St In these, it was Hourglass Veil I believe!
These bronzers look so nice! I love your lipstick as well, what color is that? 🙂
Lips: MAC Saunter Pro Longwear Lip Pencil.
Love love love Sun DIpped. It’s so soft and smooth, It’s kind of melt into my NW20 skin without any harsh line. I’ve already bought a backup, i just never want to run out of this beautiful color.
With of those do you recommend for NC30 like you? Thanks for your review. I always wait for them before buy anything. Best regards ;*
Witch of those do you recommend for NC30 like you? Thanks for your review. I always wait for them before buy anything. Best regards from Brazil! ;*
Christine, would you recommend any of these for NW 20/25 skin?
Sun Dipped
@Christine (Temptalia) Hi Christine, I’m a NW15 to NW20, very light skin tone, and I’ve already bought online with a friend the Nude on Board shade, but didn’t not get it yet.I’m worried, do you think it’s gonna look weird on my skin tone?Would be better if I had bought the Sun Dipped shade?Thanks!!!
I think it would still work 🙂
I’m looking to buy one of these blushes as a gift for my sister. I’m not a bronzer type of gal, so I don’t really know what’s good or not. Her coloring is similar to yours (NC25-30 with warmer yellow undertones). Personally, if you only had to buy one for yourself, which would you pick? TIA
Sun Dipped is the more natural of the two!
Sorry, forgot to add that I was looking for the more natural looking of the two. Thanks
Hi Christine, formula-wise, how does this compare to the MAC Studio Careblend bronzer? I bought Gold Go Lightly from the Surf Baby collection, and I absolutely love it. I’m not sure I need another bronzer, but I love the way you describe this one. Thanks!
I think they’re similar — Careblends might have a slightly creamier consistency. PLW Bronzer wears slightly better!
They’re really soft – not too dark at all
Hello christine! i was wondering which would fit more and look natural on a nc25-nc30 skintone ? thank you
@anneee Nude on Board
@Christine (Temptalia) Hi Christine, I was wondering if this was the case for all NC25/30? I am trying to determine which bronzer would be most natural for me, and I noticed you mentioned Nude on Board here, but Sun Dipped for another NC25/30 person below. Please clarify! I’m not sure if yellow undertones have an effect on this matter. Thank you!
@Embrace_Joy If you have yellow tones, then Nude on Board 🙂
Thanks Temptalia! 😀
hey,
i’m from germany and i’m nc 15, in summer maybe nc 20 which one is better for me?
thanks for your answer,
stef 🙂
Either really, but maybe Nude on Board would be best.
Hi Christine, I have a more general question about your ratings.. i noticed that most items get a 4/5 score for packaging. What do you look for in order to give it the full 5/5? Thanks!
@cchloe It depends on the type of packaging/product. I look at what materials were used, whether it gets dirty easily/holds fingerprints, durability, functionality, portability, etc. Most plastic packaging will always be around 4/5 unless there is something extra that makes it better. Metal would be closer to 5/5 but usually holds fingerprints, which ends up making metal packaging more likely to be around 4 or 4.5/5. Rubberized packaging tends to be closer to 5/5.
Hi Christine, I just have a quick question. I am NC25/30 and I was wondering which of these bronzers would be the most natural for me. I browsed through the comments and noticed that you rec’d NoB for one fellow NC25/30 (Anneee) and SD for another NC25/30 (Tiffany). Just wanted to clarify which you thought was best! TIA
Nude on Board if you have yellow undertones!
You apply bronzer so well!! Mine never looks like that! 😛
Hi Christine,
I just want to say that based on this review I chose “sundipped” and got it in the mail yesterday. I have fair/medium skin with pink undertones and this is the first bronzer I have ever tried that just…..works on me, you know? It gives a nice healthy glow without any glitter or other stuff that I didn’t want or need. It’s just perfect so thanks for all you do in helping us choose what looks best for our skin tones…..
T
Yay!! 🙂 So happy for you, Terri!
Bought this bronzer in Sundipped. Both colors are gorgeous and the texture is by far the best! First bronzer I have felt that doesn’t feel dry and chalky! IN LOOOVVVVEEE!!!!
Is Sun Dipped too light for an NC42 skintone?
I’m confused which one would look best on me. I wear Clinique BB cream in shade 2 and the redness reducer in calming fair. Do you think the Sundipped one fore me?
Yes!
@Christine (Temptalia) Thanks!
I was wondering if you thought that Sundipped would be best for me? I wear clinique redness reducer foundation in Calming Fair and their BB cream in shade 2. I am not sure what my skin tone is but tend to wear more gold colors but silver looks good too. 😉 Thanks for your advice!
i like nude on board better. Do you think it suits for contouring? I’m conflicted between this and MAC’s blush in Harmony. they say matte tones are better to contour. but idk, do you think its necessary to have both? XX
It could, but I, too, find matte contours to look more natural. Have you tried MAC Sculpt?
Hi Christine,
I’m loving Nude on Board and I am tempted to buy a back-up since its LE. Before I hit buy, are there any dupes for it?
@kiwiblossom I can’t think of a dupe for the overall feel/finish!
A MAC consultant recommended Sun Dipped for me, I’m a little hesitant about buying it seeing as I am a NW46. He is convinced that it will look nice though..
@JasmineSmith I own it and it looks like dirt on my skin.. just plain dirt.I got it because it was recommended for light to medium skin tones (and mine is light).. Seems to me they need to check what tone it is really for. XD But.. test it out before you buy it.. that’s for sure. I don’t know if it’d look like dirt on a darker skin than mine but.. that shimmer isn’t reassuring to me.Nude on Board, on the other hand is getting great reviews i see. Should have gotten it instead, i suppose.
I never really “got” why there are so many bronzers out there…they don’t do much for me XD. Nude on Board looks nice, though.
I opted for “Sun Dipped” for my light skin but, like i told Jasmine, it just looks like dirt on my skin. No matter how light handed i am.. nothing works to make it look better.Any ideas? 🙁
