Urban Decay Naked 1 vs. Naked 2 Palette Dupes & Comparison Swatches
- Foxy doesn’t have any comparable shades in Naked 1.
- Half Baked is a repeat from Naked 1, so yes, there is a dupe–in fact, it’s 100% the same!
- Booty Call is a peachier version of Virgin (Naked 1), but they’re really, really close. It’s just slightly warmer.
- Chopper is more orange than Sidecar (Naked 1); I wouldn’t say they’re dupes, but they’re not totally different.
- Tease doesn’t have any dupes, because it’s matte, so it doesn’t really appear the same as contenders like Sin and Toasted (both from Naked 1).
- Snakebite is not as golden as Smog (Naked 1), but it’s nowhere near as dark as Darkhorse (Naked 1); however, if you mix both Smog and Darkhorse together, you get something rather similar.
- Suspect is just a little more beige compared to Sidecar (Naked 1).
- Pistol doesn’t have any comparable shades in Naked 1.
- Verve doesn’t have any comparable shades in Naked 1.
- YDK looks pretty similar to both Sidecar and Toasted (both from Naked 1), and Sidecar is closer.
- Busted is very, very similar to Hustle (Naked 1); at best, it might be a little less red-toned. It’s not like Darkhorse (Naked 1), though.
- Blackout doesn’t have any comparable shades in Naked 1.

Pistol is sort of unique…it’s a great shade. Hope they release it as a single shade.

Looking at your swatches, Christine, Pistol seems a lot like Urban Decay’s Mushroom from BOS II which is an HG e/s for me. How do they compare in your opinion?
The packaging is tempting me, but I’m holding off on buying Naked 2 because there’s a rumor that UD is coming out with an all matte palette in January 2012. Heard anything about that, by any chance?

Mushroom is less brown, perhaps a touch darker. Pistol is very brown!

The eyeshadows were made in USA, assembled in Dominican Republic; brush was made in China.
I have heard the rumour about the matte palette for spring 2012 too.

I’m very cool toned and I’ve found that the Naked (1) palette compliments my skin really nicely, actually! I have very fair skin, blue eyes, and almost black hair, and the golds and warm browns really make my eyes pop. I’ve used all the colors heavily over the last year and they all look beautiful. I do agree with both you and Christine, though. I would have liked to see more cool-toned colors in Naked 2. Thank you for the review and comparison swatches! I ordered it, but now I’m thinking I might return it…

I agree. NYX has the ‘Butt Naked’ palette {what an awful name!} in which the color selections are the more cool-toned taupe shadows that I was hoping for in the Naked2 palette. Oh well. Maybe Urban Decay will hear the cries for a truly cooler toned palette.

A lot of people are saying they’re too similar, but I think the shades that ARE different make it worth purchasing. I can come up with so many different looks using some of the new shades. I mean… you can never have too many palettes. Or I just have a problem.
There are five shades that aren’t – I don’t think I said the palettes are 100% the same, but there are a fair amount of similarities that make it less appealing if someone doesn’t have $50 to spend. 🙂
Oh, I didn’t mean you said that… I just meant what I’ve heard online and in conversation with my friends. You make an excellent point, but it’s going on my Christmas wish list and if I don’t get it then I can wait until I have the money to splurge. This palette is definitely NOT a necessity, just a nice addition. (Pistol, Snakebite, Blackout, and Verve)

Pointless! If someone already has Naked 1, i wouldnt see a valid reason to get Naked 2 at all! Other than for Blackout.
Blackout is such a great shade, but if you’re totally into neutrals, it can be pretty hard to work with – it’s SO black. I tried to use it as an eyeliner with the neutrals, and it just looked too much.

I just bought my naked palette..they already have naked2? ..o gosh..love the blackout color, naked1 would have been perfect with a dark matte black
Both are permanent, so there’s no rush or reason to feel like you missed out 🙂

Hmmm, since I have Naked 1, I think the only color I really want from Naked 2 is Pistol. That The Balm dupe you suggested looks pretty close, so if I buy a second “nudes” palette, I’ll probably buy The Balm’s Nude palette rather than the second Naked palette – it looks nicer and it’s cheaper, too!
That’s a good idea – I think those two palettes have more differences than similarities, but both are good quality/values.
I’m torn, overall it doesn’t seem worth it for a Naked 2 but put the 2 together and I do prefer Blackout to Creep. I like the addition of cooler tones but the warm shades are just too similar. some of those pictures almost look like you swatched your arm twice with the same color… Is the Naked brush similar to the Naked 2 brush in any way?
I don’t have the Naked brush – mine is from the original launch, with the dual-ended eyeliner.

