Dose of Colors Over the Top Desi x Katy Lipgloss Review, Photos, Swatches
Over the Top
Dose of Colors Over the Top Lip Gloss ($15.00 for 0.14 fl. oz.) is a clear gloss with flecks of medium-sized gold sparkle. It’s not designed to be much more than a clear gloss with gold sparkle in it (it’s actually described as “a mega-shine clear gloss infused with reflective gold reflects”). It had noticeable sparkle but wasn’t chocked-full of it either. The texture was smooth, lightweight, and non-tacky on the lips, and the gloss spread easily across my lips. I had a sweet, vanilla-like scent but no discernible taste. The gloss lasted for an hour and a half on me and seemed slightly hydrating.

IDK, for something called Over The Top, I was expecting more
I hear ya, Katherine – it’s more in the middle to me – not ultra-shimmery but not subtle.
I *think* I’m glad that I didn’t get this one? Already have MAC Pleasure Planet and Bite Gold. Bite Gold being way more OTT in being glitter-packed, however. Will admit, the more clear nature of this one has appeal. MAC Goldfinch seems a great happy medium between the two extremes.
Oh, yeah, Bite’s Gold is your best bet for truly over-the-top glitter/shimmer gloss, and then this is more casual – could apply it without a mirror and add shimmer and shine to any product without altering the base color.
I just received mine from the restock, and it feels gritty. Is it supposed to be like that or did they change it from the original launch?
I didn’t buy anything from the restock, so I have no way to compare, sorry!
But does your feel gritty though?
Hi Allison,
If you read the review above, I mentioned the texture was smooth – if it was gritty, I would not have said that 🙂
I don’t love the glitter in this! I wish it was more of a sheen, rather than glitter!
Bummer!
I love shimmery lip gloss, and Dose of Colors is a good cruelty-free brand, but gold just doesn’t work on me.
If the glitter were silver, or colorless, I’d be all over it – I LOVED MAC “Pleasure Principle” years ago.
