Giorgio Armani #604 Plum Gloss d'Armani Review, Photos, Swatches

Giorgio Armani #604 Plum Gloss d’Armani
Giorgio Armani #604 Plum Gloss d’Armani ($28.00 for 0.22 fl. oz.) is described as “bold amethyst.” It’s a sheer grape purple, and when applied to lips, it looks like a cool-toned plum-purple. It reminded me of Illamasqua Fierce when it swatched, but they’re nothing alike on the lips. I couldn’t think of any other potential gloss dupes.
It doesn’t look nearly as purple applied as it does swatched, because the natural pinkness of my lips (which are already rather corpse-like to begin with) peeks through and makes this shade more wearable than it appears. It looks super, super dark in the tube, but don’t let it fool you–it’s a sheer gloss. Giorgio Armani described it as “vivid yet so translucent on application that it matches any skin tone,” and it’s true; there’s definite color, plenty of pop and oomph, but there’s a translucency there that makes the gloss look a bit different from person to person, depending on their natural lip color. I’m torn; I kind of dig the way the color looks on lips from afar, but my lips almost look diseased up close, because it does not apply evenly and the color has a tendency to settle into lip lines.
Though you’ll see disappointing marks for longevity, it’s only because the brand claims eight hours of wear (without fading!), and I’ve never managed to hit that marker; I get to around six with darker shades, five or so with lighter shades. Don’t get me wrong–it’s excellent wear for lipgloss (because this is really lipgloss, it’s not a liquid lipstick), but it does fall short of their claim. The texture feels like a gel, and while it feels non-sticky initially, I find it gets tackier as you wear it.

The Colour is pretty but urrghh…..the settling in lines is so disappointing!
Yes, settling is a no-no 🙁
I see what you mean about the closeup looking a bit odd, but still, very pretty lipgloss. very pretty with your colouring too.
It can definitely be a pretty shade, just wish it didn’t settle so much!
It should look really good on top of a lipstick.
It definitely could – if the lipstick was pretty dense!
Over Armani lipstick number 604 this gloss (604) looks fine, and its moisturizing, as this liPstick can be drying, I apply it over lipbalm, but when I touch up it’s very drying- the price you pay for long wear, but with this gloss it works fine! I usually try make up before buying, wear it for a while, with this one I shouldn’t have doneso cos they ran out of it, but this gloss is on my must have list now! Very lovely, esp with 604 lipstick as it doesn’t turn it browner or warmer or darker or lighter as other glosses do.
Good to know!
Very interesting!
I believe this is one of these lip glosses that can be used alter the color of a lipstick
Yes, it would be more wearable over a lipstick!
You can really pull this one off, Christine. My pigmented lips have a rose berry undertone and all I can think of is the color would not mix well with my own lip color.
Thanks, Debra! Hmm, I wonder if it would be even prettier with more of a red undertone 🙂
If I saw this on the counter I would immediately think it was a mascara or an eyeliner. I would totally ignore it after finding out it’s a lip gloss, but after seeing it on you I really like it, I bet it would look really nice over a pale pink lipstick.
LOL, not quite!
Ooh, it’s pretty on you from afar! I see the issues with it up close! I, too, have slightly corpse-like lips, but I love it! Haha! =)
Yep – it’s wearable enough, but just depends on how close you’re getting haha!
For some reason this just reminds me of when someone gets out of a pool and they’re cold so they’re lips turn bluish-purple.
LOL, that does not sound sexy.
It looks beautiful on you! I just got this too and am also on the fence about it. One thing I noticed is that it has a rather strong and unpleasant scent … does yours as well? Thanks!
No scent for me!
This actually looks really good, not what I expected at all.
Glad you liked it, Kelly!
Based on your initial reviews of this formula I bought a beautiful shimmery mauve and love it to pieces. I don’t care for this color, though. At least on my skin it would be impossible to wear.
What # was it? I love a lot of the shades they have!
oh…looks bad cause it settles in the lip lines:(
Yeah 🙁
Too bad it is a bit uneven, because I absolutely love the color!
I know! It’s wearable over a gloss, but just not on its own!

Ugh, it’s SO pretty. But thirty bucks for it is a no-go!
Although I know you like Gloss d’Armani overall based upon your earlier review, I haven’t liked them at all (I have three). They lose pigment almost immediately on me, becoming a somewhat sticky product that, while not budging for hours, have little more than a hint of color. They are the first Armani product I haven’t liked.
Weird – I have no problem with the pigmentation lasting for hours, though I have mentioned in all the reviews that it is sticky and gets stickier over time!
Nope.
i love it, id wear it daily and layered over my illamasqua kontrol lippy
shame on the expensive price tag though