Wow, thank you for your hard work on these comparisons. It’s a shame that the two palettes are almost exactly the same. I have Naked 1, but I don’t think I’ll be spending $50 for the Naked 2 palette for colors that look almost identical.
Your swatch of Smog and Darkhorse is identical to snakebite. Blackout is amazing, but there are so many good black colors out there. I wish they had come out with colors that were not so similar.
It was kind of funny about Smog and Darkhorse – Smog is pretty close on its own, and Darkhorse I knew wouldn’t be close, and I was like… well maybe together… and they’re right next to each other in the palette, LOL!
I dunno. I see enough subtle differences that I’ll probably end up getting it anyway. I am a sucker for these…

I lot of the darker shades on Naked 1 are too warm and look really strange on me. I hardly wear it anymore. I do wish they had done a cool-toned version. I’ll be passing on this.

They should have gone a different route with Naked 2. The colors are too similar to Naked 1 to warrant spending $50 on it. Although I do like the double-ended brush.
Since they’re both permanent, I would have expected the same. If Naked 1 had been limited and coveted, I could understand more overlapping shades.

Man, on the one hand, there are WAY too many dupes. On the other, the nice sturdy metal packaging and the double-ended brush (not to mention lip junkie, because that is the ONLY lipgloss I have ever really loved) make it really tempting. But my Naked 1 is definitely used and unsellable, and I don’t want to have 2 of the same! I think I have to pass on it. But I may have to pick it up for a friend who’s been lemming the original naked palette and travels constantly!

It’s hard to determine what exactly their intentions were with this palette. My guess is that they are trying to market this as an option for those who didn’t purchase/weren’t interested in the Naked palette the first time around, seeing as there are a lot of similarities between both palettes, but different enough to invoke some interest in people who haven’t gotten their hands on Naked 1.
Would’ve loved to have seen some cooler tones, but I still think that regardless of the amount of difference between the two, it’s a gorgeous palette.
Surprised, though, since Naked 1 is still permanent as far as I know!

When I heard the Naked 2 Palette came out, I rushed to see where I could purchase it. Didn’t read a single review, just saw a picture of it online. Luckily I stopped by Temptalia to read more about it because the shades are way too similar to the original palette. The side-by-side comparisons justify that perfectly. Will I still by it? Of course! I love Urban Decay and one can never have too many palettes 😛

I really like pistol & busted. I bought blackout a while back as my matte black for smokey eyes & loved. I did purchase this palette, yes it’s expensive & very similar to the first, but I love neutrals & this palette looks great. Thanks for the swatches Christine!

So similar. You can make the original palette into any of the shades in #2, w/ the exception of the black. If you have a few more UD colors, you can duplicate any in #2. Not getting this. Same as the Cowboy quad,similar to the other cowboy quad, from 2 years ago, w/ romp in it. I wish they would do something else. =)

Overall, based on the swatches, I don’t think I’ll get it since I have Naked 1. Some of the shades in 2 intrigue me, but there are just too many similarities to spend $50.
If it was truly a taupe palette, I’d be all over it. Too me, it seems more like honey/copper browns than taupe O_o
I don’t even feel like any shade in the palette is a TRUE taupe!
yepp not so different.. If i’m not mistaken, doesn’t Naked 1 have a primer potion included? so that’s the biggest differens in my eyes 😉
The Naked Palette is still on my wishlist, but I don’t think that I will get it… I come from sweden and the range of brands is guite small,, and that we have is expensive! A lipstick from Mac costs 30 $!!! and can only be bought in the three biggest cities and on ONE online store… we can’t buy urban decay online or in stores… if I ever go to the US I will pack one set of clothes and buy make up like there no tomorrow ;P but thank god for international shipping 😉

The colors that don’t have similar shades to the Naked 1 palette are for the most part pretty, but I’m going to have to agree and say why the heck would they release a palette so similar to the original??? Makes no sense. People who own the Naked 1 (and obviously those who don’t own it) will still buy this just to have it, but I feel like a lot more purchases and excitement would come out of a totally different palette.

