MAC Quite Cute: Sakura

MAC Sakura Mineralize Blush ($23.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a new and limited edition shade from MAC’s Quite Cute collection, due in-stores on April 7th. MAC describes this shade as “lavender with pearly magenta heart.” The outer edge is a pinked lavender with a pearled finish, while the heart is a darker pink, not quite magenta, and more of a frost finish. When swirled together, it creates a muted, medium-dark magenta pink with a soft frost finish and cool undertones.

It has the same texture issues as Miss Behave–powdery and sheers out too quickly. It is effortless to blend, but the problem I experienced while applying was it seemed to disappear during the blending process, and I would have to go back and reapply. I think it’s the powderiness of the texture that contributes to this problem, because the color doesn’t stay bound together and thus disappears.

P.S. — No, I wouldn’t normally pair it with those lips, but it was what I had on for swatches – I hope you understand.

I’m new to mineralized blushes, how do these compare to other MAC mineralized blushes? Is the powderiness and sheerness true across the board or just for this collection?

Pamela Avatar

The prob is the lipstick. I think those lip shades only look good in mags, fashion shows and on Halloween. The blush is pretty. But thanks, as always, Christine for reviewing them! xxxooo

This blush is really gorgeous and POPS on deep skin. I’m an NC45/50 in MAC foundations and I applied this wet yesterday and it was AMAZING! These blushes are best applied damp if you want more pigmentation. The lighter ones make great higlight colors as well.

I was hoping this would be as blue-violet as it was in the promo photos. But i still think i’ll pick it up. I was so excited about this release when i saw the promo pics, but in reality, after seeing swatches of so many products, it is now rather hit or miss for me. I am loving some products and shrugging off others i thought i would get. But i remain eager for some Spring Cuteness 🙂

Oh no! I don’t like this blush, christine you always look beautiful on any look, but this blush does not do you any justice. I think I won’t work on me either. This collection is not so much for me I am nc20 nc25, warms tones looks better on me. Thank you for your hinest review Christine.

fabiola Avatar

Sorry i misspell i meant finest, you always do swacthes for us regarless of how it looks on you. I hope i didn’t offend you. I really appreciate your job. Thank you so much.

Some of these comments are on the rude side. Obviously, you’re just showing us what the colors look like. I appreciate your timely and thorough reviews. They’re extremely helpful. Your swatches are always the best.

Lena Avatar

i agree. perhaps it’s also because other blogs do only looks that ‘prettify’, i.e. only looks that they would wear day to day. so people are used to ‘appropriate’ or ‘politically correct’ looks only. christine, on the other hand, is our fearless warrior who goes where no other blogger dares.
and i love you for it, christine!

I agree w/ Carrie Ann. Not every color is going to look good on every skintone. You’re practically a super hero w/ all the work you do for us, plus all the stuff you have to do in your personal/school/work life! I always know when a new collection comes out, from a ton of different brands, that I’m going to be able to see a fabulously done review from you almost immediately! You’re amazing.

I say at least Christine is not photoshopped!! Like almost all of these other bloggers! Christine, thanks for all you do!! 🙂 Your blog is the best one out there with daily updates and always the earliest news available! :)hugs

That reminds me of melliesh blush I own, actually. All I thought with the last photo was ‘Christine, the purple people eater’! lol great review!

Abby Avatar

Hi Christine, since this is a mineralize product do you think using fix+ for application may help it adhere more and get more color since it’s so sheer/powdery? I love the idea of a light lavender blush but don’t want to purchase if there’s little color payoff! :/

KHEN Avatar

I will buy this just because that’s toooo CUTE! Just like the pro longwear concealer, I didn’t like it much but kept it anyways cause its so cute with its tiny pump (:

baby1black Avatar

so christine u think this blush is a no no for nc45 skin tones. Christine I think u should have someone with darker skin tone to also do swatches so that all skin tones would have an idea about how a product looks on them

Christine Avatar

Please understand that I spend anywhere from 30-60 hours per week on the blog, depending on what’s going on with school, and I might swatch at 7AM, 11PM, for one hour or six hours – sometimes a really buzzed about product arrives and I’m swatching it a minute later. It would be extremely unfair to take advantage of any friend and say, “HEY! I need you to be here… five minutes ago.” I’m not in the position where I can hire people and for that I deeply apologize!

Fey Avatar

I know it’s not what you’d choose to pair with the rest of your makeup, but I personally think that’s one of the cutest pictures of you! You look like a gorgeous extra from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or a fey creature.

Pamela S. Avatar

holey moley you are being too kind this will not possibly work on medium+ skin. as you are beautiful and we share the same skin tone i have to say no no no. but def good to have in a makeup artist collection so i might actually buy it. thanks for another great review.

Catherine Avatar

Oooh, I think this blush is really pretty on you! It’d be really nice paired with a cooler nude pink. I’ve been looking for a lavender-leaning blush so I’ll have to check this out. =) Doesn’t hurt that its’ freaking adorable too. 😀

Also, I just wanted to say how much I (and I’m sure plenty of others) really appreciate all of your swatches and on-the-face photos and understand that you don’t want to wash your face 7x a day in order to get through everything. =)

Julie Avatar

I still think this blush is worth a try for the fairer skin tones. It just doesn’t look good on medium yellow skin tones like Christine’s. And if you just cover the “lips” with your hand, the blush doesn’t look that bad. It was too distracting for me!

Chrissye Avatar

I think the blush is worth a try and I love the lips, but of course paired seperately I am MUFE 155 and I think it would work on olive/tan skin, the fact that it sheers out so much would be a plus also…I am actually looking forward to this collection.

avos Avatar

oh gosh, i remember looking at this post yesterday, and your lips were a pale purple! i actually liked the look, it looked cool! maybe it was my imagination. still, freaky.

love the eyes, christine!

Lady Di. Avatar

This blush looks gorgeous on darker skin tone. I saw it on another bloggers reviews and it was beautiful. I think that everything will look different based on what your skin tone is so we shouldn’t immediately scratch this one off our list based on one review. Luckily, Im an NC40 and I think this shade is going to be perfect for me and other darker skinned women. I am hoping that lipstick works for me too because I do think its pretty on you Christine.

Laura Avatar

I honestly don’t think it is bad, the product itself is adorable.. The colors totally would not work for my coloring/undertones though. & Really guys her lip combo is not as bad as people are making it out to be, it’s ok & if you all would read what she said, I mean – c’mon now – hahaha ;-).. Lovin the eye makeup though 🙂

Edelmc Avatar

I am loving this collection. I am nw10-15 and I am going to Defo pick up this blush, candy yum yum and the eye shadow quad. I also love the full face photos/swatches and I like to see the different items of the collection in one look. Thanks for all the info you give out x

I’ve Missed out on Mac’s “Two Virtues” and “hang loose” and azalea blossom,I am looking for a similar lavender purple blush, this looks good, but not exactly squat I’m looking for,can you recommend any more light purplish/ lavender shades of blush,ESP. Matte would be great,I’ve heard about the make up for ever matte blush/ eye shadows and was wondering have you ever tried the purple one 9 I think ? Thank you. Xoxo

This looks amazing in the pan! Too bad it had texture problems.
And I personally think it looks awesome with that make up, including the lips, like you’re straight from Winter Wonderland meets Candyland :L <3