It’s basically the same, I’ll stick to my original naked palette.
There are a few differences, so if someone liked you know, like 3-4 shades, it’s still a good deal, but you definitely don’t HAVE to have two!
When I heard about the second Naked Palette everyone’s opinions seemed almost irrelevant. I had to wait for your two cents to get the best review. Thanks for all the time you put into your blog and videos Christine! You are my authority on all things beauty!

I’m a sucker for neutrals. I have a mostly neutral MAC palette and the Naked 1 palette, but I want this too! I feel like, because I have the most fair skin ever, most shades will appear a bit differently on me because all colors really do show up true on my lids. These colors are so beautiful, and I knew that when my original Naked runs out, I’d purchase another. But if I get the 2nd, I won’t have to re-purchase the exact same one again. 🙂 I think the differences are excellent! Thank you for the wonderful post.

C- you do the best swatches. I was “lusting” on this until I saw your comparison. I was hoping that N2 would have more matte finishes. If more were like tease & black out I would be sold.
I have plenty of MAC neutrals to create natural looks & I just bought a matte black.
Plus $50 for this when N1 was $46 just doesnt justify it to me.

I have Naked 1, but I don’t wear most of the colors on the right side of the palette(Darkhorse, creep, Gunmetal) and I really dislike Toasted, so even though it seems like the consensus is that it’s similar, I think I’ll enjoy Naked 2 more(blackout is a must have)I’m glad I was able to snag it before it sold out.

Yep, it is permanent! I think if you have 1, you don’t have to have 2. It’s nice but not necessary. There’s still a lot of value in the palette, so if you like a few shades, it’s worth it.

Is it me, or does anyone else feel like urban decays palettes are all starting to look the same as each other? The two naked palettes look identical just a 1-2 shades off with only a couple of new colours, but overall its the same concept. And the book of shadows all looked the same to me. I think they just hope the hype is going to make sales. Im glad i didnt buy the first palette as i have tons of neutral shades, and im even happier that im going to skip the second palette.

I just bought Naked 1 two weeks ago!! Now I have to go and get Naked 2. I was hoping there wouldn’t be any shades I had to have, but alas I must own Verve and Pistol. My poor aching wallet…

This palette appears to be less dark than the Naked 1. Surprised that there are some shades are almost the same. I guess some people with fairer skin tone will appreciate this. But why UD raised their price up one more time. From $44 to $48 and now $50. Is it because of the double ended brush?
Yes, I imagine it’s the brush – $44 was because it was a dual-ended eyeliner (1 eyeliner is $17), then $48 because they had the brush (which was $24, I believe). One of the brush ends is normally $26 on its own.

Yep – if you just glance at the two together, they don’t seem too similar, but when you rearrange the colors so they’re near similar shades, they are.
It’s new and it’s Urban Decay so I can’t resist… Fortunately for me, it’s going to be a few months before it makes its way to the UK so I *may* change my mind by then 😛

The new palette looks a bit cooler in tones than the first Naked palette. Is the color Tease anything like MAC’s Haux or Quary? What skin tones do you think would look with the colors in this palette?
Yes, it’s similar to Quarry – I mentioned dupes in the review post! 🙂 This would work best for warmer skin tones.
If they would have put Naked 1 in Naked 2 packaging at the beginning it would’ve been the best palette ever. Now I own Naked 1 and I absolutely don’t need the second one, although the packaging is way better.

Thanks so much for the swift, excellent work: you do the best swatches that I’ve seen, and I wasn’t about to buy this before seeing those – and your opinion on the shadows’ quality. This one’s such a shame. I was really hoping for a decent scattering of mattes and shimmers, but this is too frosted and glittery for my skin – and the warms are too bright for my neutral-leaning-warm colouring. The punchline? My favourite shade was Tease! :/
Oh well. theBalm’s matte palette will console me. 🙂
LOL – I had high hopes for Tease. It would have been a nice crease shade, on its own or underneath something else.
For sure! And, by the looks of it, a perfect dupe for my favourite shade from Guerlain’s Rue de Passy. But then, the more I look at it, the more Rue de Passy feels like a very refined version of Naked 1. Madness. 🙂

I was also hoping for a cool toned version of the original palette. I have really pale skin so these goldy-orange colors look really awful on me, which is why I steered away in the first place. I like this second palette better than the first, at least there’s some matte and more neutral tones, but overall they look too similar. Think I will pass.

I have Naked 1 which I’ve worn almost every day since I got it but I’m not getting Naked 2. Not enough new shades to justify $50 and the shades in this on wouldn’t work as well for me.
Naked 1 is a great palette – love it for travel!

I’m glad that i didn’t order this. I was hoping for more mattes and a different shade selection. Im happy that I saved money because I just bought thebalm shady lady palettes in vol 2 & 3 and i also bough thebalm’s nude pallette.

Hmm….Ok, after checking out your comparison swatches there is only one to two shades that don’t have a similar enough match in the NP1 (or elsewhere…actually, if we factor in “elsewhere” I’m totally covered), no need to pick it up after all. Though I will say I prefer the packaging of NP2 over NP1. Just asthetics. Metal will always make me happier than funky velvet.

No, I prefer the velvet packaging. In fact, I bought 6 Naked I with the duo end pencils. It doesnt feel so cold like a pencil box. Just brush the velvet with a moist cloth if it catches too much lint..The velvet just feels so luxe. I am not getting the Naked II for these reasons.
Yep, you and like five other people (ok, ok, it’s probably a majority). :p I dunno what it is, I just lean more towards clean lines, metals, and stuff like that. Despite being a girl I definitely prefer things designed by, or for, a more masculine sensibility. It’s weird. Doesn’t have anything to do with it getting fuzzies on it (I pamper my nicer palettes so they’re all clean), but it just doesn’t feel as nice in my hands like metal, or that faux-snakeskin material Lorac uses, or glass (not that anyome makes a glass palette…). Heft. i like heft. And also the gold lettering is getting a little cracked from the travel abuse.
Oh, I did want to come back and make another comment on the NP2. I showed the boy your post comparing the two and he said “That seems like a total scam. They’re basically the same thing! Why would they do that?” *lol* He already doesn’t understand why/how certain makeup items can be expensive and doesn’t see the value in them, but to see two separate palettes with almost all the same colors… that totally set off his b.s. meter.
LOL! We all know why, but we definitely don’t like it.

Which eyeshadow from the Naked 2 palette looks the closest to Urban Decay’s Shadow Intense in Stray Dog? It’s my fave taupe but we don’t have Urban Decay in my country so I have to order off Sephora through Amazon (cuz neither Sephora nor Urban Decay ship internationally) and our teeny tiny Sephora in Kuwait is abysmal (if only Sephora’s HQ knew what goes on over here, the sales assistant’s know next to nothing about their products, the prices are triple what they are in the states (no, seriously triple) as if Sephora wasn’t pricey enough, and worst of all they look appalled if you ask for samples even if you drop KD300 which is more or less $1,000 US, oh and you can’t return or exchange items no matter what, Fun!) so I’m looking for a Stray Dog dupe. I’m getting Naked 2 for sure either way but please lemme know which one is closest to Stray Dog in Naked 2 and (any other brand if possible).
No matter how much I pack on stray dog with MAC’s 239 brush, it’s still a lovely taupe whereas Satin Taupe looks too dark on me unless I use MAC’s 224 and a light hand. Chanel’s Taupe Gris is lovely but not quite the same as Stray Dog.
For reference, I’m an NC40 even though I’m told I’m NC35-37, olive-skinned but coppers and browns make me look sickly but at the same time pink blushes make me look greener and baby pink lipsticks sadly have a lilac tone on me whereas tragically hot pinks (candy yum yum, show orchid, petals and peacocks, etc.. look purple on my lips. Even the makeup artist at MAC was confused when I swatched Angel lipstick.
Like many others, I look up to you and Dusty, so please any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I didn’t realize how similar most of the colors are until I saw your side-by-side swatches. I absolutely love Verve and Pistol, but I don’t think those two colours are worth getting the entire palette for.
Yep – at a glance, the two don’t look THAT similar, but side-by-side, yes, very much so. I had a feeling it would be that way! I saw photos of the two palettes next to each other and didn’t think they were this similar.
Aw boo – I was hoping for more colors that would work with my skintone…although I do like Snakebite & Blackout
Also, I’m suffering from serious makeup withdrawal – can’t wait until I’m back home in the states & can go shoooooooop till I drop 🙂 I think I’m finally going to splurge and get the Naked 1 😀

They’re so similar that it’s laughable. Someone should inform Urban Decay that switching the order of the shadows and tweaking them to the bare minimum will not cut it. I do love the matte black but, I have an Inglot eyeshadow and MAC pigment that look just as black. Thank goodness for Temptalia!

Wow… Thanks for the thorough in-depth comparison of these 2 palettes, Christine. You just saved my husband & I $50 lol. I already have Naked 1 and the 15th Anniversary palette which contains Blackout. Considering both Naked 1 and Naked 2 contain Half Baked and several of the shades are very similar in both palettes, I think I’m good. I do like that UD included a double ended brush in this new one, but I’m glad they left the Blackout out of Naked 1. I agree with you — it’s much too harsh when put with all the lighter colors. I so wanted to get excited over this palette because it’s turning into a series thing… But I’m a little too disappointed with UD’s color choices :(.

Whichever one has the shades you’d use most in – I prefer Naked 1, but I find Naked 2’s quality is just good and Naked 1 was great 🙂

I was seriously hoping that this second palette would be A LOT different than the first one. I swear when i got the email I immediately thought, “wth it’s the same exact palette!” I love that you swatched all the colors to show the similarities. My gut wants to say I won’t get this palette… but the makeup lover in me says I need it just to say I have it in my collection. Hahaha Though in all honesty why didn’t they change it up!?

But then going back and looking at the shades from Naked 1 (which I don’t own) I feel better. I like the shades from Naked 2 and I already have 3 shades from Naked 1 in the Fun and Dangerous palettes (Sin, Virgin, and Gunmetal). So yay!

I really like Urban Decay, but I will never understand why the Naked palette became so popular. Naked 2 looks like a rehash of the same muddy, overly frosty shades with too much fall-out and not enough variety to be appealing. Thank you for reviewing this though, Christine; I had wanted to purchase Naked 2 for my olive-skinned, brown-eyed friend for Christmas (the colors would work for her) and now I don’t have to head out to Sephora.

It just depends on your budget – if you have unlimited funds, sure, get both, but if it’s going to be your one item for the month, then no!
The reason I wanna try UD1 because of primer potion and eyeshadow but for me UD2 is good only for the package.

Ah, thank you for your review. I guess I’ll have to reedit my own blog to say that I might not get this after seeing your review. Pity that the shades are so close to each other. Naked 1 retails for 175 in my currency…so I’m not sure if it’s worth forking out another 175 or so for Naked 2.

I like the comparison swatches. It is almost as though UD tweaks the color a little bit and then puts a catchy name to make it appear “new”. UD is my new found love of eyeshadow colors. Their shades just work well with me.

omg..I’ve had this palette for 3 days now..LOVE..it is more than I expected. On me,it is cool/neutral..Half Baked is the warmest color,but still fairly neutral. I know Chopper has issues with fallout,but if you use your finger and pat it on,I find it doesn’t have the fallout vs using a brush.Pistol and Snakebite are my favorites in this palette. Blackout is the perfect black..goodbye MAC Carbon. I am happy,happy,happy.

Naked 1 is better, IMO – but it has better quality!
I love your reviews; yours are pretty much the only ones I ever read. However, I know that, IMO at least, the colors in the photos aren’t so accurate. You have Sidecar, YDK and Toasted swatched side by side, and in the photo, they all look the same. However, Sidecar and Toasted are sooooo different in person. I think that once people get to see the Naked2 palette in person, more will want to buy it.
Sidecar and Toasted are not dupes of each other, but they are similar – and in the photo, Sidecar is not the same as Toasted; Toasted is a little redder and darker. They’re not the same, but they aren’t completely different on me – and I’ve seen them with my own eyes on me. I spend hours and hours taking dozens of photos, rechecking photos, reswatching, comparing while I’m editing to ensure accuracy. Perhaps your skin tone is different, so the undertones of certain colors can become more pronounced.
Can you swatch naked and buck from naked 1 next to tease from naked 2??
They’re not alike – both of those are very brown, Tease has mauve/plum in it! 🙂 You can see them all in the Swatch Gallery!

Question: is the Naked 2 palette age-appropriate for my 48-year-old mom or would you think it may be too “flashy?”

lets be honest here, the only really different ones are verve blackout and pistol. and pistol is kind of ugly… and blackout is in the 15h anniversary palette. plus verve is basically the same idea as midnight 15 from the 15th anniversary, and im sure most have a shimmery champagne color in their collection. there is absolutely no way anyone needs this palette, given they have NAKED 1, especially if they also have the 15th anniversary palette. but, UD is going to make huge amounts of money on it just because of the novelty. i would have loved to see a completely different set of neutrals in which i could warrant having both, because i love the original naked palette, and neutrals. however, there is no way UD is getting $50 from me for basically an exact duplicate.
They could have done something very different for sure!
Maybe it’ll go on sale 🙂

I really love your comparison between the two. Sigh* I hope they come out with a palette that combines the best of both palettes. I love buck and naked from the first palette, I think they should have more matte shades because there’s still too much shimmer in the 2nd palette. I love the naked1 more, but am envious of the 2 headed brush in naked 2, and also the matte black shade – blackout! Great review!

very good and thorough review!! I am a new comer to make up. I recently went to Sephora for a make up tutorial and they used naked 1 on me, i want to buy one. I seen naked 2 now… I read all your messgaes and seen you said prefer naked 1 but could you give me a DETAILED answer of why. If it helps I am african-american but i am light skin…(beyonce Skin color)…please help me make the right decision.

So I’m pretty new to makeup, and I want to buy a neutral palette (For special occasions and going out). I’m Asian and I’m a bit tan, so my yellow undertones are not as prominent but they are still there. Which palette do you recommend? Naked 1 or 2? Or any other ones? Also, what brushes do you think are essential but moderately priced? (keeping in mind that I’ll use this two or three times a month) Thank you and sorry for bombarding you with so many questions!
I would go for 1 myself! Brushes? You could try EcoTools or Sonia Kashuk until you figure out what brushes you use often!
I wish I saw this before I placed my order. 😉 as I have my Naked and I Love it and I wonder if I really need the 2. ;\ Oh well there’s always return 😉

I had a question…I wanted to buy Naked 1 but I didn’t. With naked 2 out, can you suggest whether I should go for Naked 1 and the 15th anniversary palette or Naked 2 and the 15th anniversary palette. I have been eyeing the 15th annv one for a long time. Also, what do you think about Sleek palette storm? Doesn’t it look similar to Naked 1?
I would say Naked 1 and 15th. I don’t have Sleek.

In Singapore, makeup is super duper expensive (just like Australia). And I don’t wanna waste my money on both just to get a couple of different shades. SO which 1 of the 2 palettes do you think i should get?

I’ve actually been wanting this, but after looking at many reviews and swatches, I’m not craving much for it. I like the first Naked palette better that I think I might just end up buying another one as a backup lol.

Honestly, Pistol and Foxy are the only shades I’m interested in. My downfall is that I am such a UD junkie that I buy literally all palettes just to have them.

I do not post many comments but I do appreciate the kind work of Christine she places so much effort in keeping this blog up to date with so much in the beauty world.
I have a lot of make up and purchased the First Naked palette 2 weeks ago.
On a personal level I had to get real with my make up purchases and really use all from my make up.A year ago I made a decision to start rotating all of my make up systematically so that I looked up all of my products which meant all of the things I may have only used once or twice.
It’s therapeutic in a way as it feels as though someone has brought you a present.
That is why I have only just purchased the first palette.I have found this palette compliments a matt professional palette which I also use.I have learnt how to mix basic shades to make certain shades.I think Christine will agree that if you get creative with some basic shades you leave a lot to the imagination.Ladies, really have a look at what you have get creative as you can mix so so much before you part with your money in these hard times.
Finally, Christine, you do a wonderful review and put your heart and soul in to every thing.
So although I may not leave many comments I do read them all.

I like that you swatched Half-Baked from both palettes! Haha… seriously, this is the best Naked vs Naked2 review I’ve seen. Thank you for swatching the similar colors–just eyeballing the palettes raises a lot of dupe questions but seeing them like this really helps! Everyone that owns the original Naked wants to know if Naked2 is worth getting too. With the exceptions of Pistol and Busted, I would say no. But if I didn’t have either, I would pick Naked2.

Your review was great! The comparison really helped in my decision. There are so many similar colors that I find that it’s just not worth it. I would’ve like to see the 2nd compliment the first. If there is a matte coming out, I’ll just wait for that. I also wish that they kept the potion with it.

I prefer Naked 1, but I prefer great quality over just good.
I prefer the original but they’re both amazing. If you like cool taupe tones go for 2, if you prefer warm toned colors def get the original. A couple of naked 2’s colors don’t show well on me- like foxy doesnt show and booty call is so light I can only use it as a high light. With those complaints aside, I adore naked 2.

Sooooo love the colors, kinda sucks how they reused some of the colors, but hey, i totally wouldn’t mind having more of it since i use it so frequently. lol
question though, is Naked 2 permanent for the urban decay line? that way i know i really dont have to fight someone in the store for it. i signed up for the email list when it restocks but by the time i get it it sells out sooooo quickly lol.

I loved seeing the colors from different palettes side by side. Thanks for posting this! I like the original a teeny bit better but it really is a close call. I like that the original has more warm colors. I like to use warm and darker colors for smoky looks. If you don’t want to spend the $98 for both, do what I do and ask for sephora gift cards for christmas and your bday 🙂

Honestly, I can’t justify spending another $50 on a very similar palette. There looks to be only about two very different shades from the original palette. After seeing your swatches, thanks by the way, I’ll just keep enjoying what I have. The original is gorgeous and if ever I need a black shade, I’m sure I could find a good one without spending $17. I have my eye on the Loreal HIP in platinum duo, which is a gorgeous silver and black combo at a great price on Amazon. Still thinking on it. 🙂

Hey Christine, your blog is awesome! This post especially was super helpful.
And I realize I’m a little late to be jumping the gun, but I think I found a cheaper dupe of Chopper. (Which is my favorite shade here, based on your swatches.) But anyway, the potential is L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Amber Rush. It’s a loose eyeshadow with a similar shade and finish, but it’s missing the micro-glitter. Just FYI 🙂

Naked 1 will work on your complexion, I’d say. I don’t think that Naked 2 is so different that one would FOR SURE work so much better for you than the other.

olivia, i have darker olive asian skin. i look good in purple but not orange. I have no idea which one to get naked 1 or naked 2. Lik Christine, I have been debating for so long. i am also older and i’m wondering if perhaps shimmer and glitter shadows are something i should be staying away from? (as in do i stick to the matte shades instead?) This one mean perhaps I should buy the matte shades separately? I am confused and any guidance would help. I also feel more comfortable wearing less color…I like to blend in with my brown clothing (example). However, I don’t own any blue or green eye shadow (which is from naked 1). I bought the Naked 1 when it first came out and ended up returning it because all of the colors seemed to get a bit of a greenish undertone on my skin. (I have medium skin with beige undertones). I wonder if the Naked 2 would have less of a tendency to look greenish on me?
Possibly, but it’s still rather similar, so I don’t know if it would make a huge difference.

If you are very warm, 1 is most flattering, while 2 is still flattering, it is just slightly less warm (but still warm overall). Both palettes work across skin colors, tones, ages, eye colors, etc.

Hello there! I have strong yellow undertones(asian) and I tan very easily in the summer seasons but I have fair-light skin during the winter seasons. I have really dark brown eyes and brown hair. And I’m really having a hard time which one to get. I prefer smokey eye looks because it’s not that it doesn’t show on me, but my eye features or eye bone structure ( I can’t explain it well) is not that strong. Thanks.

Hi Christine, I know I’m a bit late with the whole Urban Decay naked palette hype but I really want one now, I’m a nc40 so I’m very warm toned but I like wearing makeup that appears very natural, so which of the two palettes would you recommend; the original or the 2? 🙂
